Ramipril Side Effects

i have been on 12.5mg of ramipril each day for the past 2 and half years. We have now got a new doctor in our practice and he says that it is a too high dosage for me and now has put me on 10mg of ramipril and 5mg of amlodipine. Could the high dosage of rampipril caused anything to me, i have my blood pressure checked every three months and bloods done every six months or can it do anything to me in the future. ## That's actually not a really high dosage, it can go up to 20mgs a day for hypertension. Why did he feel it was too high of a dose, were your blood pressure readings low, while you were taking it? Next question, why is it only being checked every 3 months? I read and came to know that in some patients the use of Ramipril actually increases the blood pressure due to some specific action of kidney emissions (only a minority of the patients), as it is in my case. Can somebody clarify? ## No, it actually causes the opposite effect, in a small percentage of patients that have some impairment to renal function, it can cause them to absorb too much of the medication and suffer from low blood pressure (hypotension). In these cases, they have to use a much lower dosage and their BP must be regularly monitored to make sure it isn't dropping too low. I am taking Ramipril (Winthrop) - 1 x 5mg Tablet – Hypertension and Frusemide - 1 x 40mg Tablet – CCF. My doctor has taken me off Ramipril 10mg and Bisoprolol 1.25 and put me on Perindopril 4mg. The ramipril did not lower my bp but i had few side effects . When the bisoprolol was added it lowered my bp a little but it was still out of control and I got bouts of vertigo and palpatations when the Bisoprolol was added. However as I was on amlodipine for a number of years , that actually kept my bp lower but the side effects gave me no quality of life at all so i would not like to use again. I have had high BP for some time, treated with 10 mg Ramipril. The readings have always remained on the high side. Today the GP has prescribed 5mg Amlodipine to be taken in combination with Ramipril. Does anyone have any personal experience of this? Hi, I was recently diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and 3 meds were added to what I already take (I also have MS). I started using a weekly med organizer to mainly keep track of steroid tapering. I'm taking Ramipril,Perindopril and Eplim and have been getting terrible migrane.Headaches ceased when I stopped the Ramipril & Perindopril for two weeks,but I don't know which one caused the migrane and need to go back on them.G.P.not very informative.Can any one help please? ## Well, the first thing I have to question is why your doctor has you on both of them? Both Ramipril and Perindopril are ACE inhibitors, so it is essentially just doubling up on the same medication and that is actually what might have been causing your headache problem. If you have hypertension, or a heart condition that needs to be controlled multiple medications are often used, but not of the same exact class. Have you spoken to your doctor again, yet?

I had my kidney function tested in February and it was 85. I then started taking Ramipril & by November it had dropped to 69. Hello, I've been on ramipril for approx 18 years. First 5 mg, then 10 mg; 5 in the a.m. & 5 in the p.m. (When they switched me to generic, 5 mg once a day was just not enough.) For the past few years, I've had a tickling cough at night, so I usually take a cough drop at bedtime so it doesn't wake me up as I doze off to sleep. Do you think this is caused by the Ramipril? Also, can ramipril cause hair loss? ## Are you on any other medications? I was taking amlodipine 5mg+metoprolol 50mg in the morning and ramipril 5mg in the evening. the heart rate dropped to 52-55/min. I have reduced metroprolol to 25mg since last 5 days.
