How is the medication released. As simple was 6.67 per hour for 12 hours? ## Hi joe, According to a .gov article I found on the absorption of Oxycontin, the tablet itself is considered to be 'biphasic', which means that it is being dispensed in two different phases. The initial release is said to be approx. 40% of the active ingredient; which provides an onset of pain relieving effects within one hour for most patients. At this point, it is followed by a second more controlled release that carries out the remaining duration of effects. Page 1 in the link below offers more specific details on the pharmacokinetics of it: medsafe.govt.nz/profs/datasheet/o/OxyContintab.pdf I hope this helps!

is there injection form of this pill and what would happen if you did inject it? ## Hello, Fancy! How are you? There is a liquid that is formulated for such use. It isn't safe to do that with pills, since they contain fillers and excipients that may cause blockages. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

Is there op 80s that are red? Given a op 80 just making sure its an 80 mg ## Hello, Jay! How are you? In the U.S., the 80mg Oxycontin tablets are green. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. What are the markings on the tablet in question?

My tolerance is of course increasing to this prescription and I can not get a new stronger does from my Doctor as this med facility has strong rules against it. So since this does wears off after 6 - 8 hours can't I basically just increase to 3X/day by taking it every 8 hours instead? Here's a strange twist to my story: My Dr. said no to an increase in dosage and referred me to an outside pain specialist for my pain meds BUT! I also noticed that for the last two months my monthly prescription labeled for 60 tabs actually has about a weeks worth of extra oxy's. I know I'm not missing any doses. Any opinions? ## Hello, B Hughes! How are you? If you up your dosage on your own, you're going to run out early, which could end up with your doctor flagging you as an abuser/a...

Given OxyContin Extended Release 40mg per 12 hours in place of Methadone 10mg four times daily. Always given for pain by MD, 20 years now. Initial dose 20 yrs ago was 200 mg daily, got myself down to 120 mg daily, then down to 40mg (all of these in four doses, that took 3 years). I've been on OxyContin ER for one month along with Vicodin for breakthrough and Tramadol. Nothing really works. Can't sleep, eat or care for myself. The reason I'm off Methadone is because insurance said I would need to pay for it and I can't. Back with my parents and they are lost in this situation. On OxyContin I get relief for about 4 hours (after it takes close to an hour to start relief). They are the worst. I just want Methadone back but it has ruined and ruled my life. No marriage, no chi...

I'm about to take an oxycontin 15 mg extended release pill for lower back pain and buldging disks. I wanted to know how long the one 15 mg will last so I don't take too much. Help? ## Hello, Christine! How are you? Oxycontin tablet are intended to be taken every 12 hours, unless your doctor instructs otherwise. Since I started the 60mg op I have been feeling lots of discomfort in my chest, like pressure against my heart like a heart attack, but what I think is going on is it's backing up my bowels causing all this discomfort I never felt when I was just on norco. I've read here where op causes constipation, I'm wondering if this could be the reason for all the discomfort I'm in? I've noticed a change in my bowel movements, like smaller sized stools, not nearly as much is coming out like it used to do. Should I consider using a stool softener or a laxative to see if my discomfort subsides or should I head to the ER and say I'm having a heart attack only to find out I've got side effects happening related to this new drug I'm on? This feeling of constant pressure ...

Hello- I've been taking Oxycontin slow release 5mg twice a day for 4 weeks post op. I want to get off them ASAP as I'm scared of becoming reliant. Do I need to see my GP to wean off or is it ok to just stop? Thanks! ## Hello, Olivia! How are you? You haven't been taking a very high dose, so withdrawals would likely be minimal and may include nausea, dizziness, fever, chills, diarrhea and rebound pain, according to the U.S. FDA. However yes, it would be best to slowly taper off, though after only being on them for 4 weeks, that isn't likely to be a long process. Speaking to your doctor about it would help ensure that you do so as safely as possible. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hi..... Thank you so much for your reply. I was on 60mg of oxycontin 3x a day, and cuz of my insurance company had to switch to 15mg of extended release morphine.. I am very concerned about the pain or withdrawal symptoms. Anyone know if it's the same?? ## Oxycodone is actually one and a half times stronger than Morphine, so to be equivalent in pain relief, you'd need 90mgs of Morphine to match each 60mgs you were taking of Oxycontin. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. If you are taking 15mg doses, then yes, you may experience pain and some withdrawal symptoms, which may include nausea, diarrhea, fever and chills. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Wo...

This tablet does contain 30mgs of Oxycodone, but it is not time released, it is a regular release formulation, which would be a generic for Roxicodone. I took my first Oxy 60 OP. It did not work well...reminded me of the generic ones a few years ago. I have been struggling with chronic pain most of my life. I have been taking 3 60MG Extended Release Oxycontin tablets a day along with 3 30MG Oxycodone instant release for breakaway pain. After 3 years of the same dosage it's not working as well as it used to. So my doctor decided to change up the meds a bit. She gave me Morphine Sulphate 60MG ER twice a day and for the life of me I cannot feel this working. It's only been a day but usually I would have pain relief around 30-45 after taking the Oxycontin and then about 3-6 hours of relief. How is this Morphine twice a day at the same MG going to give me the same relief I was getting before AND was already struggling with hence the change to the Morphine? I don't get it, especially after everything I have read falls in line ...

I have oxycontin 15 mg for cancer pain. Finding it difficult to determine how much is released into the bloodstream at intervals. Does it 'peak' at a certain time? Or, once it breaks down inside the body, is it an even release throughout the 12 hours? I'm imagining it is like taking 5 mg of oxycodone every 4 hours. Correct? Thanks! ## Hello, Matronum! How are you? The way it is made, the pill media slowly dissolves over a period of 12 hours, due to your stomach acid, so the medication is just very gradually release, rather than releasing boluses every so many hours. Think of an ice cube slowly melting in a warm room, it's really just drop, by drop, until it fully melts. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects,...

There is no roxicontin its roxicodone 5, 10,15 and 30mg. Then they have oxyir, oxycodone. Those are instant release! ## You are correct, the actual name of the medication is Oxycontin and it contains a time released formulation of Oxycodone. Thus, it has the same active ingredient as the others you've mentioned, but it is taken every 12 hours. Learn more Oxycontin details here. Are there any questions or comments?
