Probably the worst "quitter" out there. Quit for 2 years successfully on Chantix, don't remember any bad mental effects just nasty stomach issues. Tried it again this spring and was good for a couple months, but backslid. Just started upping the dosage and am having major mood swings, anxiety, not really sucidal thoughts, but thinking "it just be easier to be dead" fairly regularly, crying for no reason, feeling uncomfortable around everyone, pretty constant headaches, exhausted, just in general not myself at all. Considering just stopping the Chantix all together, I hate feeling like this. Any experience taking it more than once changing the side effects? ## I've taken Chantix 3 times myself and never really had too many troubling side effects, aside from some g...

It is ok to start taking this at night instead of the day/morning? In other words just take the day 1-3 at night 1st then add morning 4-7? I smoke more at night anyhow- I'm concerned about being drowsy right off the bat. Also my doctor prescribed ambien...is it safe the take these together? Ambien's lit says you have a higher risk of doing activities like sleep-walking(etc) if you take other medications that make you sleepy...? Any help or advice would be great. I called the pharm and he said he didnt see anything come up. ## Have you consulted your doctor about it? Some people do need to take medications like this at night, due to the drowsiness they can cause. And I am not finding any problems listed between taking it with Ambien, either, but I'd still advise checking with...

I have been Smoking for years and I am at about 1 and a half packs a day. I have 3 young children and even though they do not live with me and I do not ever smoke in front of them, they still know I smoke, what kind of role model does that make me? I want to be around a long time and see me kids grow up so that is why, after many attempts to quit on my own, I have decided to try Chantix. So this is Day 1 and I am hoping for the best. I decided that I would use this forum as an aid to help and a log to see how it goes. If anybody has any advice it would be appreciated. I will update my progress in a couple of days. ## Did you have any luck with it? I know it works well for some people and not so for others, which is normal for any cessation method. Smoking is also a very hard habit to ge...

Does anyone know this? Wiki has nothing. ## No, I'm sorry, but this site doesn't have any information on it, either. Sometimes a name brand drug name makes sense and sometimes they don't, I'm not sure exactly how they are decided on. I know there are certain rules, per se, about the chemical names, which are the active medication ingredients, they are based upon the chemicals and effects involved, but that's all I know. Have you tried asking the manufacturer?

Has anyone experienced suicidal ideation and assault while taking Chantix/Champix ## It is known to cause these problems with some people that take it, thought it is very rare. It is an antidepressant, the active ingredient is Varenicline and most of them are known to cause the opposite of their intended effects in a very small number of people that use them. In the U.S. it carries a black box warning about it on the medication sheet. Is there anything else I can help with?

Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing well with the Chantix and are able to quit smoking! I'm a week and a half in and so far, no terrible side effects. The main thing I'm dealing with is extreme fatigue. Is anyone else having this problem? I went to the doctor today because I'm having other issues aside from the fatigue i.e. sores on my legs (I know...gross) had a blood clot last year, and just diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. I am a walking nightmare health wise lol! Anyway, they did some test to determine if the fatigue is from something else. Like I've said, I've been taking Chantix for a week and a half now and I haven't had any crazy mood swings or nightmares. I do have a little bit of nausea after taking it but it goes away pretty quickly. Also, while...

i just started chantix can I take unisom ## Chantix contains the active ingredient Varenicline and Unisom contains the active ingredient Diphenhydramine and I am not finding any interactions listed between the two, but you should check with your doctor, or pharmacist to be certain. It may, however, aggravate some of the side effects, such as dry mouth and drowsiness. Learn more: Is there anything else I can help with?

I have heard good and bad about this medication. I am on my 13d ay of Chantix and other then some weird dreams I'm doing pretty good. I haven't smoke for 4 days now. I did smoke after my first week but it tasted horrible and gave me a upset stomach. If you do smoke after the 7th day you may regret it! I don't take Chantix with any other meds so the side effects have been OK. Not wanting to kill myself or anyone else but it feels good not smoking and being able to breather after 20 years! ## Congratulations! I am very glad to hear that it is working so well for you. Do you have any other tips and tricks that helped you that you can post and share with our users?

After taking Chantix for 10 days, and then stopping, how long will it stay in my system? ## Their official webpage doesn't even give information regarding this: Judging from the amount of doses one has to take, it doesn't seem like it stays in your system very long at all. However, your doctor should be able to give you some clue as to how long it will stay in your system, based on your current health and dietary habits, etc.

I can only manage to take this god-awful pill once a day. Every time I do I've become VERY nauseated, and a few times, I've puked. A couple nights ago I took it right before I went to sleep, since I can sleep through anything. The dreams were ridiculous, but I didn't wake up feeling like I had to throw up. Now, my question is, is it OK to take at night? ## Description of Styptovit-k? ## current Chantix user ## why Dr.prescibed STYPTOVIT - K in pregarncy ??? it is good Or NOt ???

