I am not able to tolerate many meds. Cardiologist had me try all the anticoagulants and all gave me terrible side effects. I've a very understanding electrophisiologist and we decided on an ablation. Post ablation he convinced me to try eliquis. I had the joint pain and GI upset that others have reported but also had burning skin. Doc said it was not a reported side effect but he had two other patients who also complained of burning skin. He advised me to stop the eliquis and said he would report it to the FDA. I have no more A-Fib after the successful ablation and am doing fine on a low dose aspirin daily. Wondering if anyone else had the burning sensation while on eliquis. I am so thankful to have a doctor who listens to his patients. ## Hello, Henrie! How are you doing? I'm v...

I am 67 and have afib. I am put on eliquis, but ever since I have been on eliquis I am having very bad lower back, hip, shoulder, ankle etc. pain!! I will be having an ablation in the very near future. When my heart returns to normal I will stop eliquis. I will be taking Tattokinase. It is a natural enzyme that gets the job done without the side effects. Please reserch about the benefits of nattokinase on the internet and get educated about it; it would take me too long to explain things about it here. And tell your doctor about it, demand that he would look into getting informed about it instead of pushing dangerous pharmaceuticals on you!! Nattokinase is a very effective blood thinner, it is natural with NO side effects. Since no body makes big money from it, it is discouraged by big ...

My mom is experiencing severe knee pain since taking Eliquis. She and doctor have taken her off the medication. How long will it take before she begins to feel relief since discontinuing the drug? ## Hello, Kath1234! How is your mom feeling? How long was she taking it? Depending on the length of time and dosage, it may take anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks, before it eases off and she starts to feel better. The FDA lists the other typical side effects of Xarelto as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. ## Thank you for the information! She is still hurting. I will let her know about how long it can take. It is scary for her. A chance of a Blood Clot or not being able to walk. ## My mom is doing 100% better since going off Eliquis. I was having extreme fatigue, joint pain, muscle weakness after starting Eliquis and started to having black stool with nausea and abdominal pain. I gradually reduced the dose until no longer taking Eliquis nor ever will. It really put a fear in me. Asprin works for me via my AFIB. I can tell if my blood is too thick when my heart is working hard to pump the blood out of my heart. I feel much better when my heart is pumping normally when the blood is thinner. You sometimes have to insist to your doctor the side effects you are feeling, this is a fairly new medication. Anyone else have these side effects? ## Yes, you are not the first person to post about these types of problems with it. If the Aspirin is working well for you, then it is likely a good idea to stick with it, unless your d...

I got a DVT blood clot resulting from a severe ankle injury 7almost months ago. I had a procedure to clear up the problem. Also, I was on eliquis for six months. Two and a half weeks ago I got an ultrasound and my doctor said it was cleared up and time to get off the eliquis. He told me to take 325mg of asprin in the morning for the next six months witch I have been doing. The pain I had in the back of my knee and in my quadricept muscle is back with a vengeance. Is this normal? ## It is hard to say, it could be rebound effects from stopping the Eliquis, according to NIH studies, but there is also a chance you may have developed another clot. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change? What type of procedure was done? Are you on any other medications?

After a single AFib event, I was put on Eliquis. I almost immediately developed severe shoulder pain in both shoulders, so doctor changed to Xarelto. Same problem. I am not currently taking a blood thinner, only a daily aspirin, because of the side effects. One shoulder returned to normal, but the other one continues to hurt. Had never had any problem with shoulder pain before taking these medications. ## Is Aspirin the only medication you are currently taking? The FDA warns that it may cause side effects, such as nausea, increased risk of bleeding, stomach irritation, and headache. ## Yes, the only blood thinner. Take a baby aspirin.

I have severe lactose intolerance and I have been taking eliquis for 6 weeks. I have developed eextreme chest and upper abdomen pain......I was also, for abrief time, on verapamil 240 mg. EKG and doc says not a heart issue. Any thoughts on this? ## Hello, Hummingbird! How are you? I am very sorry that you're so miserable, that's terrible. It sounds like it might be causing an acidity problem, most medications can do that. What have you tried for alleviating it? Those symptoms tend to occur with GERD. Eliquis has been known to cause some gastrointestinal bleeding, which leads me to suspect that it can cause severe internal irritation and possibly erosion. Other side effects may include dizziness, skin rash, headache, confusion and fainting. What type of doctor are you consulting?...

A general sense of early aging that is unpleasant. Anyone else with these symptoms? ## Hi Larry, Based on my research, the following symptoms are listed as serious side effects of Eliquis (apixaban) that should be reported to your doctor immediately: -numbness, tingling, or muscle weakness (especially in your legs & feet) -loss of movement in any part of your body. -joint pain or swelling Do you think that the muscle tightness could possibly be related to any of the side effects mentioned above? Have been taking Eliquis 5 mg 2x day for almost 3 months. Seem to be having Stomach Pain, Abdominal Swelling, Bloating, Gas, Facial Swelling and lots of weight gain and water retention. Also brain fog and memory problems. (It's hard to tell how much of this is from Eliquis and how much from CHF associated with A-Fib. Also taking Beta Blocker and Digoxin.) Eliquis has been out long enough for the pharmaceutical company (BMS) to put out a REVISED list of side-effects, to reflect real-life patients' experiences. Wonder if they have done so, or when they'll do so? Am probably going to switch to Xarelto and stop the Eliquis, in hopes that the Xarelto will cause fewer problems. ## You might want to rethink that decison, Afibber. Here is what the pharmacists say: Examining the Comp...

I am on Eliquis as a treatment for a DVT in my right leg I incurred 10 days ago. I took 2 pills twice a day as prescribed for 7 days and have taken 1 pill twice a day (5 mg) for 2 days but am feeling woozy and somewhat dizzy about 2 hours after taking the recommended dosage. Can I reduce the dosage to 1 5mg pill a day instead of 2 pills a day? The swelling and pain in my leg has decreased considerably. I'm wearing a leg calf stocking which helps. Mike B (age 67, 200 lbs) ## You should take the dosage that your doctor has instructed you to take, unless they advise otherwise. This medication can cause dizziness as a side effect, according to the FDA, you may also experience nausea, headache, and easy bruising. They are typically transient and should go away, once your body gets used t...

I have been on Eliquis for 3 years, after having a blood clot from back surgery. Also have Afib. I have pain all over...back pain, fibro, nerve pain. Terribly sore all time. Seems like it all became worse after I started taking Eliquis. Sometimes urine smells like motor oil. Don’t know if it’s Eliquis but I suspect it is. I have recently felt like I have some kind of arthritis. Just debilitating pain all the time. Wish I knew if it was caused by Eliquis! ## I was misdiagnosed with a blood clot in my calf. I take Eliquis. Side effects: I have Periphial neuropathy, thinning hair atrophy of mucus in arms, weak legs, depression, insomnia, bad balance, bruise easily, dry skin, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, stiffness in morning, pain in legs in the morning. ## According to FDA reports, it has been known to cause some of these symptoms as side effects, such as the pain, high blood pressure, and easy bruising, but not most of the others. Are you on any other medications? How long have you been taking it? It's really impossible to say how any given medication will actually affect anyone that tries it, since we are all different.
