I am currently taking 15 mg of morphine er twice daily and have been for 4 months now for chronic severe back pain. I have been noticing the last 2 weeks that it's not working as well. Is it safe to take 2 at once? ## Hello, Crystal! How are you? No, you shouldn't adjust your dosage, without your doctor's approval. That could be too much for you to take and may cause a dangerous overdose. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. The best thing to do would be to contact your doctor, inform them of the problem and then see what they advise. Is there anything else I can help with?

i want to reduce dependence on pain meds (6 yrs. so my Doc ordered me morphine sulphate 10 mg capsules instead of the MS 15 mg ER. Insurance won't approve the change due to cost & now while the Doc & insurance are arguing about it I'm running out of MS tonite. Doc hasn't called back. I do have some 5/325 hydrocodone but not sure how much to take in lieu of the MS 15 ER. ## Have you had any luck, yet? I know how frustrating it is, when your insurance is controlling your treatment, rather than your doctor. The FDA warns that Morphine carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. Ref: Morphine Information

Hi I always run out of my Pain Medication 1 day before my next appointment I already feel like I'm having withdrawals in only one day. I have Morphine ES 15mg would this help me until I see the doctor. ## Hello, Jeff! How are you? What medication do you usually take and why are you running out early? Morphine may help, but it depends on what you've been taking, some opiates are stronger than it is. The FDA classifies it as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

What is the difference between 15 mg morphine and 15 mg morphine er ## Hello, Renee! How are you? The ER designates that one as being time released, so the dose is slowly released over a period of 12 hours, the one without such a designator is a regular release pill, so the complete dose is released within about 15 to 20 minutes of taking it. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I'm on Morphine sulf 60mg ER 1 table every 12 hours plus Fentora 400 MCG Buccal tablet 1 every 6 hours. I'm ran out of the Morphine Sulf and none of the farmacy have it on stock. Now I'm with a lot of pain, I think because I'm getting the morphine out of my system, but I do have at home Oxycodone 15 MG. Do you know if I can substitute the morphine for the Oxycodone safely until I get the Morphine back within 2 days. Also if I take the Oxycodone can I still take the Fentora safely. I will not take it together, but like I take Oxycodone now and within one hour it's the time for Fentora. ## Hi, Santa! Sorry about the problem that you're having finding your medication. And yes, a sudden withdrawal from the Morphine can cause a rebound effect, which could cause worse p...

I just went to a new pain dr. For 8 years I was on OxyContin 30mg. My insurance wouldn't pay so I was switched to 30 mg ms continue er. This worked fine. All with 5/325 Hydrocodone up to 4 daily for breakthrough. Within the last four months the old Doctor switched to 30mg IRR without telling me why the change. I think just mixed up. Actually it worked basically the same with the breakthrough meds. Now new doc changed to MS Contin er generic with same amount of breakthrough melds. I haven't started yet but am worried it won't work as well. Help ## Since it is a lower dose, it may not manage your pain as well and you may also experience some withdrawal symptoms. As listed by the FDA, withdrawal symptoms may possibly include nausea, dizziness, fever, chills and diarrhea. Is the...

Has anyone out there taken this drug twice a day and had persistent nausea??? I thought I'd adjust to the nausea, but it's persistent. Anyone got any advice for me to help with this persistent nausea.? I'm also weak and sleepy. ## Hello Betty, According to the [1] NIH, nausea and vomiting is the most common side effect of this medication, greater than 10% of users who administered this medication experienced these adverse reactions. Good news is other users who have taken this medication say that it gets better with time, but the bad news is I couldn't find any medical documentation that states how long on average this time frame is. I feel like if you have these symptoms so often that it's become a problem for your way of life it would be best to discuss it with you...

Is this really good for my back? What else is it good for? What is the average price for a prescription to be filled? ## I can't really tell you if this will help you or not. Pain medications can affect everyone differently, whereas some people get great results from taking it, but there are others that it just doesn't work for. Unfortunately, the only way to find out is to actually try it. To answer your other question, Morphine is a narcotic pain reliever used to treat moderate to severe pain. I wouldn't suggest trying to use it for any other purpose outside of that. Did your doctor just give you a prescription for it without saying a word? ## I have stage 4 cancer I've been taking Vicodin 500 mg 6 times a day now I switch to 15 mg of morphine and I feel horrible don...

