Where can I get help finding Tussionex brand name in Houston, TX. Medicaid will only pay for the brand name not the generic. I've been trying to find the maker on google for assistance but cant find them any where. ## Hi Adrianne, The FDA notes that Tussionex is manufactured "for" a company called UCB Manufacturing Inc.; who is reportedly based in Smyrna, GA 30080. And from what I can tell, they may end up distributing it from there. However I can't seem to locate any other specific details mentioning who actually makes it. why can't this medicine be found today. It was the only thing that would stop my mom from coughing. She is 86 years old and coughs so violently that I am afraid it is going to kill her. Her Dr. has tried many things but to no avail nothing has worked. Her Dr. says that this medicine has been discontinued. My prescription was for tussionex 60z bottle. I got the generic and have medicare Part D and it cost $ 135.00. Does it cost that much everywhere ? From the information I am finding, the regular, adult formulation contains 8mgs of Chlorpheniramine and 10mgs of Hydrocodone, per teaspoon. What is the dosage on the prescription? Tussionex also contains Hydrocodone with Chlorpheniramine, so it's likely close to what you've taken before. Several pharmacies would not fill the prescription, and they said it is no longer an approved cough medicine... This cough medicine worked...What is comparable that is available? ## No, Tussionex was one of the ones that did receive FDA approval. There are also several others that contain the same active ingredients that are approved, such as Hycodan, Mycodone, and Tussigon. Perhaps you should ask your doctor about prescribing one of them. They do warn that these medications carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. That said, NO, Pleurisy is fluid around the lungs, neither one of these will treat that. is this what your doctor prescribed for you?

Heavy cough ## I was prescribed Tussionex syrup for an acute bronchial infection, along with an antibiotic and an inhalant. I took the Tussionex before I went to bed, and was not able to sleep a wink all night. I had a similar reaction to another cold medication about 5 years ago. Is this common? Thank you. ## Hi Teri, Certain drugs are actually okay to take after expiration, whereas others such as antibiotics can become toxic. Tussionex contains a combination of Chlorpheniramine + Hydrocodone. My personal assumption is that it lost a good percentage of its potency by now, having been over 2 years old. It may still be effective, but not nearly as potent. It's also impossible to give a direct answer to this question, since each medication can effect people differently. I have taken TUSSIONEX several times when I've had bronchitis. It really breaks up the congestion and helps with the cough. I got a bottle today and the consistency is like Water. My resolved has always been a thick consistency and gritty.
