Fentanyl 75mcg Patch Breakthrough Pain Help (Top voted first)
UpdatedI was on oxycodone for 5 yrs, Doctor decides his practice doesn't want to go the oxy 30 route anymore... Gives me 50mcg fentanyl patch 1 every 72 hrs. To be honest I didn't feel anything really, but I didn't feel sick or like s***.. Go to next appointment, and told him the same, didn't feel anything and my chronic back and neck pain is off the charts. He upped the patch to 75mcg.. still don't really feel anything except my pain problems.. tried cutting the 1st 75mcg patch and chewing a small size piece after wearing 1st patch for only 48hrs hoping it would help my pain problems along with a new 75mcg patch!!! Still the same, hurting but not feeling like crap at least... I've been reading on here about breakthrough pain help????? Any ideas?? Thanks

My opinion No matter what the pain level is Never cut and cchew Go to emergency room if that bad Then true pain can be documented If you went to 85 that fast apparently you have a good Dr trust him Don't abuse Just my advice
after what should have been a fatal car accident I was put on a low dose of morphine. accidently overdosed on it not long after. was taken off morphine and the pain pill rollercoaster began! 16 yrs later....I have been on the fentanyl 75mcg/hr for about 12 of those....so one could say I am an expert with these patches, whether they are the flat smaller ones or the big jellylike ones. that being said you should never eat chew or cut patches in half....reason: they are made to release over a 72 period. that means you take a chance of overdosing due to a massive dose all at once. I do feel your pain :) I hated the patches until my body got used to them: it is strong but for reason when you first start it feels like nothing lol. If you have pain still you may need to switch brands: I like the mylan brand. also, your body is most definitely upset about going off the oxy. I don't care if the highers that be say you cannot withdraw if you are still on opiates! you are going through withdrawal from the oxy. another answer could be an underlying health issue your Dr missed. please go back to the dr and tell him/her what you are going through....and give fentanyl a chance....they are great :)
