Person on this is allergic to sulfur. Is this drug safe for them? drug in question is nitrofurantoin Monoh ## Hi Bertha, Nitrofurantoin "is not" a sulfa based drug, as opposed to other antibiotics like Bactrim. This medication was given to me because I continued getting urine infections after intercourse and nothing else was working for me. I was given this medication to take one pill after intercourse, just one time. I have to say that for the past two years I have never gotten another UTI. This medication is great. I love it. i use these pills for kindey inffection if i stop usin them wat will happen ## If you don't finish the full course of an antibiotic, there is a definite risk that the bacteria that caused the infection will not be eradicated and will develop into antibiotic resistant bacteria. Such 'super' bacteria can make you very ill and will be much, much harder to eradicate with other antibiotics. Yes, the general rule with antibiotics is that if if they are working, there should be no worsening of the infection after a full 24 hours of taking them and you should see improvement after 3 full days of taking it. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-alelrgic skin rash and diarrhea. I am 15 weeks pregnant I was put on this medication for a UTI 2 capsules a day for 7 days I took 3 doses and didn't think much about mood changes because of being pregnant, after 4th dose I experienced severe vomiting, at the same time my nose was gushing blood, and I became extremely confused and unable to speak anything that made sence, I read possible side effects some included unusual bleeding confusion mood or mental changes severe vomiting. I am taking this medication for a UTI. I have been on it for a day and a half. This morning I was suddenly wakened by a loud sound in my ears (sounded like birds chirping), and a stinging pain across my face, down my spine into my arms and legs - worse on my left side than on my right. I started taking this medication on Fri a week ago. I took my last pill thursday morning. the incision scar from my knee replacements are all red and inflamed. My knees feel warm.
