Clopidogrel, sold under the brand name Plavix among others,[2] is an antiplatelet medication used to reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke in those at high risk.[5] It is also used together with aspirin in heart attacks and following the placement of a coronary artery stent (dual antiplatelet therapy).[5] It is taken by mouth.[5] Its effect starts about two hours after intake and lasts for five days.[5] Comm...

Can Plavix cause erectile dysfunction or reduce the efficacy of Viagara? ## What are all the side effects of plavix or clavix? Could any E.D. problem occur due to this? ## Yes, any medication like this can cause erectile dysfunction. Ultimately, you need increased blood flow, these medications thin the blood, so thus, you do not get the needed blood flow. As to Viagra, please remember it is not a miracle drug, it can help, but will not make you instantly erect and turned on, you will still need the normal stimulation!

I am 62 and have no history of hypertension, yet there was a sudden spike in my blood pressure reaching 160/100, so my Dr. prescribed several medicines (Amlodipine 5mg, Enlapril, Clopidogrel 75mg, Aspirin 75mg, Atrovastatin). I took them for 4 days and immediately my B.P. showed normal. Then the Dr. told me I will have to take the medications as prescribed for the rest of my life or I will have to face rebound effects. I don't like the idea of being on medications forever. It was a small sporadic incidence with grade 1 mild heart dysfunction. I then went for a 2nd opinion from an expert Dr. He asked me to discontinue all previous medications and take only 1/2 Amlodipine and 1/2 aspirin daily for 6 months. I found one of the previous meds was Plavix (Clopidogrel) and learned that it ...

Hi, My name is Michael and I've been on Plavix for the last 3 months. About a month ago or so I completely lost my taste. I thought I was going crazy; however, I found out that there are other people having the same taste lost side effect like me. I was wondering if anyone here had the same problem and if you have been able to regain your taste somehow and also what did you do to regain your taste? I would really appreciate a repy to this email as I am getting desperate and nobody can help me. Thank you very much for your time and consideration to this. Michael ## My husband complaints are the same since he's been taking Plavix. He no longer enjoys the taste of food. I wish there was another alternative as it appears that only by discontinuing the drug will releve the effects. #...

Can Ecosprin 150mg and Plavix be used together. When it is used for same proeprties ie blood thinning then why doctors prescribe together ## They can be used together, because they both work in different ways to achieve the desired effect and, sometimes a person may still have clotting issues if they just use one medication. Learn more Plavix details here. Learn more Ecosprin details here. The doctor should be monitoring the person regularly and they should also know about the associated bleeding risks. Are there any other questions or comments? ## Thanks. My husband had an episode of TIA and was advised ecosprin by neurologist. One of my family friend who is a neuro radiologist suggested us to add plavix as well whereas neurologist treating my husband doesn't recommend same. So i a...

Has anyone had blurred vision while on Plavix? I've been on it for three months and it gets worse every day. ## The FDA does warn that this medication has been known to cause ocular bleeding, so it would be best to consult your doctor to have the blurry vision checked out, to be sure. Other side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and easy bruising. Are you on any other medications? ## I have been on Plavix for 9 months, after having a stroke and then a heart attack... In and around the middle of the 9 months, I started having stomach pain, nausea and flu-like symptoms...I mentioned this to my Doctor and he said if this continued we would look into it....1 day ago I stopped taking the 75mg Plavix and woke up this morning ...

Has anyone expreienced being taken off Plavix and prescribed Lisinopril. Did the Doctor explain why the change. Can't seem to get an answer in this regard. ## lisinopril and plavix are two very different meds. plavix is a platelet inhibiter, not a bp med. The dr. took you off plavix because you no longer needed it. I do not know you history so it is hard to know why. By the way I am an R.N. ## Yes, should just keep asking your doc, until he answers, no reason for that.

I have been taking lovenox post heart attack for 4 days. Is it ok to take plavix too ? ## WHEN I CAN USE PLAVIX AFTER FINISH WITH LOVENOX ## Both Lovenox and Plavix are blood thinners, so you should always follow your doctor's instructions for taking them, and not combine them, unless specifically instructed to do so, since it could create an increased risk of bleeding, and possible hemorrhage. Are either of you on any other medications? In the case of heart attack, you should take the one your doctor has told you to take, for your own safety. Do you know what caused your heart attack?

ive fallen into the medicare donut hole, am on Plavix, Coumadin and 3 blood pressure meds. I just found a sample box of Plavix with 20 pills in a blister pack (sealed) but expired 2/2011.. squibb and pharm refuse to comment on use... I don't have $96 to get a 1 month supply especially since I have to now pay full amt for Coumadin and other meds.. wondering if I can alternate expired Plavix with the 14 pills of new Plavix I was able to get. (im over limits for govt help by $350 so am in a quandary) please help ## Hello, Tonya! How are you? Sorry about the predicament that you're in. And yes, they won't comment, because they don't want to be held liable. No one is really going to be able to advise you on this, other than to say to throw them away. I'm very sorry! It...