Can you take Morphine Sulfate ER 15mg with Adderall? I'm scared as hell!... My Dr. pushed the Morphine on me over taking just Hydrocodone 10/325... & this concerns me :/ ## My doc insisted on switching me from 5-325 Norco to Morphine Sulfate as well, and it was the WORST thing that's happened to me, EVER. He felt that it was best to switch to the supposedly long-acting Morphine rather than increase my dose of Norco (I had been on the lowest possible dose of Norco--5-325--for about EIGHT years, so this would have been the very first dosage increase in all those years. It's certainly not like I had kept asking for more pills or bigger doses or anything but none the less, he felt it was better to switch to Morphine instead of slightly increasing the Norco.) Morphine is SUBS...

If I've drank a substantial amount of alcohol and have taken one 15mg pill of Morphine Sulphate, how dangerous is it? ## Hello, The combination of alcohol and morphine is extremely dangerous, NO amount of alcohol is safe with morphine. Both alcohol and morphine depress the Central Nervous System, and the combination can be fatal. Call your doctor or seek emergency medical attention at once if you have symptoms of extreme drowsiness, pinpoint pupils, confusion, cold and clammy skin, weak pulse, shallow breathing, fainting, or breathing that stops. I've been prescribed an extended-release version of morphine sulfate and I've released I'm not sure how the extended release works. I take one 15 mg pill per day. I guess I thought the extended release meant that I would be getting the benefit of 15 mg of pain relief all day long, at an given moment. But does the ER version simply take that 15 mg and divide it up over the space of 24 hours? 15 divided by 24...that would mean at any given hour, I'd only have 0.62 (less than a milligram) in my system, which is substantially less than 15 mg of relief in any given hour. Can anyone clarify this for me? ## Hello, Groa! How are you? Yes, the tablet contains 15mgs total of Morphine that is slowly released over time. However, generally, the constant release of even small amounts ...

I have been being treated for chronic pain off and on for years. Recently i've been on the fentanyl 75 mcg every 3 days and the morphine 15 mg at 4 x daily. Well recently i was having extreme pain from my lower back buttocks and down my legs to the point i couldn't walk so my reg physician thought it was trauma from my sciatic nerve so she referred me to a doctor that is a neurologist named Dr Sawhney in Crain Towers, well before i even had a chance to go to her i had to go to the ER which they agreed with the sciatic nerve. I could not even walk into her office and she didn't even take the time to look at my diagnoses or my list of the different things i suffer from. All she did was see that i was on the pain meds and told me i was a drug addict and that all i needed was de...

Yes, they would consider those to be equivalent, because they are both regular release and intended to treat breakthrough pain, so it's generally thought that both wouldn't be needed. Which medication is stronger: 15 mg Morphine ER or 10/325 Oxycodone or Hydrocodone 10/325 ## They are very similar. My doctor has put me on and we've tried to figure out what works. best. I get 10mg Norco & 20mg Oxycodone, and I alternate, it REALLY helps!!! (I have a LOT of medical issues.) ## @birdie, I think as post #1 suggested, you pretty much just have to work with your doctor to find out what best suits your level of pain. Some people debate that oxycodone is a step up from hydrocodone. I think the answer may vary with each individual based on personal preference. And as far as comparing morphine ER to immediate release oxycodone, there's probably no easy way to determine an equivalent dose since one is being slowly released...However if it's of any help, the foll...

I am going on a trip and would love to enjoy a few drinks with friends. My pain specialist had me on 40 mg Opana ER and 15 mg Morphine Sulfate IR for 8 years. I had to find another doctor and starting next week I will be taking 30 mg Oxymorphone ER every 12 hours and 10 mg Oxycodone IR up to 3 per day. I have been out of my break thru pain med for 2 days now and my pain level averages 9 to 10 every day so I have taken 5 mg valium, Tylenol #3 with codine and a baclofen to stop me from going into withdrawal.
