Fioricet (generic Manufacturer Question) (Top voted first)

Updated

What markings does the Fioricet/Butalbital have on the white tablet and who is the manufacturer? I can not take the blue tablet form as something in it makes me ill. Thank you.

Fioricet contains the active ingredients Acetaminophen, Butalbital and Caffeine, it is most commonly used to treat migraines.

These are several white tablets on the market, since it is available as a generic and I can pinpoint any specifically, since you didn't list your dosage.

I also don't have a list of manufacturers for all of them, however, here are some markings on the white tablets, so you can see if you recognize any:

White, round, 2355 V (Vintage/Qualitest Pharmaceuticals)

White, oval, MIA 110

White, oval, 2357 V (VIntage/Qualitest Pharmaceuticals)

White, oval, 3416 WPI

White, oblong M (in a square) 970 (Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals)

White, round, HD 567

Can you post back with your dosage?

Then I'd be able to help you narrow it down further.

blue tablet 50/325/40mg states on one side of tablet west ward 787 gives me intestinal cramps and diarrhea. What is the difference in medication ingrediants between the white tablet and the blue tablet. Thank you for your search and invested time.

The only difference in the ingredients would be the inactive fillers that are used to help form the tablets, the active ingredients are exactly the same.

However, generics are allowed to differ from the name brand in the amount of the active ingredients by as much as plus or minus 20% and the generics aren't measured against each other.

This means that there could be a slight dosing fluctuation in one or all of the active ingredients in this blue Westward tablet, from the white ones that you were taking. Since your body was used to your getting the amounts in it, it would naturally react to the difference(s).

If you aren't sure which company made the white ones that you used to get, you could try asking at your pharmacy, they should have a record of it in their computer system. Then you can ask if they can order it in for you or see if you can get it from another pharmacy.

It is likely, however, that after a few weeks of use, these effects will wear off, as your body adjusts to whatever the difference is in the amounts of the blue tablet.

Is there anything else I can help with?

I like the oval ones better MIA 110. I too have had problems with the blue ones. I have also found that in my area the oval ones are hard to get whereas the blue and the white round do are not. Don't really understand this. May be that the pharmacy purchasing them get some for less than others.

Just for an update...the original Fioricet ingredients have been changed by the drug company as of the first of the year. They dropped the dosage of acetamenophen from 325 mg to 300mg and now patent refiled and there is no GENERIC! big surprise for me today when I went to pick up my RX that is normally $4.00 and it was $41.00.

Have to be honest, have been on and off Fioricet for many years. Have never seen or heard of a dosage with 60/mg. butab. It's always 50 mg. Of butab. I hope that these pills are prescribed by an MD and that they are not fake. Can be dangerous. Best of luck!

I have taken the 325 mg acetaminophen, had it refilled yesterday, for over 20 years. Yes, it is safe. Do not take more than prescribed because it will make you sick, throwing up, and the acetaminophen if you take more could cause liver toxicity, as does Tylenol you buy at any store. I have my liver function checked every 6 months, though not due to use of Fioricet, and I have never had a problem. Also, the new scheduled substance law does not pertain to every state. Of course, never take anything your physician has not prescribed. Hope this is helpful.

The blue, Westward, work 100x better for me. The white, Mikart, make the headache worse! No digestive issues at all with either one. I wa stold by a pharmacist that Westward produces the butal under very strict QC regulations while the other manufacturers do not use the same strict QC methods.

Mine are white & round by Watson. The number 3369 is on the pill.
BUTATLBITAL = 60 mg
APAP = 325 mg
CAF = 40 mg
Generic for Fiocrocet

I was given them for occasional killer headaches. I have a extremely picky stomach and these do not bother me. I ingest zero caffeine (unless hidden in some food/drink). One small cup of coffee and I get that horrid nervous/jittery feeling. These pills do not affect me that way. Good luck.

Check if you have an allergy to any of the FILLERS and STABILIZERS. My migraines are caused by ingesting wheat. "Other" ingredients in some of these formulas are sometimes derived from wheat. Good luck trying to get a transparent answer from the manufacturers though. You would think a pharmaceutical company that has stringent manufacturing oversight could tell you - but many typically say "we don't know"!!!

Has anyone else gotten the generic fioricet in the form of blue capsules, and if so, have you noticed any difference than the round blue ones by west-ward?

My insurance forces me to get generic furiocet, which DOES NOT work as well as the name. It has happened too many times to be coincidental.

I have been prescribed Fioricet, not Fiorinal, for my many headaches. I believe Fiorinal is a controlled substance but Fioricet is not. I was taking Excedrin until a well-check Endoscopy, Colonoscopy showed an ulcer. My doctor prescribed Fioricet. Is BUTALB-APAP-CAF50-325-40 TAB (generic Fioricet) a controlled substance? My pharmacist says "NO" but the script nurse at the doctor's office says Fioricet is a controlled substance. This nurse gives me and my pharmacy a hassle every month when I get it filled.
