I have taken lisinolpril for over a year and my BP just keeps going up and down. I have learned there are many items we drink and eat that interact with lisinolpril. Like vitamins, sleeping aides like melatonin, potassium (potassium is in a lot of vitamins and other drinks and foods) apple cider vinegar, the list is long, read your labels. I want to ask my Dr to change me to something else, can anyone advise? ## Hello Charlotte! How are you? How extreme are the fluctuations that you've been experiencing? Your blood pressure will never hit one steady reading and stay there, it will always fluctuate, depending on the time of day you check, what you eat, what you drink, your activity levels, and etc. For example, when you are more active, it should naturally increase, when you are idle...

I've been taking lisinopril for about 3 weeks. And suddenly started with severe diarrhea. I can't eat anything. I took some anti diarrheal medicine and that's not helping. Food doesn't stand my stomach longer than an hour very uncomfortable. What should I do? ## Hello, Shannon! How are you? Diarrhea can be a side effect of this medication, as reported by the FDA, but it shouldn't be that severe. You should contact your doctor as this likely isn't the right medication for you and you'll likely need to try a different one. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache and increased urination. Is that the only new medication you've been taking?

Are there food restrictions such as grapefruit when taking lisinopril? ## can eating grapefruit or juice react with this drug? ## I have checked several sources and there is nothing listed about there being a problem combining the two. ## I'm confused, I've read several different things about drug interactions with lisinopril. My concern is dieutics, and possassium. Can you still take them when taking Lisinopril? ## I worked in health care for years & was never told of an interaction. My husband LOVES grapefruit but has started taking Lisinopril & had severe pains, shortness of breath, & spikeing blood pressure, sweating & vomiting. We had to rush him to the urgent care center near his work when he had an episode & they gave him 2 nitro pills under his tongue...

natural subsitutes/to replace/lisinopril ## There are many alternatives to controlling and/or lowering blood pressure. In my opinion the safest and most logical method would be to control what foods you put into your body. Many acidic foods that are high in sodium such as chips, lunch meats and canned foods can easily cause an unbalance in ones blood pressure if consumed on a regular basis. I am no MD, but my advice would be to eat more alkaline foods. Alkaline foods balance out your entire body's PH level, which effects blood pressure as well. Try to search through google for an alkaline food chart.

i am out of my blood pressure med can i takelisinopril hctz ## Although these two medications are both used for high blood pressure, there's really no telling whether or not you'll experience the same benefits from Lisinopril or even react favorably to it, since everyone responds differently these drugs. Not to say it wont work, but it's always good to have backup options. There are many natural alternatives for Blood Pressure control that in my opinion can be just as effective as prescription medication if taken seriously. I personally had severe hypertension around 150/90, but was able to control it by controlling my eating habits and exercising. What works for me may not work for everyone, but my initial advice is to focus on eating whole foods that have little to no sodi...

My doctor gave me a month to get my blood pressure down - it was 150/95. I tried my best - eliminated salt, exercised like crazy - it was still high when I went back to him so he gave me this med. I felt nothing for the first week or so on it now I'm getting insane nausea. I can't eat. I lost 4 lbs last week. Food just makes me more sick. Coincidentally, each time I checked my own bp at the pharmacy or had the trainer do it at my gym it was 115/90 - not that bad. But he insisted that I needed something. I continue to exercise and eliminate salt in order to soon get off this med. I have a hard time believing that such a low dose would make me so sick. Could this be possible? ## Hello, Sunny! How are you doing? Sorry about the problems that you're having. Yes, a low dose could...

Just learned that the chronic cough I've had for two years might be caused by this med. What would be the alternative Rx? ## Sorry to hear about your bad experience with Lisinopril. I personally used to have severe hypertension for a number of years, but was able to control it by controlling more of my eating habits and exercising. What works for me may not work for everyone, but my initial advice is to look into natural ways (before prescription alternatives) such as: Low/no sodium foods to help reduce inflammation and water retention, supplementation of garlic, as well as having a diet that is rich in potassium and magnesium. Other dietary and non dietary options for lowering blood pressure can include (but are not limited to): L-Theanine Magnesium Glycinate Coenzyme Q10 Garlic Ha...

I take lisinopril twice daily (once at breakfast and once 12 hours later). You are not supposed to eat foods with lots of potassium while taking lisinopril, but how long can you safely wait AFTER taking the pill to safely eat high-potassium foods? I take metoprolol at the same time, and it must be taken with food. ## There is no safe time frame that can be quoted to you. It is just best to avoid them, as much as possible, and see your doctor regularly, so they can do blood work to check your levels, when appropriate, according to FDA directives. When your levels are checked, your doctor should be able to tell you if you need to continue avoiding such foods, or if you can indulge in them more. For example, after having suffered full congestive heart failure, it was discovered that my bod...

I am taking 20mg of Lisinopril per day. However, I am on a diet and with the reduced amount of food I eat the Lisinopril upsets my stomach. Is there a time-release form of the 20 mg Lisinopril pill? ## Hello, Tom! How are you? Have you tried making sure to take it with a meal and not on an empty stomach? That can often mitigate the nausea. The FDA lists other typical side effects as possibly including dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. What do you usually take it with?

Was just wondering how can I keep from getting sick to my stomach all the time when I take my meds. ## You might try packing your med's in food, eat a little, take pill, eat again, take pill etc.. I take Lisinopril at bedtime, along with couple other med's, and have no problem but I usually eat a little bit with it. You may be taking too many at once, divide them up. Chk with your Dr or Pharm. to get the best advice . Hope this helps. ## I have always had the same problem, and food is definitely the key- taking pain medications+empty stomach = ulcer. I've also found that if I take an Acid Reducer (Zantac, Prevacid, etc.) or at least a Rolaids or two with an energy/granola bar it helps tremendously. ## You can also ask your doctor, they can help by possibly prescribing an antina...

I am 45 years old. My blood sugar level is FBS 163 & PPBS 239 and BP 130/70. I have been taking regularly "gliclazide 80 mg + Metformin 500 mg & amlodepine 5 mg + lisinopril 5 mg". My sugar level not coming to normal level inspite of taking these medicines reguarly. Please advise should I change or add more medicine to keep my Blood Ssurgar in normal level. ## Hello, Kondodi! How are you? What types of foods do you eat? Anything sweet, including fruits will elevated your blood sugar. Additionally, anything high in fat coats the cells, so they can't absorb sugar to burn for energy, which also causes blood sugar elevations. So, the best diet for a diabetic is one that's very low in sugar and fat. Another question is: How much exercise do you get? This is also anoth...

I contracted a viral infection and devolped a terrible cough that eventually caused an inability to swallow solid food. After being hospitalized and receceiving every test possilble the medical team could not find anything medically wrong with me. Finally, after my iinsistance that the cause was a result of a side effect of Lisinopril I stopped taking the drug and in about 2 days I was able to eat solid food. Approx, 3 weeks Ilater the cough finally went away. ## Lisinopril can cause a dry cough in some people and it usually lingers, until a few weeks after they stop the medication, but such a side effect hasn't been known to cause trouble swallowing food. Two doctors have told me to take atacand 8mg, lisinopril 5mg, and metroprol succ. 25mg for my slightly high blood pressure. There are many natural alternatives for Blood Pressure control that in my opinion can be just as effective as prescription medication, with little to no side effects.
