Is there any difference between sulfameth/tmp ds tab and Sulfameth Tmp ss Tab? If so what are they What does the extention ds versus ss mean anyway? ## The DS stands for double strength, because it has double the amount of the active ingredients as was in the original formula. However, the only thing I am aware of concerning prescriptions that use SS is a sliding scale, meaning the dosage is half or less than the original, so I am not sure if that's what this means, or not. Learn more Bactrim details here. Is anyone else familiar with the SS and what it stands for?

I am a nurse trying to find out for a friend who has a three month prescription for this drug. She read that it can cause kidney failure. Are there any standard letters that could be faxed to me about this. I used to be in product information and when a health care professional called, we sent out standard letters and gave more information than on the PI. My friend is a wreck and is taking this for a UTI (recurring over and over). Can you help me by calling me at 484-919-6935 or faxing to me 610-292-9257, any standard letters you have about this information. ## I am afraid I do not have any letters to send you, however, the only warnings I see listed for this are for those who already have a renal problem or suffer a severe reaction to the medication. If she has already been using it, t...

I started feeling sick last week, but thought nothing of it. Went to the dr on Wed. and up until then I had no fevers. Was prescribed SMZ/TMP. She really couldn't diagnose me at that time. I started it Wed. night. Went back to work on Thurs. and had to leave mid morning. I could barely stand up straight. I kept doubling over. By the time I got home fever of 103. Still on med, but continue to get fevers of low grade. Continue to double over. My urine is dark yellow, almost orange. Is that because of the med? ## I had similar symptoms when taking it and it turned out to be a bad reaction that only got worse, when I didn't connect it to the antibiotic right away. Learn more SMZ/TMP details here. I strongly encourage you to contact your doctor immediately for an alternative medicati...

I am an 80 year old female in good health with no medications until a recent bout with Urinary Tract Infection. I tolerated the pills for a few days week but the symptoms got so severe I stopped taking them. I took 15 out of 20. I was constipated for the first four days and had stomach discomfort with lots of gas and bloating. The last couple of days my legs hurt bad from my groin to my knees and the bloating and gas got worse even after regular bowel movements. I felt so bad I stayed in bed most of the day. I felt normal after getting off this medication. Will never take this one again. Now I wonder what ingredients could cause the most severe leg pain. ## This is a generic for the antibiotic Bactrim, smz stands for Sulfamethoxazole, and TMP stands for Trimethoprim. It is used to treat...

I began taking this medication on Tuesday. I understand it is the generic versions of Bactrim. I immediately felt a relief in the congestion and went on to take the 2nd and 3rd dose on Wednesday. While sleeping, I awoke with cramps up and down my thighs and calf. To say the least, that was a sleepless night. I telephoned my doctor the next day, on Thursday, to question with this could be a side affect of the drug. He did not believe so. By mid-day on Thursday, I could not stand in one spot for more than a minute. My legs and feet began to ache and forced me to sit. I have been in excrutiating pain. I returned to my Doctor on Friday and he suggested I stop the medication. I went directly to the Emergency to get a blood analysis. Everything came back fine. Again the doctor in the hospital...

I was prescribed this medication by my dermatologist for a skin disorder that he originally thought was pityrosporum folliculitis. I've been prescribed a few different medications that seemed reasonable (by internet standard) but this seems to be a little off. Is this a common medication used to cure this type of skin disorder? Thanks in advance ## You said that's what he originally thought it was, so now what does he believe it to be? This medication is an antibiotic and isn't generally used to treat yeast based issues. ## I have been issue pliva 334 to treat yeast infection.
