this may sound a dumb question but is pre gabapentin the same drug as gabapentin ## Hello, Ema! How are you? I think you may be confusing the name of two medications, Pregabalin and Gabapentin. They are both anticonvulsants that are also used to treat some mood disorders and certain types of nerve pain, but they are two different medications. The FDA lists their typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight gain. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hi, I have a similar question. I have had my urine sent to a lab to check for gabapentin. I am wondering will pregabalin turn up the same as gabapentin when sent off? My Australian Shepherd takes this for seizure disorder. He has been prescribed 1 capsule 3 times per day. Because of my work schedule, it's very difficult to dispense 3 times. I know that is optimal, but can I give him one in the morning and 2 at night? ## Unfortunately, no. That's not going to work the same way. The reason it's given spaced over the day is to try to keep a constant level of the medication in his system to prevent the seizures. Do you have a friend or neighbor that may be able to help? ## Hi I was wondering if it works well? And I wanted to know because my husky is doing seizures and I wanted to give her gabapentin but I don't know the disage? how much Does your dog weigh? Thank you

Hi, i've just been prescribed Gabapentin 300mg but was meant to get Pregabalin 300mg. Is there any difference in what they actually do and should I just start to take them or should I call Dr and ask for the Pregabalin??? ## Hello, Wayne! How are you? They are both anticonvulsants that have also been shown to help with certain types of nerve pain and some mood disorders, so they are pretty much interchangeable, but you may not be on the right dosage, since they don't exchange evenly across the board. The FDA lists the typical side effects of them as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been taking the Gabapentin for three months now and initially I saw a great improvement, but not as much anymore. I have noticed if I do not have anything in my stomach when I take them that I feel even worse - dizzy, nauseous, and confused - basically drunk without any of the good feelings of being drunk LOL. But I have also noticed this feeling mildly even when I do have food in my stomach when taking them. This makes driving at all for more than a very short distance unnerving. I am not sure if anything can be done about this or if perhaps I should try a different medication? I am also curious if I can exercise while taking this medication. Is light weight training and cardio okay? My concern is the loss of balance issue at times that I cannot predict at all. I can just see my...

Following knee replacement surgery I was diagnosed 2 x 100mg Gabapentin. Three times a day. After discharge I had to get a renewed prescription and I have now noticed that the Pharmacist has given me 300mg Gabapentin capsules by mistake. This means I have been on 2 x 300mg Gabapentin Three times a day. Is it a coincidence that three days after being discharged after I started the overdose I have developed cellulitis in the lower leg that had the knee replacement? ## Hello, Paul! How are you? Yes, that most likely is a coincidence, since cellulitis is a type of deep tissue infection. Are you on an antibiotic for it? As to your Gabapentin prescription, you should take that one back to the pharmacy and have them correct it. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nause...

I found a pill behind the seat of one of my employee's work trucks. It's a yellowish capsule with a big G on it and the numbers 5027. Should I be concerned? ## This G 5027 pill contains 300mgs of Gabapentin (NDC 59762-5027), which is used in the treatment of persisting pain, shingles; pain; anxiety; peripheral neuropathy; periodic limb movement disorder (and more), and belongs to the drug class gamma-aminobutyric acid analogs. Inactive Ingredients: - Lactose - Starch, Corn - Talc - Gelatin - Titanium Dioxide - Ferric Oxide Yellow - Fd&c Blue No. 2 It is possible your employee is abusing this. I take 30 mgs of baclofen per day and was recently prescribed gabapentin 300mgs 3 x daily. The other day after taking my last dose of gabapentin, I became extremely lethargic and went to sleep. I awoke to my body slamming on the floor as I had rolled out of bed. This has never happened before. Is it the combination of the two meds that caused this? ## Hello, Zim! How are you? The lethargy may be due to the combination of the two. However, I've not heard reports of falling out of bed. It could've been due to very vivid dreaming, which the Gabapentin can sometimes cause. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings and weight changes. Has it happened, again, or just that once? ## Just the one time so far. Thanks...

I found a bottle of my Gabapentin dated 3/8/2011. Should I throw them away or can i take them cause i no longer have insurance? ## This medication does not become dangerous, once expired, but it can lose efficacy, so it may not work as well as it did, when it was new. Thus it would be best to dispose of it and see a doctor for a new prescription. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and weight gain. Been taking doctor prescribed gabapentin for nerve pain for 2 months. I take 2 300mg before bed as it makes me too sleepy and off balance during the day. I am very concerned about internal organ damage. How much water need I drink to flush this drug out of my body quickly? I would appreciate as much information about this as possible. Thank you for your time and reply. ## Hello, Okji! How are you? Water will not help it to process faster, it will still retain the same half-life as always. The trick for kidney health, however, is to make sure you drink enough fluids to keep your kidneys functioning properly and to see your doctor immediately, if you notice any change in urine volume, have difficulty urinating, experience pain or burning while urinating or any other unusual symptoms. Since I started taking gabapentin 300mg 3 times a day. for neuropathic pain in the spine last December I have put on One stone in weight, I have watched my diet carefully but the weight still went on. It helps ease the pain but I can not afford to keep putting on weight..Any suggestions ## Unfortunately, that is a known side effect of Gabapentin, as reported by the FDA. It can also cause others, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and mood swings. You may want to ask your doctor about possibly trying Pregabalin, it is a similar medication, but may not cause you the problem with weight gain. Is there anything else I can help with?

The bottom of both of my feet have a burning sensation especially when I go to bed and I can't sleep. My pain dr. prescribed Gabapentin 300mg (1 before going to bed for a week and then 2 thereafter). I've just started taking it last night and I couldn't get to sleep, tossing off and on all night. My primary dr. prescribed Zolpidem for sleeping which makes me sleep and I don't feel the burning sensation. My question is, can I take both meds before bedtime? ## Continue zolpiden no need to take gabapentin. I think Feeling burning sensation on your foot because of sleeplessness. So continue zolpiden ## Added info.: Dr. that prescribed Gabapentin stated my burning foot sensation is Restless Leg Syndrome. Do you still recommend taking Zolipen rather than Gabapentin? ## Hi Jim,...
