my 5yr starts risperdal next week..i would like to know all the sie defects & more information about this drug..thank you! ## Hi Allison, I am a psychotherapist and a holistic practitioner. I am also a mother of two toddlers. Please do a lot of investigation before giving your 5 yr. old such powerful mind altering medication. The medical community is still unclear about the long term effects of mind altering drugs on the developing brain. Basically, we don't know how these drugs are going to change your child brain when it is still growing. In this day and age children are being more diagnosed with bipolar disorder. We don't know why this is the case but before we jump into medicating them we should try alternative routs that are not as invasive. Is your child in therapy? Ha...
