Doctors for pain (Austin area)
Post a Reply
Hi, I have had chronic back pain for years and have seen various doctors for the problem. Most have prescribed either tramadol or hydrocodone along with muscles relaxers sometimes. I've also tried a round of steroids (prednisone) as well as non pharmaceutical options like physical therapy, stretching and light exercise when I can tolerate it in an effort to strengthen my core. Most of these treatments have helped to some degree but the pain inevitably returns (and really many of the medications have only slightly dulled the pain but I still have had difficulty getting through the day even when taking them. So my question is, are there any sympathetic docs in the Austin area (or north like Cedar Park or Leander) who are willing to prescribe stronger pain meds and muscle relaxers anym... ...

Viibryd and severe joint pain
7 Replies RSS
I was on viibryd for a year and a half. Soon after starting the medication (40 mg) I started having aches and pains in my joints but I didn't think anything of it because I had recently had ankle surgery and attributed some of the discomfort from that. As the pain in my joints spread I became more concerned as I have Crohn's disease and there is arthritis that is related to Crohn's disease. So as the pain and inflammation increased I went to see my GI DR. and he felt it was Crohn's Arthritis and started me on Humira. Well this didn't help and the joint pain and inflammation continued to progressively get worse. So I was referred by my primary to a Rheumotologist and was started on heavy doses of Prednisone still with the diagnosis of Crohn's arthritis. This bring... ...

Skin rash, shoulder and arm pain, difficulty swallowing
1 Reply RSS
Hello, my wife began a rash on her hand that spread to the arm and then the other arm, neck, and upper chest. Deep pain and weakness began about 2 weeks into the rash. Doctors were consulted in Comoros where we live, blood tests done. Even the doctors said testing is not good here so we traveled to Nairobi. 2 doctors, several blood tests and meds later she is still not well. Latest doc says muscle infection and prescribed Prednisone and Nexium. We are concerned about steroid side effects. Doc prescribed these because of a CPK level of 616. Thank you for any advice! ## Hello Chris! Who is your wife doing? What did they give her for the infection? Is she on an antibiotic? The steroid can cause some side effects, such as nausea, elevated blood pressure, acne and fluid retention, but usuall... ...

Just a little background I'm a 17 year old thats 131 pounds and a pretty nice down to earth guy. Two days ago I went to the doctor for ear pain, it turns out my ear was swollen and preventing drainage, I was prescribed prednisone (2 20mg tablets each morning, 5 days), along with amoxicillin (2 500mg tablets)and antibacterial ear drops. I took my first dosage this morning about 10 o'clock, my mom called me to ask me how I was doing at around 1 I noticed I was extremely sassy and agitated talking to her but aft that was over things went back to normal. I new that prednisone was a steroid and as a dumb 17 year old I got kinda happy that I might gain muscle, so I looked it up, turns out it is the opposite and it makes you gain weight, honestly I didn't really care about that I w... ...

How are you? I didn't find any problems or interactions listed between these medications, but it's always best to double check to be sure. The FDA classifies Prednisone as a steroid, which may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizzies, headache, nervousness and irritability. The side effects of this antibiotic may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Hydrocodone with Apap is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is t... ...

One day on Lyrica and still suffering months later
1 Reply RSS
My doctor prescribed Lyrica for pain I was having from a back issue, and after one day on this drug my hands, wrists, elbows, knees, ankles and feet were so swollen I could not function. I couldn't even cut my food or walk more than a few steps. Both my wife and I thought I wouldn't live out the month. After being seen by several doctors I was told I was having an acute auto immune response and was put on prednisone. After two months now the swelling is improving and the dosage of steroids is going down, but I still take them or the inflammation returns. This is the first time in my life I have had any bad reaction to any drug. I regret having taken this and hope this condition isn't permanent. ## Jason, Oh my goodness!! Tapering off from 10mg?
2 Replies RSS
I have been on Prednisone for 3 months, taking 10mg a day. It was not for a pain condition, but rather to aid and support pregnancy. Now that I am 12 weeks pregnant, they are tapering me off. I am to go from 10mg to 5mg for a week, then 2.5mg for a week, then cease. I have been reading up on tapering and a LOT of people refer to dropping 1mg at certain intervals. Is going to 5mg then 2.5mg too fast? I'm unsure whether other people who are dropping 1mg do so because they were on a higher dose initially, but I did wonder..... Obviously i do not want to go into adrenal shock, particularly with the pregnanct. But I am also desperate to get off the Prednisone as well and have been counting the days to start tapering down. ## Yes, it really depends on how high of a dose you were on and fo... ...

I found some in my Mom's old stuff too. She was not a veteran, but she did suffer severe cancer pain. So morphine makes sense. ## Hello, I'm so sorry to hear that about your mother, both my mother's parents (my grandparents) passed away from cancer so I can understand what you may be going through. I can't see that you mentioned the color or shape so I just searched for the set of numbers you listed- and I haven't found any morphine pills with that imprint. However, I have identified a white round pill with the imprint" 54 over 092 and a score on the back" as Prednisone (1 mg). The pill you have could be very similar... maybe just a different dosage?
