I started taking Chantix June 10th and completed the first month. The last week of taking Chantix I was suffering from extreme anxiety. By July 15th I was in the hospital with A-Fib. Never had this before. My blood pressure was always low and so was the heart rate. Not after taking Chantix! I was put on Metropolol but ended up back in the hospital on August 15th due to A-Fib. A cardiac conversion was done to get my heart beat regulated and new prescription ordered. It's now September 14th and I've had A-Fib for the last three days but don't want to go back in the hospital. Yes, I quit smoking. Has it been worth it? Heck NO! I wish I'd never quit...not by taking Chantix anyway. Anyone else with heart problems? I so want to be my old self again. ## Apparently it is still u...

This is my second week taking Chantix, and I'm still smoking! How long is it until I don't have the cravings for a cigarette anymore? And how long does it take for the Chantix to kick in? ## Hi Mj, The guidelines for taking Chantix list the following information (that may help address your question): 1. Choose a Quit Date when you will stop smoking. 2. Start taking CHANTIX one week (7 days) before your Quit Date. This lets CHANTIX build up in your body. You can keep smoking during this time. Make sure that you try and stop smoking on your Quit Date. If you slip up, try again. Some people need a few weeks for CHANTIX to work best. 3. Take CHANTIX after eating and with a full glass (8 ounces) of water. 4. It is recommended to take CHANTIX for a full 12 weeks. If you haven't co...

after taking chantix for the first month a delay in my prescription refill caused me to not have chantix for 3 days. At what dosage should I resume taking it? ## Hi Buck, According to the Chantix site, If you miss a dose you should take it as soon as you remember. That being said, I would just stick with your normal dosage and pick up where you left off. You can view their webpage for more info: chantix.com/how-to-take.aspx I hope this helps!

I just started the Chantix today and am very scared due to my history of depression. Will it come again? I only seem to get "situational depression" due to bad life events. So, does anyone know if there are depression meds that are safe to take along with Chantix? Over the counter would be best. Thanks! ## Dont Do It, Chantix very bad!! took It for five days ruined my life..Another guy In AA asked me about IT ,told him not to take It he started drinking again and blew his brains out ## Some one I know was taking it to get off cigs. It wasen't worth it, she had bad dreams, hair fell out.She was a total wreck. ## Like any other medication, Chantix works well for some people and not so well for others, then there are always those that have bad reactions to it, such as those that...

What is the Normal Duration of The Chantix RX Smoking Cessasion Program? Can anyone tell me? ## Hi Connie, According to a number of various articles I've come across, the standard recommended duration of treatment is 12 weeks. If you're interested, there are also studies out there mentioning the long-term efficacy of this drug. You can view more details on this by following the link below (it's a pdf file): pharmalot.comFwp-content2Fuploads2F20082F062Fchantix-l-term-study.pdf I hope this helps! ## My doctor told me that the recommendation is 3 months, but she has read studies that show the success rate is much greater after 6 months. (something like 80% success) I've been on it for 10 weeks and love it! I have backed off to just 1 pill per day instead of 2 and that seems...

I successfully did a month of Chantix thanks to the overwhelming support of my concerned girlfriend, friends and family. My lovely sweetheart told me she was less concerned about "kissing an ashtray" than just being able to having me around for a long time. This is my second time on Chantix. The first time I quit smoking for 7 months and I resumed after smoking just 1 cigarette, thinking I had it "under control". One month's worth this time: the insomnia was bad, the dreams were vivid, and my stomach hurt. Heightened road rage seems to be my constant companion now, but then I live in an area of concentrated rush hours over bridges and thru tunnels! Nothing can help that! Good luck to all. ## Hi Scott, Thanks a lot for sharing your experience on this medication! It se...

Danielle was 32 years old, born on March 7, 1976. She was my heart & soul. At five years old she tested out at near genius level. Danielle had lapis blue eyes, natural ringlets’ curly auburn hair and a smile that would light up any room. She got married at 18 years old to a wonderful young man. He joined the USMC, while he was gone Dani developed severe mental illnesses, unbeknownst to anyone. We did not know the signs and would never have guessed that she was so ill. They divorced when he got home. Then came alcohol & drugs - she went through several treatment centers, even had 6 ECT's done on her. Since she was an adult under the law, I had no say so with her care. Danielle was diagnosed with PTSD, severe depression, agoraphobia, Board Line Personality Disorder and b...

Just wondering, any1 have any insight??? ## No, that's not usually how it works, by blocking the nicotine receptors, it stops the cravings for nicotine, so most people smoke less and end up quitting. Learn more Chantix details here. Has your doctor provided you with any instructions on how it works? ## Get off before it is too late. I never ever had depression. Now over 2 years later I still suffer and have lost all hope of ever being normal as I had been. I feel such a loss, I know I will neer be the same. ## I had a Really small bump under my tongue, that thing got bigger. Where are the people who have had cardiovascular events and believe Chantix played a part? ## I believe there are a good number of Chantix threads here in the forums, where people have complained about cardiovascular-related side effects. I'd consider browsing through some of the threads here to see who else has reported these types of side effects: /search.asp?q=chantix I would also suggest looking into the threads linked below, for more related conditions: /Discuss/Chantix-and-Atrial-Fibrilation-222488.htm /Discuss/chantix-side-effects-195280.htm I hope this helps! ## There just has to be more of us! I stopped smoking on Day 1, skipping the smoke during the first week cycle. I am just curious if this going to decrease the effectiveness of the medicine? I was actually ok with not smoking the first 4 days but the craving today is a bit strong. Any help would be appreciated ## No, it won't have any harmful effect on the effectiveness of the Chantix. Learn more Chantix details here. It does work extremely well for some people and they end up quitting almost instantly. Has your doctor given you any advice on how to handle the cravings? ## The craving will get much worse before they get better. Be prepared for that mentally and you will succeed. I quit smoking 2 weeks before starting on the chantix. I was having major trouble with withdrawal and my Dr. prescribed me the chantix. I Hav...

