What is the allowable payment by Medicare for a15 minute reclast infusion at an outpatient hospital center. My HMO was charged $7000 for the drug and paid 80% leaving a charge to me of 20%. My local pharmacy charges $1200 for a prescription so my question is why the vast difference in price. ## I don't have any information on what the Medicare allowable payment for it is, but I can explain the different in price from the pharmacy to the hospital. When you receive a medication at the hospital you are paying for way more than just the medication. You are paying fees for using their equipment, the time you are taking up space in their center, the salary of the person that's administering it, the IV equipment and you get the picture.
