My doctor wants me to stop dosage for 2 days and my level is 1.5 is this not dangerous I have history of stroke and a mechanical mitral valve. I have been on this since I was 12 years old and I am 44 now. ## Hello, Teresa! How are you? It is always best to follow your doctor's instructions. It is fairly common to have some skip doses of this medication, or alternate the days they take it to keep their levels where they should be. Did you mention your concerns to your doctor? The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising.

About two months ago I broke three metatarsal in my right foot. I have been using a scooter and non weight bearing since. Early on, day 8 I had what felt like a Charlie horse that wouldn't go away. Went in and found a blood clot in my calf, a DVT. Since then I have been on Coumadin. I first went a few times a week to be checked and now once a week. I eat the same thing and have specifically avoiding drinking and foods high in vitamin K. My current INR is 3.7 and I know that is high. It has been higher previously and want to make sure I am not having internal bleeding or some other side effect. Currently I am experiencing headaches (not the worst in life, but constant), mild dizziness, general lack of energy and past few nights slept foe 10+hours. I don't want to go to the ER if ...

I am an active 41 yr old male who has been on coumadin for 9 years and now believe it lowers my mood and confidence. I originally believed my changes in mood and confidence were associated with my open heart surgery to replace my aortic valve and the life changes and trauma one would expect after such an event at 32 yrs old. But recently i was allowed to come off coumadin for a little over a week to have a back surgery. My INR was normal after 3 days giving me 5 days with my normal blood again. My confidence about the surgery, myself and outlook on life and my business changed enough for me to notice reminding me of how i felt before open heart surgery. Solid is the word i would use. The morning after returning to take coumadin again, a couple days after back surgery, i woke up with a f...

I've kept my coumadin levels very steady because I eat the same thing every day, one half of a bag of prewashed lettuce. Depending on the kind, the bags are normally 7or 9 ounces. The thing is I'm getting tired of it. So without changing my coumadin, how much fresh green beans or canned green beans should I eat? And is there a good place to find these answers? ## Hello, Robert! How are you? What type of lettuce? Not all of it is high in vitamin K, for instance iceberg lettuce is actually very low in it. However, you should also be okay with green beans, because they are also listed as being very low in it. A search for vitamin k levels in foods will turn up several websites that list the information for you, all are free to access. The FDA classifies Coumadin as a blood thinner ...

Getting conflicting info on cranberry juice or AZO tablets and Coumadin. Don't want my 83 yr. old mother to get another UTI. Just got out of hospital from having one. Can't decided if it's ok to give her cranberry juice while taking Warfarin. ## So far, clinical studies have shown no danger in consuming cranberry products, while taking Warfarin, but it's always best to double check with one's doctor to be sure. The FDA classifies Coumadin as a blood thinner and its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Is there anything else I can help with?

Diets and restrictions seem to be all over the place. My feeling on Coumadin, is to keep my vitamin K level on the low side, because I'm not a consistent eater. I cannot rely on a consistent level of higher K. So I'm thinking a lower daily input of K means less change/difference because of a non-consistent diet. So far it's worked, I'm right where I need to be, my IRN(?), is steady. Well, my sister is all over my back, because I won't eat Blueberries or Spinach (I like both but seldom eat either) ... same goes with a few other foods. My doctor, has told me that I can eat all the green beans I want and I related this to my sister that he said green beans were almost a "freebie", no need to control amount. Well, my sister is certain that I'm going to kill m...

Hi, I have had Avascular Necrosis, and Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (stage 4). I have implanted Pain pump that infuses the medication directly into the Spinal Fluid. Over the past several years, I developed extremely "violent" itching. This itching leads to bruising in very large areas. I am also on Coumadin, currently 3mgs a day. I had two bouts with BiPulmonary Embolism(s) back in 1995-1996. I have been prescribed Atarax, Benedryl, and Allegra; all for this itching. I have used virtually OTC cream, spray, and additional Benedryl when I "flare up. This itch is driving me NUTS, and has gone through the same frustration of everything NOT working. I do have a "laundry list" of Meds, as well, other Medical problems that were diagnosed after my knee surgery. I need someo...

