4 Weeks Off And Feel Profound Sadness/fear

I am a 52 year old female that has been on these type of meds for 25+ years. I feel eventually, they become less effective and after my Dr added Buspar to the mix- to relieve anxiety I was feeling while just on Lexapro, I decided to stop all medications like this and see how I do/am. Buspar made me flat/blah, not good. I now have been dealing with sadness and fear that I can't explain. Wondering if it's partially hormones or actually 'me' with out drugs. I go to the Dr again today and I'm sure she will suggest another medication. I don't mind suffering through if eventually I can adjust my life/stress level, etc. to be w/out these type of medications. Anyone have any thoughts/comments/suggestions? I'd appreciate it.

You need to switch to a different medicine. It seems like you have become immune to the drug lexapro,and you have been on it quite some time. Maybe you should talk to your doctor about Zoloft or Prozac for your depression. Maybe at first without the buspar .

These types of effects are normal, if you stop these medications cold turkey. It can result in your experiencing both withdrawal and rebound effects. It may take a month or more, before things settle out and you see how you do without any medications in your system.

What has your doctor advised?

Thank you for responding.. I did a lot of research on withdrawals, etc. so was prepared for this- but mostly wondering if the symptoms lessen, if you can 'work' through them- ie. life is still stressful but hoping to learn ways to better deal with it then just a pill. My doctor basically asked if I was happy- said obviously in the 'moment' no, but can deal with that if this will eventually go away, be better, etc. Left w/an RX for Zoloft- and of course, she likened it to being a diabetic-- if I was, would I take meds to help.. yes, of course. What's hard w/these type of meds, is you cannot 'measure' your serotonin level to confirm yup- that's what you got.. it's all speculation. Wondering about natural supplements I've heard about for years- St. John's Wort, Valerian, etc. which I couldn't even consider before w/being on the ssri's....