I had smoked for almost 30 yrs and started Chanix two weeks ago. I haven't had the urge to smoke since I started, but my main concern is that I have a lot of chest pain. That will increase if I get winded or take a deep breath. Has anyone one else had this problem? ## Have you spoken to your doctor about this? Chest pain is NOT something you should ever just leave go and blame on a medication. this site is not medical professionals, so we cannot say for certain what may be causing it. It could be the medication or it could be something serious. Please consult your doctor immediately. Chantix contains the active ingredient Varenicline and is used to treat smoking addiction. Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, headache and abnormal dreams. Read more: ## I took chantix...

I hear a lot of people complaining about side effects like nausea, headaches, dizziness, bad taste, vivid dreams and so on. Here is my take on it, yes there is going to be side effects on any drug, what you need to evaluate is, is it worth it? I say yes, I would rather have a headache any day than a hole in my throat speaking out of a voice synthesizer. I would rather be dizzy, than in the hospital getting a triple bipass surgery. I would rather have a bad taste in my mouth then be struggling to breath everyday. And I would rather have vivid dreams than to be dead and not to dream at all. Depression is the only one to watch out for if you experience this, it is not good so stop taking it. Otherwise I say tough out the side effects and live a longer life! ## You bring up some very good p...

Can you take Chantix if you are pregnant? ## It says you should not take it if you are pregnant, because theyare not sure what effect it may have on the baby ## I would suggest consulting with your doctor, they will weigh the pros and cons of your using it while pregnant and let you know what they think you should do. ## I became pregnant in October right after being prescribed Chanix. I never did take it because my doctor said GUARENTEED it will cause birth defects. Of course this is 2010 and the original post was 2008 so I hope you and your baby are well/

I bought the first doses about ten months ago, but didn't start treatment at that time. I finally started the treatment about a week and a half ago. I don't seem to experience as much of the side effects as others. Does anyone know if Chantix looses it's zip after that period of time? I don't think I've been having wild dreams, but I did notice I remember them better for the most part, so they seem more frequent. Dreams are wierd anyway, so I don't necessarily think Chantix has made mine any more strange. I don't seem to suffer from loss of sleep yet, although I don't sleep as much as most people anyway. I can feel that I am on a drug when I'm taking it. I don't eat breakfast, so I take the pill with about 4 to 6 oz. of milk in the morning. I feel...

Is the daytime pill the same as the nightime pill with Champex. My husband has taken the daytime but has the nightime left. Can he use these during the day. ThNKS ## They are the same exact dosage, it is just taken twice daily, once in the morning and once at night, to help try and beat the craving to smoke, after the second week of use. In the U.S. Champix is sold under the brand name Chantix and you can read more on it here: Do you have any other questions?

I used chantix to quit smokong for several months, then slipped up and started again. I would like to use the remaining pills to help me stop again. These are the Blue full strength pills and I was wondering if i can cut them in half to use a the starting dosage? Or can I just start back with the blue pills? ## I suggest asking your doctor or pharmacist, some pills can be safely cut in half and some cannot. ## I was wondering the same thing so I called the pharmacy to find out. They said that you CAN cut the 1mg tablets in half to begin to use Chantix again.

If you are asking questions about blood pressure etc, ask your doctor. I am on week 4 of the pills and haven't smoked for two weeks. Champix (as they are known in the UK) seemto be working. Have smoked for about 15 years, and in those have only managed one or two days without before. Am not into my third week not smoking. Is very strange, you simply don't want a cigarette. But I do suffer from sleep disruption, either several vivid dreams (and waking after each) or not sleeping at all. The nausea doesn't last longer than 20 min, I always take with a pint of room temp water. Will knock you out for the first few days, I am lucky enough to work from home so could take frequent naps. But ask your doctor and if you are feeling depressed or too strange, go back to your doctor and ...

I've been off of it a week. My skin on my face has become really dry, What can I do to help my skin ## this site is not medical professionals, so we can't possibly say whether the dry skin was caused by the medication or something else. Have you tried talking to your doctor about it? Have you tried any creams or lotions to see if they help? I tend to get dry skin whenever the weather turns colder and am using lotions all through the fall and winter. There is nothing like this listed as a side effect, you can read them here:

this is my 2nd week on the chantix,i do mess up once or twice a day with a cigg, but i was smoking a pack a day.Anyway im on Paxil/Buspar for Panic disorder.i have been having weird dreams i feel like im in a funk, and all i wanna do is sleep, and sometimes i do get depressed.is this a problem with the mix of meds? please help ## Well, we aren't medical professionals, but yes, that could be what's causing it, the combination of the medications or any of them individually. They can all causes these types of side effects and taking all 3 at once can make them even worse. Have you talked to your doctor about this? It is a serious issue that should be dealt with.
