My 13 pound dog takes 1/2 of a 5mg/1.5mg hydrocodone pill every 8 hours to control coughing. However, in taking her other pills, I accidentally included another 1/2 of a 5mg/1.5mg after she had one 4 hours ago. Is this cause for the panic and alarm I'm feeling? ## You should call your vet and tell them what happened, they will be best able to asses whether or not there is any danger to your dog, and if possible treatment is required. While we love dogs, and have two small pups ourselves, I am nowhere near as knowledgeable about the use of medication in canines as I am about medication usage in people, unfortunately. I do, however, know that it can cause some of the same side effects, and overdose effects in dogs, that it does in humans, so you should watch for severe lethargy, drows...

Can a dog develop allergy to tussigon given for trachea collapse? There seems to be itching and scratching which is happening, not related to heat or fleas. Could it be the Med? ## It is as easy for dogs to be allergic to something as it is for people….this applies to all other animals, as well. However, it could also be due to the fact that this contains the narcotic Hydrocodone, it can cause itching as a side effect. Learn more Hydrocodone details here. I would suggest contacting your veterinarian about either getting an alternative medication, or something you can use for the itching. Is there anything else I can help with?

Learn more Tussigon details here. Have you contacted your vet about it?

Finally he referred us to a specialist in Gathersburg, MD. At that appointment he was diagnosed with COPD, and the medicine he was treated with could have caused kidney failure. That vet put him on the tussigon and it does help some. The reason I am writing is because I see that several people have written in that they have the same breed of dog that we have. Just make sure that your diagnoses is correct and your dogs are being treated for the correct illness. I also see that people are having a hard time finding Tussigon. Why aren't your vets providing this for you? It is expensive, ...
