Adderall Manufactured By Teva Not Working (Page 22)

Updated

I have had two refills of Adderall 20 mg that was manufactured by Teva/barr (Teva) and it seems to have much less medication in each pill. Refills by another manufacturer work. This is ridiculous, and where do we report Teva and who can check each pill for amount for medication? I would gladly donate some of my worthless ones to the FDA?

Re: Jon (# 420) Expand Referenced Message

I went to my Doc yesterday and basically threw my arms up on these unpredictable Adderall IR's. We decided to try the 30 XR Sandoz again. So I left office to fill it and the pharmacist at CVS told me it would be a $282 copay for the 30mg XR...WTF? Then as the pharmacist was reading the computer monitor, told me my insurance - Express Scripts- Just made a change to allow for Adderall XR Brand by Shire and the copay is $20 bucks! As I picked it up, my jaw from the floor told him "Yes, go with Brand!" So, after 2 days on these, I sort of remember why I went back to the IR's: First of all, these Adderall XR by Shire are POTENT! I've had 2 days of solid work- almost to the point of hyperfocusing- so all caught up after 12 day "vacation." Major loss of appetite (I could eat a horse on Aurobindo and Core!) so must ensure you're eating right and taking Magnesium and Zinc supplements for the dehydration. I still do not like messing with capsules for dosage adjustments but these Brand XR are the REAL THING! (BTW, I checked my Express Scripts account today and they paid $492 and I paid the $20 bucks copay).

Re: Jon (# 417) Expand Referenced Message

This is ironic, because the same situation is happening with my son. He's only 7 the medication should and has always been enough. But, it's not. I have even accused him of spitting his medicine out. Now I make sure he has taken it and still not near the effects as it was when using the other brand. I mean if for a 7 year old the 20mg strength isn't enough there's a problem.

Congratulations on your success...and sharing it with the rest of us. Wow...please clarify...is the information below accurate?

You are taking one 30mg XR capsule per day....and that's it? And you're saying that a single capsule 30mg dose gets you from 8:00am..ish to 5:00-6:00pm..ish? No late in the afternoon 20mg IR boost...?

I messed up bad one day and took a monster dose 300mg in two doses. now the pills don't work at all if fact they have the paradoxical effect exhasserbating (yeah i spelled that completely wrong lol) all of my worst add symptoms, including a very strange and distant feeling.. i actually feel way better when the drug is out of my system. No matter how much i take the feeling remains. Please help me. how do i fix this? or did i really screw up and now they will never work again?

"Please help me. how do i fix this? or did i really screw up and now they will never work again?"

I read somewhere that when a person does this they need to stop to let the brain replenish its dopamine. In other words, more or less, you built up a tolerance very quickly. Probably best to stop for a week or so. And speak to a doctor and go to an urgent care if you need to. People here are not doctors.

Re: Hamster (# 421) Expand Referenced Message

Hamster,

When you say the Shire XR are potent...

What exactly do you mean?

Do they have a kick in the pants of motivation to help you get up and get stuff done?

Or are they just making you hyper focus with no personality like a working drone?

Please clarify.
Thank you,
RQJ

Re: RQJmaverick (# 427) Expand Referenced Message

In hindsight I should of probably not used "Potent" to describe the Adderall XR Brand (by Shire )but after last month's script with Aurobindo, it was a huge positive change and that word first came to mind. So, heres my preliminary evaluation (only 4 days do far):
1. They do increase motivation. I've had a very productive weekend working on some career things I've been putting off!
2. Yes, very focused but you must ensure you "manage" what your focusing on ! I could start reading a book and 4 hours blow by...your wife starts complaining, etc, etc. Take stock in time management.
3. Mood? Markedly better and more positive on future! Will this last through the month? Probably not but for now all is well.
4. Anxiety. Significantly reduced! I have a script for Xanax and have not even consider popping a few. That's a big plus for me!
5. Appetite. Reduced but not "non existent " like those cheap Tech's.
Bottom line is you to be vigilant in managing your intake of these guys. Don't be tempted to over medicate. Use the drug for what it was designed to do! (maybe easier Saudi than done). Eat right, take a good multivitamin, sleep on a schedule and TRY not to over analyse the med and what may or may not come...good luck!

