I took Prozac a year ago as I had been misdiagnosed as major depression, when in actuality I have Bipolar 1 disorder. At the time I had checked into a psychiatric clinic because I was having a Manic episode I hadn't slept in 4 weeks, maybe one hour a night if that, racing thoughts, Obsessive thoughts, talking quite fast, I was also feeling suicidal. So he put me on 20mg of Prozac, I took the SSRI for about 6 days. I started to have horrible thoughts of murdering my mother, and my dog, the neighbors, and killing myself, and there was a sense of urgency in it without any logic. I have learned that it is called Homicidal akethsia, I did not act upon these psychotic urges because I knew they were not right, I am a deeply sensitive person and it has affected me greatly. I would like to t...

WHAT IS THE PROPER WAY TO GET OFF mirtazapine 15 mg after taking it for 3 weeks? ## Hi Ben, This is just my opinion, but usually for drugs like this the safest way to stop taking them is to tapper off them, if possible. Some medications can be taken in fractions (actually cut into pieces) and these smaller pieces can be taken in place of the regular dose for a period of several weeks until the body is no longer dependent upon them. In addition to that, I'd also suggest making yourself a tapering schedule on a calendar to track your progress and keep you on the right path to complete your goal within a specific time frame. Without a way to track your progress, tapering can sometimes be much more difficult than it needs to be. I hope this advice helps! ## Thanks. Your idea is what I w...

How to taper off 15mg of mirtazapine.....take 7.5 mg for awhile???? Slept great. I am 71, healthy but have mild grogginess in the morning and sinus like headache which I have read as a possible side effect. I have been taking mirtazapine 8 months feeling pretty well till headaches began in sinuses. I did have baloon dilation sinoplasty in Feb. in Florida because I suffered with sinus headaches in New England where I live last summer. They went away but had procedure as a proactive measure. Felt well 1 month and half after procedure and headaches started after. ENT said procedure went well look at other options for headaches.. Mirtazapine? ## Hello, Pamela! How are you doing? Yes, it can cause headaches in some people as a side effect and if it's continuing for this long, that means ...

Hello, I am taking 30mg daily before going to bed (male, 43 yo). I have started with a very low dosage of 7.5mg and over the course of about 1.5 months I reached the current level. I experienced clear drowsiness (which is a good as I was having trouble sleeping) and dry mouth from the beginning. While the effect of drowsiness right after taking the pill persists, the dry mouth seems to be mostly reduced (80% from the top at the beginning). The reason why I'm writing is a strange back pain that started about 6-7 weeks ago. Here is why I find it strange and why I would like to hear from others if they experienced it like this: 1. I wake up every morning with acute back pain over all my back (bottom to below the neck) 2. Due to the pain I can hardly move in bed when I wake up. Often it...

I have been taking Cymbalta for 6 yrs. along with Wellbutrin (150mg) Could it cause sores in my mouth? Could it cause my hands to shake once in a while? ## Hi Mary, One of the side effects of Cymbalta (Duloxetine) is an "uncontrollable shaking of a part of the body". It can also cause blisters or peeling skin, rashes, hives, swelling in the face, and unfortunately, much more than this. The link below lists the vast majority of possible side effects, but I would highly recommend talking to your doctor about switching medications or opting for a natural alternative to this prescription if the side effects are too persistent or severe: I hope this info helps! ## I have been taking Cymbalta for many years and I see that I have many of the symptoms. What I fear is that the effect th...

As per AIG Hyderabad I have taken Nexito plus for 6 months, after 6 months I stop nearly for one month. But again I have to take this medicine after a gap of one month due to sleeping problem after consultation with local doctor for another 3 months. Now I want to stop taking this medicine but without taking Nexito plus can,t sleep soundly. Whether again I have to take this medicine? How long I can take this medicine? Plz help me ## Nexito Plus is listed as containing Cloazepam, and Escitalopram, it is used to treat various mental health issues, and some cases of insomnia. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, mood changes, and weight changes. Whilst researching treatments for depressive disorder I came across a benzo analogue called Tofisopam. It's not prescribed in the UK or indeed in many countries but it sounds as though it may be a helpful med for certain social anxieties. It also has a mild stimulatory action which would be helpful in combatting lethargy often associated with depression, anxiety and low mood. I gather that it is classed as an Atypical form of benzo because it does not cause sedation or drowsiness but effectively combats feelings of anxiousness. It is also not thought to be habit forming and there is no evidence of tolerance building. It sounds too good to be true. A tablet which performs all the actions you would wish of it without any of the ill effects usually associated with other drugs of simila...

