Why would my doctor prescribe gabapentin when my blood pressure is difficult to control? It's 100/150 at times. I was complaining to my Dr that my hands are becoming difficult to control; I drop & throw things. Very miserable not being able to hold a phone, etc. ## I honestly can't say, since blood pressure elevations can be a side effect of it, as reported by the FDA. Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant that can also be used to treat certain types of nerve pain and some mood disorders. Its other typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and weight gain. What other medications do you take regularly? I've been taking 50mg for about a week but my pain has gotten worse. I went to my dr. today and he told me to start taking 150mg. I take trazadone,gabapentin methocarbomol. I'm afraid to take these but can't sleep without them. Do you think I'd be safe to take them? My last dose of nucynta was at 6pm. I'm not experiencing any effects ## Hello, Sandi! How are you? It may cause you to experience more drowsiness and dizziness than usual, combined with the higher dose of the Nucynta, so you should be aware of that.