Re: Hamster (# 428) Expand Referenced Message

OK, that does sound good so far..

In essence, are you finding that the Shire XR brand name finally has the therapeutic consistent dose of adderall like it should? Especially when compared to all the generic forms of adderall which appear to be either weak, hit and miss, or just downright placebo?

Please keep us posted throughout the month on your progress.

I purchased Prasco XR which as you know is an authorized generic by Shire, however I and two of my friends (who are ADHD patients) felt as if Shire put nothing in them or altered the medication ratios. I still have 48 of the 30mg capsules leftover from July which I refuse to take. Even my friends refuse to try it again. I can't give it away. My own mother who I inherited this ADD from won't take it. She switched back to Ritalin because of the adderall issues.

Frankly, the following have all failed to yield any therapeutic benefit for me, two of my friends, and my mother: Corepharma, Aurobindo, Mallinckrodt, and Prasco.

Teva so far has had the most benefit but it is still just a little better than nothing.

I have yet to try this year: Sandoz IR or XR, Sun Pharma IR, Mylan IR, Shire XR, or Impax XR. I think that rounds out all forms of available brand and generic adderall...

Regardless, I hope this brand fixes the problem for you.

I am still on a quest to find something and may just bite the bullet and pay out of pocket for Shire XR to see if it will work. It goes for $459 for sixty 30mg XR capsules here in Arizona. An expensive gamble but one that might be necessary to make...

Re: RQJmaverick (# 429) Expand Referenced Message

and others taking Adderall XR or its generics --

I just want to confirm that you understand the difference between Adderall and Adderall XR, particularly as it applies to dosing. I've read comments from various people here that the XR doesn't work, but the commenters are not providing dosing and other information to be sure that they are taking the medication properly with the proper dosage.

This is important to me, because I don't live in the US, and where I live it's impossible to get any medication containing amphetamine. On my last trip to the US, I got the Teva generic of Adderall IR, and it doesn't work (it doesn't help with motivation, focus, decision-making). When I lived in the US, I used to take the Shire brand Adderall and Adderall XR (not together!), and they worked for all of those problems. The next time I'm in the US, I plan to switch to generic XR, so I'm looking for as much information as I can find on its effectiveness.

------------------------

The difference between Adderall IR and Adderall XR is that with Adderall IR, all the medication is released immediately; with Adderall XR, half of the medication is released immediately, and the other half is released four hours later.

So, if your effective dose of Adderall IR was 30mg, for example, you would need to take 60mg of Adderall XR to be taking the equivalent dose.

----------------------------

What I'd particularly like to know for those who are taking generics of Adderall XR and their generics are:

What dose of Adderall XR are you taking (times of day and amounts)?
If you took Adderal IR (or generic IR), what dose did you take?
Did you take the full capsule(s), without changing them (crushing, dissolving)?

---------------------------

I'm asking because there are many here who say that they solved their problem with generic IR by switching to generic XR, yet there are some that are saying that the XR is not working. I'm trying to figure out if there's really a problem with some of the generic XR, or if it is a problem of dosing or something else.

Thank you

Re: RQJmaverick (# 429) Expand Referenced Message

Hi,

Adderall XR, Sandoz XR and Prasco XR are all exactly the same!!!

I just spent an hour going through the NDC section of the FDA site. The original NDC for the brand Adderall XR is NDA021303. Guess what Sandoz and Prasco use as their "Application Number or Monograph Citation"? Yep, exactly the same for both: NDA021303!

So, your Prasco XR and my Sandoz XR are only different by the label and markings on the capsule ("Adderall XR" for Shire and "M; Amphet Salts; 30 mg"). Consequently, my post about getting lucky with Express Scripts and "brand" Adderall XR is a total cock and bull story....why Express Scripts would pay $492 for the "Shire" 60 and charge me a $20 copay and tell me if I wanted the Sandoz XR my copay would be $282! Now, there's some serious s*** going on here (with Shire and Express Scripts) but I believe I know Shire's past and current strategy: Past- They lost the patent on Adderall XR and moved all attention to Vyvanse.

With Vyvanse, they could sell you Vyvanse could not be abused as the drug (Levo portion) has to go through your digestive system. No sorting, etc. This drug would be the interim "brand" product (and big bucks) until they came out with their new "Adderall XR" called "Mydayis." These guys are supposed to last 16 hours! The drug will be released at a hefty price in October 2017.