I have been on Cymbalta for 7 yrs. For the last 4 yrs I've been on 120mg per day. I have dealt with many, many side effects, however it helped me so much I put up with them. But the last two years I started having severe heart palpitations and extreme bouts of fatigue. I had many cardiac test and was eventually diagnosed with a heart arythemia. And now last month I was diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency with my cortisol levels dangerously low. My FP doctor referred me to a Endocrinologist, but before I could get there I was hospitalized 4 days with pneumonia. Extreme Adrenal insufficiency causes fluid to build in your lungs. Coincidence? I don't know? Has anyone else on Cymbalta had symptoms of Adrenal fatigue? Has anyone else been on Cymbalta for 7-8 yrs? ## Actually, many me...

There are a number of warnings about the possible side effects of taking Amitriptyline - some people get one or more, others none at all. In my case I suffered a migraine on and off every twenty four hours for very many years. About 15 years ago I was prescribed this drug (10mg daily) to ease the symptoms and frequency and initially it seemed to make little difference but I have not had a migraine now for some six years - whether it is the Amitriptyline or something else no-one can tell me, but I have continued to take them all this time. The effects of taking them long term appear not to be known, but I am, quite naturally, unwilling to stop in case the migraines return. I have also been very fortunate in that I have had no side effects at all ever since I started taking them. I am jus...

I am keeping this brief: I have been taking Effexor for 3 months. I only take 75 mg. I have Major Dep and have tried many different meds for it. I am extremely sensitive to antidepressants and their side effects. So much so that I can't even go above 75mg per day. So here is me of Effexor: it helped right away. It was the best med for Dep I have taken so far. It is powerful and seems to hit the spot with me. I felt calmer, more alert, and all around happier- for about 2 months. Then the side effects started to get bad. When I first started on it, I had one or two Side Efx- excessive thirst, sweating. They were minor and a fair trade off for the effect of the drug. But my the start of the 3rd month, the side effects multiplied- excessive sweating, sleepiness, insomnia, thirst, loss o...

I was on Prozac (fluoxetine) for about 8-9 years starting when I was about 14 years old. I'm 23 now and for about the last two-three years I started getting weird side effects and feelings that I never had before. I would feel spaced out, disoriented, out of body, dizzy, angry, light/visual disturbances and really wishhy washy, like bi polar feelings and suicidal feelings. I had never had these ever before. I was on the Prozac for severe anxiety and panic attacks. I never had depression or bi polar feeling ever in my life. And I always would get dizzy spells and just feel SOOO spaced out and out of body literally so freaking weird. So when these symptoms started happening I went to numerous docs and they all found nothing wrong physically. Blood tests, check up all normal. So I deci...

I was diagnosed with meningioma 5yrs ago and became epileptic thereafter. I was prescribed Tegretol 400mg twice a day for depression & I'm taking Brintellix 20mg + Cilift (citalopram) 20mg that I've just been prescribed along with Lamictin (lamotrigine) 25mg. Does this mean I have bipolar disorder? ## Has a doctor diagnosed you as having bipolar disorder? Taking a medication that is most commonly prescribed for a specific condition doesn't necessarily mean that you have that condition, it might be that the medication is known to help with issues/symptoms that you're experiencing. Many mental health medications help with a wide variety of mental health issues, and some of the anti-epileptic medications are known to help with nerve pain. What did your doctor say was th...

Has anyone has success with hemp oil for anxiety? I take lexapro, 2 mg klonipin daily, buspar 60 mg daily, and 900 mg gabapentin daily. I recently went 37 days with no anxiety. But now I've had it 7 days in a row. Idk what causes it I've been fighting it for a year now. I'm wondering if anyone's had any luck with hemp oil. I don't live in a state where marijuana is legal or I'd be tempted to try it. I feel like I'm missing out on my life. ## I had no luck with hemp oil, but we are all different, and some people swear by it. The only way to know if it will help you is by trying it. As we delve into the world of alternative medicine, a fascinating marvel is the resurgence of natural psychedelics, particularly Psilocybin mushrooms, often known as "magic mushrooms." They have shown promising benefits for mental health, treatment-resistant depression, and reducing drug abuse, especially among our aging population. Magic mushrooms earn their title not just from their hallucinogenic effect, but also from the profound impact they can have on overall health and wellbeing. Recent studies indicate that they often work better than traditional Western Medicine treatments, resulting in sustained, long-lasting benefits. Researchers believe psilocybin works by 'resetting' the brain's key emotion-linked structures, helping patients see beyond their problems and c

Hey guys. I have had health anxiety since I was about 13. Around Christmas time last year I was extremely worried about having ALS. I was so worried that I pretty much lived inside and lived In fear everyday. I have started to do school from home (which is a pain, considering I'm attempting to get into undergraduate medicine). So I went to my GP and prescribed me 5mg of lexapro then 10 after a week. I have an extreme tolerance to any tablets, panadene forte, Valium and medicines like that are barely noticeable to me. So it wasn't a surprise when the lexapro did absolutely nothing so I went back to my GP and she said because I am adult athletic size (6 ft, 70kg) that I can go straight to 20mg. After taking 20mg for a few weeks I noticed a small difference but nothing worth even s...
