I have been taking methadone for 10 days starting at 30 and ending at 60. I don't want to have to get up at 5am and drive 35min for the rest of my life, so I'd like to get back on subutex. Can anyone tell me when I can take it? I have not taken methadone for 2 days now. ## Hello, Cory! How are you? You need to be in full withdrawal, before taking Subutex, otherwise it may throw you into dangerous precipitated withdrawals. Thus, there's no precise time frame that can be given, because it may vary from person to person. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Did your doctor provid...

Ive been on 160mg of methadone for 2 years but i cant Feel it at all, if i switch to subutex will i feel Them? ## @drew, According to The National Alliance of Advocates for Buprenorphine Treatment (naabt.org), it is recommended that patients slowly reduce their Methadone dosage down to 30mgs for a period of at least a week, BEFORE attempting to discontinue it completely - AND THEN waiting at least 36 hours before starting Buprenorphine. They also go on to emphasize that patients "MUST" be in a mild to moderate state of withdrawal before taking their first dose of Buprenorphine. That said, I would just encourage you to follow these protocols down to the 'T' as well as asking your doctor for their opinion in case minor adjustments need to be made to fit your specific situa...

I've been taking methadone for 10 years, I recently ran out of my prescription. Is it safe to take subutex or will it send me into withdrawals? ## Hello, Lucy! How are you? You have to be in full withdrawals, before taking the Subutex. It contains the opiate Buprenorphine and it tends to cling to the opiate receptors very strongly and will displace most others, throwing you into precipitated withdrawals, which can be dangerous. The FDA warns that this medication may be habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

I go to the clinic and get methadone but missed a day, so i took a half a subutex. Within 15 min it sent me into immediate withdrawal. How long should i wait to take my methadone again? Is it going to send me into worse withdrawal? ## If you took Subutex, then it did not send you into withdrawals, you are most likely experiencing withdrawal from missing your Methadone, you probably didn't take an equivalent dose of the Subutex. Subutex only contains the opiate Buprenorphine, it doesn't contain the Naloxone like Suboxone does, which is what could cause someone to go into precipitated withdrawals. These medications are listed by the FDA as carrying the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. You shoul...

My name is AJ. I've been taking 8mg subutex ( not suboxone) for two weeks. I start the methadone clinic in 5 days. How long should I be off subutex to start methadone? And if I still have subs in my system will I go into precipitated withdraws? ## Hi AJ, It looks like this question has already been asked/answered in several other discussion threads here, so what I'm doing is just linking you to the thread that I feel addresses this inquiry most accurately: Discuss/SETTING-RECORD-STRAIGHT-how-long-after-taking-subutex-can-u-take-methadone-280366.htm This social worker from a pain management clinic goes on to state that patients should wait 12 to 24 hours after Subutex before having Methadone in order to avoid precipitated withdrawals; due to the presence of Buprenorphine, which k...

I took two 10mg methadones about eight hours ago for the very first time. Am i okay to take some subutex without there being any serious side effect? ## Probably too late but don't do it. You could get precipitated withdrawals. ## @james, In order to avoid precipitated withdrawal, my findings suggest that it may be a good idea to wait at least 3-5 days or longer before using Subutex, depending on how fast you metabolize Methadone. According to nhtsa.gov, Methadone's half life is reported to be an estimated 60 hours, which means it's probably better to play it safe rather than take any risks within the first 24 hours. But if you really need to use Subutex sooner, I'd encourage you to contact your doctor about getting a second opinion based on their own discretion from exp...

I took a half of a 8mg subutex at 12 this after noon I have methadone can I take it or will it make me sick ## Hello, Nuke! How are you? It would be a waste of the Methadone, because the Subutex will prevent it from having any effect. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

Methadone maintenance really worked well for me, in 27 years no relapses, turned my life around! Now I'm ready to put it all behind me, and methadone is so hyper controlled now. Had my last methadone dose of 27mg yesterday at 8:30am, plan to switch to subutex tomorrow. SO scared of withdrawal of any kind. Can you give me some positive encouragement?? ## There is information on the various treatment options on the NIH website. Did you doctor tell you to start taking it that soon? You can't start Subutex too soon, because doing so could cause you to go into dangerous precipitated withdrawals, you have to be in full withdrawal, before taking it. Have you started taking it, yet? If so, how are you doing? ## Be very cautious. Methadone has a long have life. I would taper down to 0mg ...

Hi all, I am 39, male and am going to take 8 MG's Subutex after being on methadone for 4 years (I'm just over it, tired) 60 MG's next day took 30 MG's next day took 20mgs and finally 10 MG's to taper a bit. I then waited 43 hours and am in moderate withdrawal. I have been in much worse withdrawal then now but decided to go ahead with 8 MG's of sub now to see, lab rat style, if I precip or get relief. There seem to be many different experiences, some say 24 hours some say 72. I will try to give an update if I precip and will for sure if I don't. Fingers crossed, I hope its the latter. Any input or encouragement would be appreciated. I am determined to finally beat this thing, don't want to turn 40 and still be an active addict. Much love to all of you. Lov...

I took 30 mg of Methadone in the morning and an 8 mg Subutex in the afternoon. I don't feel sick. Am I supposed to? ## My DR started me on 10mg of methadone. couple of days later, my mouth was parcially numb and my taste was all messed up. I didnt even consider it to be the methadone. I thought it was something I ate. but then after a few more days, I figured it had to be the methadone. Has anyone else had methadone cause their inside moth to be numb or totally mess with their taste buds? If so, how long after stopping methadone till your taste came back to normal? ## @BK, There's actually another discussion thread here on this same topic with over 40 comments. I'd recommend browsing through it and seeing what feedback others already provided at: Discuss/Subutex-to-Methadone...

