With Afib What Is The Risk Of A Stroke

I have been on 20 mgs of xarelto for newly diagnosed afib once a day for one month. I didn't think about my refill and have run out of my medicine. My mom's 88 yrs. She has a pacemaker, AFIB, CHF, History of TIA's, and both her siblings had strokes. She has to have a bronchoscopy so they want her blood thicker. She's been on coumadin since 2009. Her cardiologist called her 'low-risk', and told her to stop coumadin 5 days prior to procedure, but my sister and I think lovenox is more appropriate? I don't get how they can say she's low stoke risk. Stroke is our biggest fear. ## Have you discussed your concerns with her and her doctor? His opinion of her being at low-risk is based on her current health and medical history, but by all means if you disagree you should say so. It may also be safer for her to taper for awhile before the procedure, rather than just stop abruptly.
