I started sprintec on the first day of my period.ever since then,I have stop and go bleeding.today has been the heaviest since my period.is this a side effect for sprintec? ## Hello, Evelynn! How are you? I'm sorry about that, I know it's very annoying. Yes, that can be a side effect of oral contraceptives and it may take about 3 months for things to settle back down and normalize, because your body is getting used to the added hormones. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain and PMS-like symptoms. If it continues too long, or gets very heavy, then you should consult your prescriber, as this may not be the right one for you to take. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been on Sprintec 28 for 3 years now. I tried to skip my period by going straight into a new pack but my period started anyway and now I'm going into day 16 of my period. How can I get it to stop? ## I experienced that, as well, when I was younger and taking an oral contraceptive, unfortunately, it's just going to take time. Generally, I found that I would bleed or spot, until after my next period week, then usually things would finally settle down and return to normal. If it doesn't stop by then, you should consult your doctor. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability and PMS-like symptoms. I came on my period twice this month I started at the beginning of the month and I'm back on again at the end of the month while on my blue pills for sprintec, if I stop taking the pill and just wait until I get the next pack, will my period stop? ## Hello, Sabrina! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. Irregular breakthrough bleeding is normal for the first 3 months, or so, while your body is getting used to this medication and no, stopping them likely won't help, because the last week of the pack are actually placebo pills with no active ingredients that normally induce your period. The FDA lists the other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, headache, weight gain, irritability and PMS-like symptoms. If the bleeding is very annoying...

Hey I've started taking BC for the first time ever on Aug 4th the week of my period and two weeks later my period stayed off than when i started my whites pills it started again and never went off and i am on the third pack and i really want my period to be off by now, but its still on what do i have to do to stop my period or how long should i wait. ## Hello, Tbabes! How are you? That has to be very annoying. Usually, it can take about 3 months for such side effects to stop, but since you're still experiencing the bleeding into your third pack, that means that just might not be the right one for you to take. Have you contacted your doctor, yet? They should be able to prescribe an alternative contraceptive that you can try.

I stopped taking Sprintec in July/August because I no longer wished to be on it. I had my period in September, but have since not seen it. I did have irregular periods before I was ever on BC and missed periods from stress. I was stressed out lately but it has since calmed down, and now im not sure if my period would come... its probably been almost 30 days late, and pregnancy results have been neg and ovulation tests low. Im thinking of going to the dr soon to get checked out, but just want to know if I should wait it out or if now would be best. Btw, ive been overly tired lately, and went from eating a bunch to not having an appetite at all... ## It's best to have things checked out, but most likely there is nothing to worry about and it's just from stopping the OCs. Your body...

I started tri sprintec back in May. At the beginning of July I stopped taking them for two months and then started again a few weeks ago. I remembered my doctor saying to start the Sunday after your next period. So after my next period, which ended on a Sunday. I started. A few days later I started a second period. This one heavier than normal. And it has been going on for five days now. I'm wondering if this is just because I started and stopped? Or should I be worried. ## Hello, Hope! How are you? They should actually be started the first day of your period, regardless of what day that is, but regardless… Irregular bleeding can be normal, because your body hasn't really had a chance to adjust to the hormones, yet. Especially since you took them for a couple months, then ...

Is there any way of stopping or slowing down period with Sprintec? Get annoyed Friday will make 15 days of bleeding & no signs of slowing down :( been to Dr but hate to keep taking different pills, thought about getting the IUD but not sure? Thanks! ## Yes, according to the FDA usage listings, oral contraceptives may help with such a problem, though it could take anywhere from one to 3 months. However, they contain hormones, so for many women, they can help balance them back out for you to eliminate such a problem. Typical side effects are listed as including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability and PMS like symptoms. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I was put on sprintec 28 6weeks postpartum because I started bleeding non stop with big clots with it. They put me on sp...

Hi, I was on sprintec for nearly 4 years and everything was fine when I was on it. But do to health problems with my gallbladder I had to quit taking it. It's been nearly 4 months and I still haven't had a normal period. I think I had one that lasted 3 days and then another one about a week ago that only lasted one day. Is this normal since I was on it for so long? ## Hello, Lauren! How are you? Yes, it can take several months for your body to balance your hormones back out on its own. It was used to relying on the oral contraceptives to control them. However, as long as your last pap smear was normal and your doctor sees no reason to be concerned, then it's nothing to worry about. According to the FDA, you may experience other withdrawal effects, such as irritability, PMS-l...

I started taking Sprinted on the first day of my period, Friday 10/2. My period ended Saturday, 10/10 which is normal. I started feeling breast tenderness since the 9th which is unusual for the end of my period. Today is the 11th and period is back as if it were starting again like normal! The mild annoying pain in my abdomen too and it's not light which means I'm not spotting. I get married in 7 days and am concerned I'll have my period during the wedding. Should I keep taking the pill? ## Hello, Temy! How are you? Congratulations!! It can be normal to have irregular bleeding for the first 3 months or so, while your body is getting used to the hormonal changes caused by this oral contraceptive. However, stopping it now would pretty much guarantee that you'd be bleeding ...

I have been taking sprintec for three years, and mono linyah for one month and then quit it all. Now my period is late for three weeks. According to the home pregnancy test I am not pregnant. Is that a side effect of taking birth control for a long time for the period to be late? ## To my understanding, Sprintec (and most oral contraceptives for that matter) can cause irregular and/or missed periods as a general side effect; due to fluctuations in your hormone levels. So I don't think it's anything to be overly concerned about. Especially if you recently stopped taking it in an abrupt manner after 3 years. It may just take some time before your hormones begin to level out. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Sprintec Details I hope this info helps!

