Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 163)
(Newest replies first)

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

Red,
All of us know exactly what it feels like to be treated like a junkie. It's especially unfair as we've done nothing to deserve it. We aren't in the pharmacy trying to get our prescriptions filled early. We aren't in the doctor's office trying to get additional pain killers. We just want what works for us without a lot of heart ache in the process.
Some of us, don't even know the cause of the pain that we live with. It makes it extremely frustrating for those people.

Lucy and CO Susie,
Your conversation brings a smile to my face. I have an illness along with the pain diagnosis. Thank goodness for the internet, it's the main way I keep in touch with the world - others with illness and pain, extended family and friends. It's very hard to get to a doctor's office let alone gatherings. Susie your friend's ATV accident sounds eerily like Amy Van Dyken's recent accident.

On a less light note, I only have three friends left. All three have some sort of physical disability. I think they're the only friends who actually understand what's going on with me most of the time. They face the same sorts of issues. One friend lives about five miles from me. He is disabled and we are the funniest thing happening. We are always planning lunch and shopping trips, but end up actually doing it, perhaps one of ten planned events. Our plans sound really good in the making LOL.
The second friend I've known for about 22 years and she is partially disabled from breaking both her hips (different times Thank God) but she didn't heal correctly and is on pain medication, she lives in Aurora, so I see her a couple times a year. Talk on the phone almost daily, so that's our great social life together.
The third friend was in an ATV accident in AZ two years ago. She almost lost her leg and she still isn't out of the woods on that. She can't walk without braces and assistance. They are waiting until this last operation heals completely, they are going to do some replacement with cadabber (sp) parts that she lost in the accident. Ligaments tendons and such. We text almost daily, wow such party animals. God was watching over her on this one, because she had just gotten the best job of her life, where they absolutely love her. She works with a company that travels putting in solar farms. Her office is in a construction trailer that wasn't equipped for a handicapped person, but they did all that she needed, so she was able to return to work. Her company also paid for ramps and everything that she needed for her RV that she travels in. Just a wonderful company.
The rest of my friends have just faded away. I think I've disappointed them one too many times. Also, I don't do the activities that I did before, so we don't really have as much in common. They are always glad to see me when they run into me, but they don't make an effort to check in or anything like that.
Honestly, if a person is healthy, they don't have any interest in doctors, medications and all the trials that go into keeping both. At times I've tried to answer their questions when they ask how all that's going, but they don't have any concept of what I'm talking about. They say things like "well , it's hard to believe that a doctor just doesn't give you what you need. It's hard to believe that a pharmacy doesn't carry the medication that you need. Are you on some sort of exotic medication that needs to be special ordered?" No idea. I don't know if they think I'm lying for attention, or if they think my mind has gone along with my body. But their attitude speaks volumes.

Do you have a PCP? Have you had a pain evaluation to determine cause of your pain, if possible? Things are horrible for a lot of legit pain patients who need meds. Google, a phone and a lot of courage to call each and every pain clinic you can find, are necessary to find pain mgmt help at present. Sadly, there are no easy answers. I'd refer you if I knew a clinic accepting patients. I empathize, believe me. Hope you find the help you need. This is nuts!!

We are all good. Wendy, thanks for the offer. I'm so looking forward to this. I especially want to make the meeting before the snow hits. Once it gets bad weather, I know lots of us won't make meetings. Once the weather is ugly, lots of us have trouble making it to our living room LOL

Skeptic... I sort of fall into the "gray" area with my back. I have had mri's which show only minor problems... But, something is wrong. I went from hiking the highest mountain in CO and working out two hours a day, to being in constant pain... Seriously, there is never a time when I have relief. I've been in pain management and had too many injections... A rhizotomy (and scheduled for another one), physical therapy, and yes, pain meds. I've never taken anything stronger than oxycodone... And that didn't stop the pain, either. I think the ONE time my back didn't hurt was when I got a shot of fentynal in an ambulance ride for something else.
All this description to say: I am sick of being looked at like a "drug seeker" because the drs can't find the source of my issue. I went TWO YEARS before someone (a PA) mentioned trying a physiatrist who specializes in muscle/joint issues... And I know the original doctor didn't mention it because he was giving me injections. I remember, at about my third injection, asking the dr what he thought I could do to fix my back... And he said "you could try physical therapy, but you'll end up coming back to me for injections". I busted out crying because I CANNOT imagine living with this for the rest of my life.
Sorry this is such a long post... But that gray-area thing just touched a nerve (ha! No pun intended!) :)

Everyone,
I've been reading this forum since 2012 but didn't start posting until recently. Can't give a lot of info about myself, wish I could. Can say I'm a lo-ong time pain patient. Please know - I don't know the main pain clinics or providers you talk about on this forum, except UCHS. I'm familiar with doctors at UCHS, but not docs at their pain clinic. Pain management in Colorado is a nightmare if you have pain where the cause can't be seen on Xrays or MRIs and intervention or inj's. won't help. Nerve conduction testing doesn't find all pain either. Even if a pain patient has excellent doctor and pharmacist backing, they're finding pain docs and PCPs unwilling to prescribe medications. Know there are terrific PA's but also know of a handful of problem PA's in the area. So many terrific pain management doctors no longer practice in the Denver area. Abusers can find meds but pain patients? Nada

Can someone please help me? I need asap support. I was at Urgent center last night and I was in chronic pain and she said "yeah I can give you a few pills" then she changed her mind. I can't express how mad I am at these people because no matter what they look at you like you are a junkie criminal right from the start. It's like hello they make these drugs for some people and they are not only burn patients.I heard them talking about me in their little hall and I swear its all messed up. Confidentiality is a joke.I felt super embarrassed and it was degrading.I'm describing my symptoms which are 1000% real and shes .like"so which is it" like im changing my story or making it up. I'm 31 years old I'm not a 15 year old kid lady. Im in a twilight zone episode. YES my leg gets numb and I cant feel the thing YES my low back kills YES I CAN'T SLEEP LIKE EVER WITHOUT TOSSING AND TURNING IN BED 50 TIMES A NIGHT. Remember when you could fall asleep and not move but maybe once or twice and wake up feeling great. Some people that are 100% healthy just have no clue what it's like to have REAL problems to worry about. These are the same people that work at urgent center that are talking about what movie they are gonna see cause its Friday. Some of us can't sit in a movie theater without being almost in tears an hour into movie and just cant wait for it to be over cause it hurts. I know there are people out there that are suffering WAY more than me and that's scarry I feel for you.