Hi I have been smoke free for 4 months. I quit taking chantix 2 weeks ago but started having problems before that when I began to wean off it. I started developing anxiety and a constant sensation of brain freeze like eating something cold and the stabbing headach that goes with it. After quitting the chantix I went 4 days without sleep and a constant migraine and bouts of uncontrollable crying. I went to the doc who put me on lorazepam. That helped somewhat but knowing it was only a temporary fix I asked for something I could take longer for the anxiety attacks. was put on Buspar. that made me so dizzy that I thought I would pass out and increased the anxiety. I am still not sleeping. Does anyone know how long these side effects will last or any suggestions what I can do? ## Has your d...

After taking the first treatment of Chantix last Nov.,2006, I started to feel depressed, develop mood swings, constant irritability, weird dreams, and started to pick fights with my husband that it would turn out to be destructive because I would slap him on the face a lot of times and then hit my head with my fists. I would easily cry for no known reasons. I develop insomnia. I am forgetful of matters now, I had a very retentive memory before taking Chantix. I develop suicide ideation. One day after taking the complete treatment of Chantix, from 11'2006, 12'2006 and 01'2007, around 3rd week of March, 2007, I started to feel something bad in my body, I felt extremely weak and I was running a temperature of 103 degrees. It happened again, for 3 or more consecutive days, I woul...

I quit smoking after 9 days on Chantix. I am 52 and started when I was 16. I started my 9th week packet yesterday. I have had no side affects, I can already breathe better and OMG how good does food taste!! I know Chantix is not for everyone, but I am thankful that it is working for me. 30 years wow, what my lungs must look like. My cravings are minimal and I have noticed that I dont think much about it anymore. I wanted to post to say, please stick with it, what ever it takes......but dont let it take your life. ## Congratulations! That is definitely something to be proud of and it is great that Chantix has worked so well for you. Learn more Chantix details here. Are there any other tips you can post for others that are trying to quit? It is a very, very hard thing to do and, since you...

I'm 60 years old, have smoked since I was 14. Am a 2 pack a day smoker. I sure am hoping Chantix can help me. Anyone else out there who's been a heavy smoker for so long, who has been helped by Chantix? ## I'm 57 and smoked for 40 years. I started Chantix in early February. Smoked for the 1st week. Taste of them become very unpleasant. Haven't had a cigarette for two weeks now. Key for me was to collect up all ashtrays, lighters, lighter fluid and put in trash. Next wash and clean rooms in house with smoke residue. This took a while doing one room at a time. As far as adverse effects the only thing I've noticed is dreams. Normal dreams like a portable B&W TV and Chantix dreams more like HD on wide screen. Very few cravings - mostly in the car as that is programme...

I just began taking Chantex yesterday 2/18/07. I was told to continue to smoke for the 1st week and quit 1 week later. That will mean my quit date is Sunday, 2/25/07. I am a 1 1/2 pack a day smoker and I'm not quite sure this will work for me. When does the urge start to go away? I heard from a friend that if she tries to smoke, she gets very nauseas. I wish this would happen to me so I won't want to smoke but it doesn't. Will it by the 2nd week? I have smoked for almost 30 years, I can't imagine this even working but i've heard so many people having success with it, I thought i have to try it. I don't believe that any others i've known to have success with this drug had smoked as much as myself. Am I suppose to be cutting down this 1st week? How long does it...

I'm taking chantix for 3 weeks now can I take xenadrine Ultra ## Have you checked with your doctor? The Xenadrine products are over the counter dietary supplements that are claimed to aid in weight loss, however, as such, they aren't tested for possible interactions with actual prescription drugs. Thus, I can really only advise that you check with your doctor or pharmacist, before taking it.

I took Chantix for 12 days. On day 9 I was tempted to quit, as the nausea was awful. Finally (accidentally) found that taking the pill with juice instead of water gave me almost no nausea, so kept going a couple days. The reason I quit taking Chantix is because my ovaries started feeling like they were getting ripped out when I was on my period and again when I ovulated. This scared me as to what it was DOING to my ovaries, as we intended to get pregnant after I quit smoking. I'm 35 and have a history of spontaneous miscarriages. Have any of you other gals had this issue? Or is it just me? ## I have had the exact same issue. I had the worst ovary pains and never experienced anything like this prior to Chantix. ## "Nausea occurs commonly in people taking varenicline. Other less c...

Just started on Chantix three days ago....no negative side effects so far. I am a registered nurse and am aware of the positive and negative effects of this drug. That said, this is my last hope as I have never been able to quit before. Family and friends are watching me closely for behavioral abnormalities. My quit date is set for 4 days from now! Really having high hopes for this pill....lol. It has helped many doctors and nurses that work with me. Just be aware of your body, and have a line of communication open with your family and doctor to express your thoughts and feelings. I would love to chat with others who are currently on Chantix, lets hope this works!!! ## It has successfully helped many people and I hope it works for you, as well. Having some trouble staying quit, but am dealing with it! So far , the only symptoms I've had from Chantix are the dreams, and being unfocused, but not so bad. ## There are a lot of individuals who report some horrible side effects from Chantix, but it sounds like your doing great! Have you experienced any bad side effects from this drug? My dad has been smoking for over 40 years, but he decided to cold turkey it just this year and stick it out. He had about a week or so of cold-like symptoms and sleeping it off, but now it has been 7 weeks and he hasn't craved or touched a cig since! And after 40+ years of chronic smoking, that's really saying something. I'm only mentioning this in light of letting others know that going cold turkey on smoking cigs is possible and is al...
