i have been on 12.5mg of ramipril each day for the past 2 and half years. We have now got a new doctor in our practice and he says that it is a too high dosage for me and now has put me on 10mg of ramipril and 5mg of amlodipine. Could the high dosage of rampipril caused anything to me, i have my blood pressure checked every three months and bloods done every six months or can it do anything to me in the future. ## That's actually not a really high dosage, it can go up to 20mgs a day for hypertension. Why did he feel it was too high of a dose, were your blood pressure readings low, while you were taking it? Next question, why is it only being checked every 3 months? Are you checking it yourself, at home? ## I have not had a bowel movement in almost 4 months. Have had every test known...

I read and came to know that in some patients the use of Ramipril actually increases the blood pressure due to some specific action of kidney emissions (only a minority of the patients), as it is in my case. Can somebody clarify? ## No, it actually causes the opposite effect, in a small percentage of patients that have some impairment to renal function, it can cause them to absorb too much of the medication and suffer from low blood pressure (hypotension). In these cases, they have to use a much lower dosage and their BP must be regularly monitored to make sure it isn't dropping too low. This is a common issue with most blood pressure medications. ## I am 63 years old. I take Ramistar 5mg in the morning and2.5 mg in the night. My diastolic varies between 70 and 80, However it is sys...

I have been taking Ramipril for two weeks and I am wondering if weight gain is one of the side effects. Finally, after been overweight all my life, I reached my weight goal and I am worried about getting weight back with this medication. ## MedlinePlus has some great details on this medication. Some in this class have been known to cause weight gain, but it is not common, and usually is a maximum of around 10 pounds. Other side effects may include nausea, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. However, if you are taking it to treat high blood pressure, or a cardiac condition, the risk to your health is far greater, if you don't take it, as prescribed. Are you on any other medications? Congratulations on the weight loss! ## No. It is the only medication I have to take. I am ...

The upset stomach can be a side effect of both of these medications, if it is too severe, you should talk to your doctor about it, they may be able to help you in some way by prescribing something else, or by giving you something to prevent nausea. What do you mean by feeling unsure of yourself? I need more details on this, in order to help you. Thanks!

My doctor has taken me off Ramipril 10mg and Bisoprolol 1.25 and put me on Perindopril 4mg. The ramipril did not lower my bp but i had few side effects . When the bisoprolol was added it lowered my bp a little but it was still out of control and I got bouts of vertigo and palpatations when the Bisoprolol was added. However as I was on amlodipine for a number of years , that actually kept my bp lower but the side effects gave me no quality of life at all so i would not like to use again. Does anyone know the difference of Ramipril and Perindopril and if Perindopril has less side effects than Ramipril and does it work better at lowering bp? ## Well, it isn't that any medication really has less risk of side effects than any other. It's just that some are known to cause them less of...

I have been using C-Pram S 10 for 2 years and my weight has increased from 92kg to 112kg... Does this medication have any side effects? Since taking Bisoprolol 2.5mg my weight has increased. Is there an alternative tablet that can be taken to eliminate the weight gain but still be as effective to my recovery? ## Hello Jacqui! How are you? Unfortunately, possible weight gain is a side effect of virtually all blood pressure and cardiac medications. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea, dizziness, increased urination and hypotension. How much have you gained? What condition is being treated? ## This site has really helped me understand weight gain and Bisoprolol (plus ramipril)... Does anyone have a diet that helps counteract the weight gain? I have been taking cardace 10mg. tablets 2 tabs per day for the past 3 years. Is there any side effects if taken for a long time. ## Cardace contains the active ingredient Ramipril, it is an ACE inhibitor that is used to treat high blood pressure and cardiac conditions. There are always risks associated with taking any medication for a long period of time, however, if you have high blood pressure or a cardiac condition, the dangers to you are far greater if you don't use the medication to keep them under control. However, I cannot provide you any information on those risks, because at this time, long-term trials have not been done. Have you discussed this with your doctor? ## have been taking cardace 10 mg once a day for last 9 years,so far no issue ,but I am eager to know whether p...

I have had high BP for some time, treated with 10 mg Ramipril. The readings have always remained on the high side. Today the GP has prescribed 5mg Amlodipine to be taken in combination with Ramipril. Does anyone have any personal experience of this? Reading the side effects of Amlodipine seems a bit scary. ## Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker and it has about the same risk of causing side effects as the Ramipril that you're already taking. However, the most important fact of relevance is that it's far more dangerous to let your blood pressure remain high than any possible side effects you may experience from a medication. Letting it remain high risks damage to your heart, which may be permanent, it also creates the risk of stroke, heart attack, congestive heart failure and...

Hi, I was recently diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and 3 meds were added to what I already take (I also have MS). I started using a weekly med organizer to mainly keep track of steroid tapering. I forgot to put my Ramipril and didn't realize until I began sweating profusely and headache. I think it was 3 missed days. I have been on this medication for approx 4 years. I take 5mg daily. I am 54 yr old female. Are these symptoms being caused by missed doses or is it something else? ## It is hard to say, it may be due to missing the medication, but it could also be due to some other cause. Have you started taking it, again? If so, has there been any change? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, increased urination, and hypotension. Taking a st...

I'm taking Ramipril,Perindopril and Eplim and have been getting terrible migrane.Headaches ceased when I stopped the Ramipril & Perindopril for two weeks, but I don't know which one caused the migrane and need to go back on them.G.P.not very informative. Can any one help please? ## Well, the first thing I have to question is why your doctor has you on both of them? Both Ramipril and Perindopril are ACE inhibitors, so it is essentially just doubling up on the same medication and that is actually what might have been causing your headache problem. If you have hypertension, or a heart condition that needs to be controlled multiple medications are often used, but not of the same exact class. Have you spoken to your doctor again, yet?

Is this a known side effect of Ramipril? ## According to FDA reports, Ramipril has been known to cause abnormal kidney function, kidney impairment, and acute kidney failure as side effects, along with its more typical ones, such as nausea, headache, dizziness, and hypotension. Ref: Ramipril Information So yes, there's a chance that this medication is causing, or contributing to this issue. Hello, I've been on ramipril for approx 18 years. First 5 mg, then 10 mg; 5 in the a.m. & 5 in the p.m. (When they switched me to generic, 5 mg once a day was just not enough.) For the past few years, I've had a tickling cough at night, so I usually take a cough drop at bedtime so it doesn't wake me up as I doze off to sleep. Do you think this is caused by the Ramipril? Also, can ramipril cause hair loss? ## Are you on any other medications? As to your questions, yes the U.S. FDA warns that it has been known to cause both issues as side effects, in some people that take it. You may also experience dizziness, headache, increased urination, and orthostatic hypotension. Have you informed your doctor? You may need to try a different medication.

I was taking amlodipine 5mg+metoprolol 50mg in the morning and ramipril 5mg in the evening. the heart rate dropped to 52-55/min. I have reduced metroprolol to 25mg since last 5 days. The BP is average 130/85 and heart rate is 58-62. Will it longer to stabilize and heart rate to increase further? Does the present combination of amlodipine 5mg+ metoprolol 25mg in the morning and ramipril 5mg in the evening have any serious side effects? I am 54 yrs old and hypertensive. ## I take Metoprolol 50mg. plus Lisinopril 40mg, plus Hydrochlorathiazide 25mg. together in the morning.