Hello, I'm a 24 year old male and I'm one of those whose INR drops when I excercise. I am currently running 3 miles 5 times a week. I'm taking ten MGs of Coumadin every day except for Wednesday, I then take 12 MGs. I've been in range with this dosage. I had read among some other posts, and people seem to think that your INR drops with exercise because since your heart rate revs up with exercise, the Coumadin is then metabolized quicker and not fully absorbed by your body. If that is true, here is my question: I know Coumadin takes about 24 hours for your body to fully absorb it and for it to affect your INR, which is why I try to exercise around 4 PM so the Coumadin that I took the evening before has had nearly 24 hours to work its magic since I take my Coumadin at 5 PM eve

COUMADIN (actually a rat poison!) is a commonly used blood thinner with some bad side effects. NATTOKINESE is a natural blood thinner with hardly ANY side effects. Any problem switching from coumadin to nattokinese? if YES how (gradually, or...) if NOT why not ? Mike ## How do I switch from COUMADIN (taking now 7mg due to an arterial blood clot, chronic arrythmya, and a small coronary artery) to natural NATTOKINESE? Has anyone done it and can I myself do it - SAFELY.My doctors are absolutelly oposing it!! Thank you for help. Mike, Toronto, Canada ## I am having hip surgery next week. The doctor insists on my taking 2.5 mg of Coumadin for 30 days to prevent blood clots. I would prefer a natural blood thinner, i.e. Vitamin K. I have no history of heart or stroke, am in exdcellent health ,...

I am currently taking coumadin for a pe and dvt that the doctors arnt even sure i had in the first place. I stay tired and my head hurts constantly ive been on it for 8 months i want off this poison. Every timr i try to come of this med my doc gets real deffensive and tells me i should get usedto being on it. Now ive had my cloting factors checked and everything looked fine my doc even wrote in my file no problems seem to be present. Evrything looks clear. Recommend extended treatment has any one had these problems ## Hello, Ben! How are you? Well, remember that no matter what's going on and what they prescribe, you are not obligated to take any medication or to continue following that doctor's advice. Which brings me to my next point, if they aren't even sure that you had a...

i'm on coumadin for blood clots and recently had surgery they put me on oxycodone 10 mg.tabs for pain and know switched me to percocet which contains acetaminophen should i be concerned? i guess what i'm asking is which is better to take with warfin? ## John, I take Warfarin and haven't been able to add or subtract anything without doing a series of the INR so that the Warfarin could be adjusted if needed. Is the doctor who prescribed the pain medication, the same doctor who put you on Warfarin? If not, I would call the doctor who is treating the blood clots to see if you need to check (INR) or what. Even Alka Selzer can effect how thin your blood is.

i am TAKING COUMADIN for one time small DVT and have had SEVERE HEADACHES! my doctor only cares about that INR Levels; as pain is not important to him! As an experiment; I stopped the coumadin for one day and ZERO HEADACHE...when i resumed the coumadin....it came right back!!! any one else suffering with this unwanted side effect? ## Hello, Sara! How are you? Headaches can be a side effect of Coumadin. How long have you been taking it? Usually, such side effects will taper off after about 4 to 6 weeks, once your body gets used to the medication. And honestly, if your doctor isn't listening to you, then it might be time to consult a different doctor that's going to pay attention. Are there any other questions or concerns? ## thank u for your input. i actually have been 'clear...

I am an athlete and I was diagnosed with a DVT a year ago, after waiting 5 hours at the emergency with a broken arm. I took coumadin for 3months, 5mg, the same year. Now I still train and I am very active. However, my blood pressure raised quickly and severely in the past months. My doctor doesn't know the cause. I talked with the specialist who gave the prescription of coumadin and he told me that it's possible due to the use of the medication. He told me that some people end up with high blood pressure and some with other complications. THIS MEDICATION IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! TRY TO AVOID IT! IT'S POISON... Opt for other medications. ## Thanks for the heads up on this medication. There seem to be many discussion threads here relating to the issues people were having with i...