Hi, my mother underwent an angioplasty last month and she is taking plavix and ecosprin along with other medicines. Now the doctor has suggested that we can start using clavix instead of plavix as plavix is very expensive. But I'm sceptical about it and would like to know wether Clavix is really as good as Plavix. Thanks, Kris ## There are a few limitations worth mentioning. Although randomized, and comparable in size to other similar investigations, PLUTO-Diabetes was a trial with a small sample size, so chance may represent a plausible alternative explanation for these findings. A high frequency of use of concomitant medications may have affected the platelet characteristics; however, the use of most major drugs was similar between the groups. There was a 2-fold greater prevalence...

I take plavis will sensa affect this drug ## Are you referring to the weight loss product, Sensa? If that is so, then I can only suggest you discuss it with your doctor, or pharmacist. While their website makes many claims, I can't find any specific information on what the product actually contains.

Prednison & Plavix can you take this combo ? ## If you take plavix & have a stent in your heart, can you take predinsone to gain weight ## I'm not finding any contraindications regarding taking them together, however, you should always consult a doctor or pharmacist to be certain. And no, unless your doctor has specifically instructed you to take it, you shouldn't use Prednisone, if you are a heart patient. It can cause fluid retention and, if you are an existing heart patient, this ups your risk of suffering congestive heart failure. Has your doctor instructed you to use it? ## Is it safe to take a methylprednisolone pack if I am on Plavix?

took plavix over 20 years. doc took me off and i noticed really bad headaches. could it be a withdrawal side effect? ## If you were taking it for that long and just suddenly stopped abruptly, without tapering off of it, then yes, that can happen as a withdrawal effect. Learn more Plavix details here. It should taper off in severity soon, after your body starts to adjust to no longer having the medication, but if it doesn't or if it gets worse, then you should seek immediate medical attention, because rebound effects can also occur from stopping such a medication. Is there anything else I can help with? ## i wonder why the doctor didnt tell us this... my head has been killing me for 3 or 4 weeks now... shuld i start the plavix again for a week or o until the headaches stop and then b...

Every other day take one? aspirin in bewtween , or what? Thanks gang for your comments. p.s. I don't think I had a TIA and results were negative on tests. ## Hello, Pete! How are you? Why were you on Aspirin?

I have been taking Plavix for 3 years or more and now my insurance company says that is not on their approved list. Is warfarin an acceptable substitute? ## The only thing I know is that the doctor told my husband Plavix makes blood slippery so it can get into smaller places but it doesn't affect the clotting and Warfarin makes the blood not clot as fast ## i think it depends on what you are taking it for. Plavix Is An Oral Antiplatelet Agent Used In Treatment Of Coronary Artery Disease, Peripheral Vascular Disease, And Cerebrovascular Disease. i've been on coumadin and actually have been happier on plavix none of the bi weekly blood works , i can eat what i want as i love green leafy vegtables. but i have heard that if someone has been on plavix a long time it is harder to cont...

I don't drink everyday but sometimes a couple nights in a row for events. I also take 75mg plavix. Is it safe? ## No, not really. Alcohol and Plavix can both cause blood thinning as side effects, according to the FDA, so taking them together heightens your risk of experiencing dangerous bleeding episodes. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, and easy bruising. How much do you usually drink?

I have Narcolepsy and have been taking various drugs (e.g. Adderall, Dexotrine, Vyvanse) for the condition for the past 8 years. I recently had stints inserted into two arteries (one was almost completely closed). My wife feels that I should not take any stimulant medications since being diagnosed with artery problems. She is also convenienced that stimulant drugs cause me to be quick to anger and also increase intensity of anger. Please advise. ## The PLUTO-Diabetes study revealed substantial differences in the platelet-related effects of 1-month treatment with clopidogrel and ASA combination versus ASA alone in diabetic patients. Indeed, addition of clopidogrel to ASA significantly decreases various measures of platelet activity after 30 days of treatment. Importantly, this study prov...

Brilinta is newer than Plavix and a superior medicine if you can tolerate it. I experienced dizziness, confusion, and chest pain for about three months while taking Brilinta following a stent procedure. I recently switched to Plavix and the side effects have gone away. I recommend trying Brilinta if you can tolerate it because it is slightly superior for avoiding a heart attack or stroke, however if you continue to have side effects you might want to switch to Plavix.

I had a heart attack and DES stent and was told to take Plavix, Metoprolol, Lipitor, and aspirin. I quit taking Plavix after 6 months even though my cardiologist wanted me to take it for 2 years. I also quit taking the Metoprolol, Lipitor, and aspirin. Well that was 9 months ago when I stopped taking everything and I feel great. My doctor says I was lucky that nothing happened. Lucky? Luck has nothing to do with it! I became a vegan and follow the Ornish diet strictly. I take vegan Omega3's. I also take coq10, a multi-vitamin, and drink unprocessed cocoa. I exercise. My LDL without drugs is 70. My bp is 105/70. To hell with Plavix. ## Actually, the reason your doctor said you were lucky is due to the rebound effects that suddenly stopping such medications can cause. These effects ca...