I've started Sprintec in August and stopped taking it the beginning of January because I never got my refill. So i have been off of it for about 1 month and I haven't gotten my period. I started Sprintec to regulate my period. Can I start back anytime? And if I do start any time, will I get my period? ## Hello, Taylor! How are you? You can start back any time, as long as your doctor approves. If you aren't on your period, it will take 7 days of taking it, before it will protect against pregnancy. You should get your period, when you take the last pills in the packet. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, breakthrough bleeding, headache and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

I been on my period for the past couple months my OB prescribed this to regulate my cycle and stop bleeding. How fast should I see results?? Should I take 3 pills at once to stop the bleeding. I need to stop the bleeding ASAP ## Hello, Boo29! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. Did you doctor instruct you take 3 at once? There are no guarantees that doing that will stop the bleeding, it could actually prolong it, or make it heavier. The best thing to do would be to take it as prescribed and let it rebalance your hormones, so it stops, but that may take a week or two. The FDA lists the typical side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, mood swings and PMS-like symptoms. Is there anything else I can...

I've been on tri sprintec for about a year now. Im on my LAST white pill today (saturday) bUT still have not had my period this week and I usually start on Wednesdays. Is that normal and should I still start my new pack tomorrow even though I haven't started my period? ## Hello, Angee! How are you? Yes, you should still start the new pack on schedule, unless you missed any pills, so there's a risk of pregnancy, or your doctor advises otherwise. Some women do skip periods, start late or stop having them entirely, while on oral contraceptives. The FDA lists other possible side effects as including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability and PMS-like symptoms. Is there anything else I can help with?

I stopped taking my birth control sprintec after a week due to health issues but it has been three weeks since the last pill and still no period. I am four days late from my regular period and I was wondering when it should start. I did take a pregnancy test 2 days before my period should have started and it was negative. ## Hello, Stacey! How are you? Even though you only took it for a week, you likely threw off your natural hormonal balance, so it will probably take awhile, before things balance back out and return to normal. Other effects of stopping it may also include headache, weight changes, mood swings and irregular periods, as listed by the FDA. If there is no change, after a few more weeks, you should consult your doctor to be sure. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Y...

Can i take norethinderone and sprintec to delay my period. I have taken norethinderone alone to delay my period . But I have recently been prescribed sprintec as a BC. I haven't started it yet and am on my period now - 3rd day. I am traveling next month and do not want to have my period when I'm away. Is there any reason I shouldn't take both meds or would it be to much. I'm just afraid continuing the blue sprintec pills, wont be enough to stop the cycle . Any suggestions? Thank you. ## Have you consulted your doctor to see what would be best, and safest for you? Usually, women can just skip their period by continuing the active tablets, rather than taking the inactive ones for that week, however, this may not work for you, since you are new to taking the birth control, ...

I started Sprintec a week and a half ago, first time ever on birth control, on the Sunday of my period, for the purpose of skipping my period two cycles from now. I noticed nausea almost immediately and pretty much everyday. I'm okay with that because I've been eating less. I started spotting three days ago, very light, but still need to wear a panty liner. I know it says that spotting is normal, but I just don't want it to last for weeks, all to skip my period for 5 days in two months. Could this be my period? Or how long does this last? Also, I was taking vitamins, which I will now stop taking, as I read that increases side effects. I just want to see if this will be worth skipping a period in two months, and it will actually skip. Thank you! ## Hello, Rita! How are you? A...

Hello, I started taking sprintec 3 weeks ago and have been spotting every day since. One of those weeks was like a period. When will it stop?!?! Kind of defeats the purpose of taking it =/ ## Hello, Gwen! How are you? It can be normal to experience these irregularities for up to the first 3 months of taking it, since it is a hormonal contraceptive that your body needs to gets used to. However, you should check with your doctor to be sure. Are there any other questions or concerns?

I started sprintec a week ago, I've never taken bc before. I took the first blue pill in the pack before I got my period, my doc said to take the Sunday after my period but I didn't wait, I started taking it when I bought them, now im late and I just had a single spot of blood in my undies. Is this normal for a person to miss a period and when do I take the white pills? Do I have to stop the blue ones and take the white ones inorder to have a period? ## I will explain a few things, so hopefully this will clear up your questions for you. The reason your doctor tells you to start them the first day of your period is so that you will be immediately protected against pregnancy. If you start at any other time, you must take the pills daily, for at least 7 days, to be protected. Howev...

I've been on Sprintec for 3 months, but I stopped taking them due to hair loss! Anyways, June was my last month on them. It's July & I haven't gotten my period. I'm irregular by the way. Does Sprintec mess up periods after not taking them anymore? ## Hello, Kristy! How are you? Usually, when you take an OC for a few months, your body stops producing the relevant hormones on its own and, once you stop taking it, it can take 3 months or so, for things to return to normal and your body to start producing them, again. So yes, this can happen and is usually nothing to worry about. However, if it continues after a couple months, you should consult your doctor. Is there anything else I can help with?

Hi, I am concerned. I had a baby 2. & 1/2 months ago and was cleared by my OBGYN to begin birth control. I asked to be placed on Ortho Lo but apparently Sprintec is the new generic available. Anyways, I've been on it 3weeks now and began my period last week (2weeks early) the bleeding on this pill is excessive. On top of that I have been having huge clots (last night 5 and 1 this morning). I am concerned. Is this normal?? Regardless, I didn't take my pill last night. I am planning on stopping these pills because the bloating and stomach cramps are too much for me. I am very concerned about the bleeding though..is this normal or should I be getting ready to go to the ER? ## That can occur, when you're new to taking an oral contraceptive, as reported by the FDA.