So, let's recap. Shire could care less about the original Adderall XR as it lost the patent. Consequently, they farmed it out to Sandoz and Prasco as an AG. Current pricing makes no sense but clearly there is a strategy involved with the variations! We have given varying efficacy reports on all 3 "brands" yet they are exactly the same! Shire now comes out with the upgraded, newly patented Mydayis extended Adderall....hmm.

I guess my question is why you do not like the "Prasco?" Did this occur immediately or later in the month? I have NEVER had the same effect from Adderall -in any brand, generic, IR or XR have same -late in my month's script. They all lose steam due to tolerance...

Anyway, DO NOT buy the Adderall XR for that god awful price (and yes, they are starting to lose their luster after 5 days) as you will be getting the exact same thing you have been taking!

Has anyone asked their provider to prescribe a booster for those who are taking IR. For example, if an individual is taking 30mg IR, Will it be appropriate to ask the doctor for a booster, maybe 20 mg of the XR

My situation is that I have taken the same dosage for eight years, and obviously, it is now not working as it used to… Thank you for any responses

"I would really like to try Sandoz."

That would be nice but unfortunately Sandoz aka Eon Labs no longer makes generic Adderall anymore. It was great while it lasted.

Re: Wine (# 432) Expand Referenced Message

A late PM 20mg or less IR booster of Adderall is a very reasonable request to ask of your doctor...especially if you take an Adderall XR or Vyvanse during the day. My doc wrote me a script for 20mg IR as an afternoon booster without any persuading on my part. I don't take it every day...and sometimes I break it in half and take 10mg. Ask your doc about the medication Evekeo. The max strength it comes in is 10mg and it has worked nicely over the months as a late PM boost for me. I've also used generic Adderall 20mg IR as a PM boost with much success.
Caution though...if you are one of those that Adderall makes sleeping difficult...trial and error will let you know how late in the PM you can take it and still be able to sleep that night.

Re: Joe (# 433) Expand Referenced Message

Thanks Joe, I appreciate your reply. That is unfortunate. Apparently I have very few options right now. Walgreens only has Teva 20mg IR and all the CVS's are still out of whatever they may or may not get (last time it was Aurobindo) because of the hurricane down here. So I've resorted to having to take 1/2 tab or more of the Teva to get the same result. I'll run out before my next Dr. visit but I'm hopeful they will sympathize and give me another script.

Re: Joe (# 433) Expand Referenced Message

I just got a prescription of Sandoz Adderall IR 30mg. I recently noticed a change in effectiveness the last two months. Prior to the last two months, it was EON labs now only says Sandoz. Any reason why this would be the case? I thought EON Labs was the same entity as Sandoz.

Re: Marilyn (# 437) Expand Referenced Message

Willshire dexadrine? How expensive? I am a newby to Adderall and started off with 10 mg Aurobindo 3 months ago and then to Aurobindo 20 mg and they seem to work ok but CVS ran out so I went to Walgreens and all they had were Teva 20 mg IR and didn't work as well and found out they put saccharin in them. After almost 2 weeks of calling the pharmacy and insurance and doctor was able to take the Teva back to my Dr. and got another prescription and got the Aurobindo brand again. Wondering if the dexadrine works if my dr. will prescribe that instead.

Hi. I can't find the person's name that I wanted to post this question for. The name was Tomlinson I think. I was needing the website or email address where I could email Teva/Barr about how bad the new formula or ingredients are in this new formula!! I take Adderall for Fatigue as I have CFS. They used to work so well in my daily struggle with Fatigue. I also have an Autoimmune Disease of my Liver which causes Chronic Fatigue & Adderall is the ONLY thing I've found that really helps with the severe Fatigue I struggle with on a daily basis. I don't want my Dr to have to increase my dosage so I wanted to report to them or whoever I need to, to let them know it's like taking Nothing at all with the Teva brand! Thanks for any help y'all could give me!

Hi Marilyn! Did u say you found out Teva was putting Saccaharin in their formula now? So you called & that's what they told you? I definitely do not want to take their brand if that is the case! Do you know where I could send a complaint to? Thanks Marilyn!