The only thing known is that it is a blood thinner used in place of coumadin ## What is exactly Clavex and how does it work? Is it OK for people with stents in heart to use it? ## It is suppossed to be a sexual enhancer for males. Any side effects? ## The name of the medication is actually Plavix, it contains the active ingredient Clopidogrel, it is an antiplatelet agent that's used to help prevent blood clotting. You can learn more Plavix details here. Side effects may include nausea, headache, increased risk of bleeding and neutropenia. I am not sure what medication or supplement Celene28 was asking about, I'm sorry. Are there any questions or comments? Is there anything I can help with?

what ingredients are in coumadin? what ingredients are warfarin? ## @mike, To answer your question, Coumadin actually contains the Active Ingredient: Warfarin. If you're wondering about inactive ingredients (the binders and fillers that make up each tablet), these can vary significantly depending on each manufacturer. However, If you'd like, I can look this information up for you, provided that you have a description of your pill along with the imprint? You can learn more about this drug on the page for Warfarin Details I hope this helps! ## please detail the difference in compositions between coumadin and warfarin i am currently taking warfarin 5 mg tablet 3 days/wk and 2 & 1/2 mg alternate days the remainder of the week previously i had been taking coumadin tablets 5 mg ta...

Can you take Coumadin along with Cream of Tartar and Sulfur tablets? My mother was told there was an old time remedy to purify blood and get rid of ulcers/sores. I actually found a place that sells the tablets and was also told by them they work wonders for people with sores, etc. She has sores on her legs due to improper blood flow and a blood clot for which she is taking Coumadin. She is also going to ask her doctor before doing this holistic treatment but thought I would also ask a professional. Thank you. PS: she is not diabetic. ## I'm not a doctor, or a pharmacist, I will state that up front. As to possible interactions, I think asking her doctor would be best. I can't find anything that will allow me to check the Coumadin with Cream of Tartar. I have a resource that check...

Is it ok to change time of taken Coumadin from am to pm? ## I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with switching the dose from AM to PM. According to rxlist.com, the anticoagulant effect of Coumadin persists beyond 24 hours. So if a patient misses a dose of Coumadin at the intended time of day (AM), the patient should take the dose as soon as possible on the same day. The patient should not double the dose the next day to make up for a missed dose. I hope this info helps to answer your question!

I know there is a drug to replace cumidin , I would like to know more about it and how to get the best price on it? ## Which medication are you referring to? There is a generic for Coumadin, called Warfarin: There is also a different medication available that works by a difference mechanism called Clopidogrel: The prices, however, will vary depending on where you are buying it and how much you are purchasing. Have you consulted a pharmacy? ## pradaxa is a great replacement for cumadin..you dont need blood tests with it..

My INR for over a year is between 2.5 and 3. My nurse insists that I only require it to be tested every 3 months. I have a mitral valve fitted and fibration and worry that this is not often enough. Comments? ## What medication(s) do you take? There are some newer ones that are not as unpredictable and don't cause the severe problems with your INR that the older ones did. For instance, people on Coumadin are usually tested every month.

I just started on Warfarin a few weeks ago, due to a blood clot. First 2 weeks was okay, but now that it has built up in my system, I am having nausea, stomach pains, diarrhea. Everyone is telling me to switch to Coumadin. I am seeing my doctor on Monday. It feels like Gallbladder trouble, but she does not think so. So many people are telling me to get the Coumadin instead. Telling me about fillers in the Warfarin, and it seems like a lot of people could not tolerate the Warfarin. ## Warfarin IS the same as Coumadin. Coumadin is the brand name of warfarin. Please keep a food diary for the next week of EVERYTHING that you eat and bring it with you to the doctor. Were you instructed about food interactions when you were started on the medication? Also be sure to document all medications,I...
