I am not familiar with pharmacies in your area, have you tried calling around to different ones to see if anyone has it? Alternatively, have you looked into obtaining it via mail order or filled through a web-based pharmacy? I've been searching everywhere for an answer to this, but does anybody know if it is okay to take Advil with Valacyclovir? My wife's gotten a headache (a reported side effect) and is really wanting to take a pain medication. I have read that individuals should check with their doctor before taking Valacyclovir if they are taking NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen, but I can't seem to find a definite answer if one Advil will be harmful. ## Ibuprofen is not specifically listed as a drug which interacts with Valacyclovir (meaning it is not implicitly described as dangerous to take together with it, whereas other drugs have been mentioned). Are you on a short-term dosage to deal with an outbreak, or do you take it regularly as a preventative? For short-term use of higher doses, there likely isn't much that will help, though your doctor may be able to prescribe something for nausea. However, if you're taking it long-term for prevention, then you may do better switching to either Acyclovir or Famcyclovir to see if they cause you less issues. ## Thankyou for your response. What's the difference of both medication? ## Both Valaciclovir and Acivlovir are used to treat the same condtions, since both are antiviral medications, but the Acyclovir is believed to be less Cycotoxic. I've been taking Valacyclovir for about 30 days 3 times a day for shingles. I'd like to have a beer or cocktail at dinner with my wife. Would this be ok or not? Have any other patients had any problems mixing the drug and alcohol? ## Indulging in alcohol while taking this medication could cause you to experience more severe side effects than usual, according to NIH warnings, which may include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, and vomiting. Thus, if your doctor approves of your imbibing, you should make sure that you will not be driving, or operating any dangerous machinery, afterwards. Are you on any other medications?

I have some white and red patches on my tongue. Doctor prescribed me Methylprednisolone 4mg and first day should take 6 tablets and i should gradually decrease one tablet. And also he gave Valacyclovir HCL 1gm 3 times a day. I started taking this medicine and i took it for one day and next day one tablet, i am felling so depressed and i am feeling tensed and little heavy heart beat than usual. Now i am not feeling like to take that medicine. After a small research i got to know that steroids are not good for health. it even effects immune system. And I am just 25. What is the difference between valacyclovir hcl 500mg and valacyclovir 1gm tablets? Why does one have hcl on the prescription bottle and the other just says valacyclovir? ## The only different between what you listed is the dosage, and the HCL just designated the specific chemical salt that medication has been derived from, some places list it on the prescription, and some don't. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, flatulence, and diarrhea. My doctor prescribed me valacyclovir.I took the full dose (2 pills in AM, 2 pills in PM of same day.) That was yesterday. My mouth sore is bigger! I have amoxtrk 875=125 as well as ayclovir 800mg (6 pills) Can I take either of these two prescriptions considering that I took valacyclovr yesterday? Both Valacyclovir and Acyclovir are only effective against the herpes simplex virus that causes cold sores and, once you've already gotten a cold sore, that initial dose you took on the first day is enough. Is Ranbaxy Valacyclovir gluten free ? ## Hello, Based on my research, Ranbaxy Pharmaceutical's version of Valacyclovir hydrochloride does NOT list gluten as an ingredient. From what I could gather, each film-coated tablet contains the following list of inactive ingredients: crospovidone, FD&C blue #2/indigo carmine aluminum lake, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol 400, polyethylene glycol 6000, polysorbate 80, povidone, and titanium dioxide. If I'm taking Nitrofur Macr 100 mg for bladder infection, can I also take valacyclovir Hcl 1 also. Is there a drug reaction? I am getting a cold sore and that is why I have this too.