I have been on methadone treatment for about 2 years. I originally started going to a clinic and took the liquid. I was at about 200 mg per dose. I couldn't keep going to the clinic, and keep a steady job. I ended up finding a pain management doctor that prescribed me the pill form. We worked out a plan to taper down because methadone is just not good if you want to have energy, an increased libido, sweat, and all the lovely other symptoms. I ended up tapering down to about 60 mg per day then my doctor decided that he wanted me to switch from methadone to subutex. So, we made a plan to get down another 30 mg. I took the 30 mg for a week, then he told me he was ready to prescribe the subutex. My last dose of methadone was Friday morning at 6 a.m. I ended up making it 56 hours before ...

Hi, I've been prescribed opiates for years now. With a few breaks between (with Subs, methadone, etc) after weaning my usage down. I took 2 days of methadone. Can I still take 2 mg (and slowly increase) my subutex use 24hrs after my last dose of 30mg methadone? ## Hello, Sue! How are you? Just like when starting Suboxone, you have to be in full withdrawal, before taking Subutex, unless your doctor directs otherwise, or it could throw you into dangerous precipitated withdrawals. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction, so it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation and dry mouth. I had an allergic reaction to a medicine that I was prescribed for migraines and on Easter of 2009 I literally died. I flat-lined 3 times and was in a coma for 18 days. Then out of the grace of god a doctor came into my room in the middle of the night and decided to try to Eckmo (sp:) machine on me. IT WORKED! Thank goodness I did wake up and although I had to learn to eat, walk, speak, etc. all over again. All of my organs are 100%. But I ended up with horrible drop foot on both feet and we don't know why, but also horrible bilateral neuropathy. I have been through so many surgeries just so that my feet would actually work so that I could walk again, however we can't seem to control the pain of the neuropathy, because we don't know how I got it. Anyway, I was on 50 mg of th...

I take 20mgs of methadone, im wanting to know what would happen if I switch to subtex and would it would be safe to start the same day? Took it 10 a.m. today. ## Absolutely NOT. I was switched due to a heart condition, did it in the hospital I was admitted to for a week til my heart got ok. Was sent home with subutex, 3 times a day. It's been about 6 weeksand I still have to show pos. for methadone. I went throu horrible withdrawal just 2 week's ago, every time I had taken it I got sick. Doctors said it made no sense. One doc explained that the subutex kicks off the other opiates. Up to you but I would never do it again. ## What Tracy has stated is correct, The Buprenorphine in the Subtext takes a stronger hold on the opiate receptors, which is why it's used to help prevent ...

Hello my name is kev. I have been consuming about 3 to 6 mg of Subutex daily for about 7 months. I'm very eager to eliminate the Subutex and start on these Methadone. Is it safe to consume Methadone 20 mgs the day after taking about 3 mgs of Subutex? I heard Suboxone was the dangerous one, not Subutex and I also heard the taking Methadone after Subutex is safe apposed to Methadone to Subutex. Any answers would be highly appreciated. Thank you. ## People are just stupid. The buprenorphine is what keeps you from feeling high on other full opiates. The naloxone is only in the suboxone to keep you from misusing the drug. If taken properly the naloxone will not affect you. noone seems to understand that subutex is just as useful for opiate w/d as suboxone and it is the active ingredient ...

My finance has been attending a methadone clinic for about a month now. He is up to 95 ml of liquid methadone. This morning he missed his dosage and in fear of getting withdrawal he took a subutex. He is now getting insanely cold then hot then cold again. His legs are hurting him insanely bad. Should I be worried? Can someone please tell me what's going on? I have no idea about any of this stuff but I absolutely hate seeing him this way! HELP ME PLEASE!!!! ## I think it's called precipitated withdrawals. It's what happens when you take the suboxone before your body is completely rid of the methadone. Basically the suboxone is forcing his body to eliminate the methadone. This is what I gather from reading posts about switching from methadone to subs. They say at least 3 - 4 d...

Hey guys I’ve been on methadone for 8 years taking 127mg I’m so tired of not being able to go out of town or do anything without showing why we’re and whatever else they ask for to show proof of why I couldn’t make it if my number is called while I’m away from the clinic it’s like I’m on Color code or something I am trying to figure out what I should do to switch to subutex with less withdrawals as possible because I work 6 days a week 10 hours a day and I’m VERY NERVOUS about doing this but think it’s time ## Hello, Beth! How are you? Many people have successfully switched, but you do have to be in full withdrawal from the Methadone, before you do so. A doctor licensed to prescribe Suboxone for addiction treatment should be able to ...

Hi, I'm currently taking 120mg of methadone which i take 40mg every 8 hours and I've been in the hospital for over 3 months due to a blood infection that has left me almost unable to walk. Now I would have to go to a methadone clinic everyday in order to dose which is impossible with me being in a wheel chair right now. I'm wanting to go back on subutex as I was on this medication before until I needed something stronger for pain. Can I take a low dose of subutex tonight like 12 hours after I last dosed on methadone at 40mg. ## Hell, Jaymee! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're so ill. If you're in the hospital, you shouldn't take anything without doctor's approval, because there may be interactions or problems with something else they have you taking,...
