I've heard that gabapentin has a shelf life of five years after expiration. Most pharmacists have to put a earlier expiration date on them however. And even if gabapentin is expired they pose no risk. Maybe they'll lose some of their effectiveness, but that's it. ## Hello, Cindy! How are you? Yes, that information is correct and no, they do not become toxic. Once the pharmacy breaks the seal on the original factory bottle, they are required, by the FDA, to put a one year expiration date on the dispensing bottle, because that is the longest time the manufacturers can guarantee their full efficacy under average storage conditions, in someone's home. The 4 to 5 years is under ideal storage conditions, where they aren't exposed to the elements that can cause degradation,...

i had shoulder surgery 2 days ago and it is very painful. i have lots of this med left from when it was originaly prescribed for deep pain in 1 of my legs. i was told that a nerve that was too deep in my leg could not be accessed and this would help. my concern is if i take it now could it help with the pain from my shoulder surgery. or is it not a good idea ## Have you consulted your doctor about what you should take for the pain? Lyrica is not actually an analgesic, so it won't help immediately with pain, such as that which occurs after surgery. It is an anticonvulsant, which can also help with certain types of nerve pain, but for it to do it must be taken consistently for several weeks, before it really has much of an effect. ## funny you should mention that! it has now been sinc...

How would I know if it contains gluten in the list of inactive ingredients? ## Hello, Peggy! How are you? What are the markings on the Gabapentin that you've received from your pharmacy? That would enable me to check the ingredients for you. The FDA classifies this medication as being an anticonvulsant that is also used to treat certain types of nerve pain and some mood disorders. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, mood swings and weight gain. ## On my prescription bottle label, the manufacturer's name is right below the name of the drug in small print. You can google that drug/mfr name to see if it's gluten free. ## D03 are the markings on my gabapentin. Can you tell me if it contains gluten? ## RE: Gabapentin (pill impri...

The bottom of both of my feet have a burning sensation especially when I go to bed and I can't sleep. My pain dr. prescribed Gabapentin 300mg (1 before going to bed for a week and then 2 thereafter). I've just started taking it last night and I couldn't get to sleep, tossing off and on all night. My primary dr. prescribed Zolpidem for sleeping which makes me sleep and I don't feel the burning sensation. My question is, can I take both meds before bedtime? ## Continue zolpiden no need to take gabapentin. I think Feeling burning sensation on your foot because of sleeplessness. I'd like to discuss with someone about the proper dosage of this medication. Can anyone help? ## There is really no set dosage for this, though you do need to start at a low dosage and gradually add more until you find the amount that works effectively for you. Most doctors will start with 100mgs taken 2 to 3 times a day, then go up to 300 and continue adding until they find what works for each patient. It would take a tremendous amount to OD on this, which is why so many doctors like to use it, they can take the dosage very high, without danger and it has very few side effects. Your best bet then, is to take your doctors advice on what you should be taking and how often. ## I just started gabapentin. My doctor told me to take 300 mg before bedtime for the first week and then move u...

Is 300mg, two capsules three times a day plus 50mg, one in morn & two at night plus1500mg keppra morn & 1500 keppra night, per day to much medication to be on for epilepsy. & what can this be doing to my body ## Hello, Kim! How are you? No, it's not necessarily too much. The dosages of most anticonvulsants have to be set to meet an individuals needs to stop their seizures or keep them under control. However, long-term use of them, as reported by the FDA, may result in your experiencing some side effects, such as memory loss, clumsiness and weight gain. Is there anything else I can help with?

I take 300 mg gabapentin at night for post operative foot pain and have started itching profusely does this med cause that and if so how long do you have to be off of it before it subsides? ## Hello, Nana! How are you? Yes, according to the FDA, it has been known to cause this as a side effect in some people that take it, along with nausea, dizziness, mood swings and weight changes. Have you consulted your doctor? They can help you determine whether or not it is due to the medication, for sure, as well as what you can do to help alleviate it. As to how long it will take to stop, it really depends on how long you've been taking it, it could take a few days, or a week. ## Thank you. Verwon, I have stopped taking gabapentin to see if itching subsides, I am taking doxepin and ceritizine...

Since it isn't an actual analgesic, it may take 4 to 5 weeks, before it reaches its full level of efficacy in your body to see if it helps you. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight gain. It's not from the Zoloft. Your having gabapentin WD's and symptoms of interdose withdrawals IDK ## Hi! I am not sure who you were responding to, but in the future to make a response to someone's post, you can use the reply button directly under their post, so they will receive notification of your response. As to withdrawals, a person can experience them if they abruptly stop any medication that they've been taking for a long period of time. Thus, both Zoloft and Gabapentin can cause withdrawal issues, including the risk of seizures, which may be dangerous, as reported by the FDA. Other withdrawal effects may include dizziness, headache, irritability, mood swings, rebound depression, anxiety, insomnia and diarrhea. Is there anything I can help with?

Hi. I am a 58yo female with a 6 yr old back injury, was diagnosed and have had surgery/treatment for breast cancer - all clear. Menopausal flushes have returned with an absolute whack. At the moment I take 10mg of Endone before getting out of bed. Last night I started Gabapentin 300mg. I work 10hr days, with Tuesdays off so okay to take Gabapentin this morning as no driving/concentration at work not an issue. Does anyone else take this combination of meds? Just wondering if one offsets the other etc. Tnx for any input.

I'm taking 1800mgs 4 times a day and there's really no high but it keeps me off the booze. I'm tapering down 200mgs a day so in a bit it will all work out. ## Hello, Delance! How are you? No, there wouldn't be a high from this. Though many people misunderstand because it can help with some types of pain, it is not an actual analgesic. It is an anticonvulsant. Tapering down by that much a day could cause some withdrawal and rebound symptoms, such as dizziness, drowsiness, diarrhea, nausea, pain and headaches, so please be careful. Do you have any questions or concerns? ## Valentin is a drug for many disorders you will not feel high on it.
