What does Take 1 Tablet by Mouth Three Times A Day mean? Should I take it every 8 hours? ## Hello, Jackie! How are you? I'm sorry about the confusion, but I'm happy to clear it up for you. If it doesn't specifically say to take one every 8 hours, then 3 times a day is upon waking/or with breakfast, a lunch time and another a bedtime. Though, you should double check with your doctor to be sure. This medication is classified by the FDA as being a beta blocker that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. Typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, increased urination and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?

blood pressure ## Metoprolol Tartrate Click Here ## I have been taking Metoprolol Tartrate 25mg, twice a day since my heart operation in 2006. Throughout this time I had "occassional" dizziness. However, this past April I nearly fully collasped while walking in my house. Thinking it was my heart, I spent 3 days in the hospital and was tested "head to foot" and no problems were found. Since that time I would have "passing out" symtons while walking , and would completly stop, and it would disappear. This was happeing frequently. In May I passed out while standing. On June 1 dosage was dropped to 25mg ONCE a day. I am now fine ## I am currently taking clonidine 1 mg once a day, Metropol 100 mg 2x a day, and nifipine 90 mg once a day. I have been taking metropolol 25 mg 2x/day for years. My tablet has been oval shaped with what looks like an "m" then a center score and a script looking "B" under that when the pill is held upright. My latest refill is round with "M 18" and the other side is center scored. Are these the identically same medices? It is so difficult with so many generic medicnes being white tablets. It is scary wondering if you get the same medicines. ## Hello, Diana! How are you? Sorry about the confusion and yes, you're right, it can be quite confusing. But yes, the tablet with the M 18 marking on it does contain 25mgs of Metoprolol, which is a beta blocker that's most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and some cardiac conditions. I take a half a pill in the morning after breakfast and half after dinner. Is taking the half after dinner okay? ## It is, as long as your doctor approves and has told you to take 25mgs a day. In most cases, they prescribe it to be taken once a day, due to the fact that it makes more likely that someone will remember to take it and not miss doses. However, in some cases, it does work better for some people to take such medications in split doses. I found that I get much better control of my blood pressure and heart rate by spacing my doses throughout the day. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?

My blood pressure is 110/70, Why did my MD order Metropolol Tartrate 25mg.? ## 110/70 sounds like a reading within the normal blood pressure range. I'm not sure why you would have been prescribed Metoprolol (since it is typically used to treat high blood pressure). What did your doctor say with regards to why it has been prescribed to you? Is Metoprolol Tartrate 25 mg the same as Metoprolol ER 25 mg ? ## No, if it does not have something such as an ER, SR, XR or CR following the medication name, then it is not necessarily that same thing. Those abbreviations all signify that the medication is a controlled release formulation and one that does not have it is just the regular release formulation of the medication. However, if you received one, in place of the other, at your pharmacy, you should ask them to double check, as it may just have been a typing or printing error.

I was put on metoprolol about 3 weeks ago for hypertension and an ascending aortic aneurysm. I also have PVCs. I take 25 MG every 12 hours. My BP is better but not great. Some readings are normal and most are high (130/90-5 range) I have noticed more heart palpitations since taking it instead of less. I am having intermittent episodes of chest tightness and breathing being more labored. Also have a cough. Feels like a mild asthma attack. In the past, I would get exertional asthma with heavy exercise or laughing. My sleep is worse for waking up with a cough, palpitations, anxiety, or chest heaviness. I also have been hoarse and have a tickle in the back of my throat (postnasal drip?) Are these typical side effects? Do they warrant a reduction in my dosage? I see my cardiologist on Monday...

Is Metoprolol Tartrate 25 mg tab drug ID white round with M 18 the same as Metroprolol tartrate 25 mg white round tab /1 the same medicine? One pill is twice as big as the other and I don't understand how they could be the same? ## Yes, it is also 25mgs of Metoprolol, a generic for Lopressor. The reason it is larger is more than likely just due to the types of fillers that manufacturer uses, they do have a wide variety they can pick from and they will affect the size of the tablets. Some of the most common side effects of this medication include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and diarrhea. You can read more about the medication here: Is there anything else I can help you with? ## where can I buy this?

United Healthcare is raising the copay on this ptescription and recommending Metoprolol tartrate, . arvedilol or atenolol. Titled subject is $45 in 2012 vice $3. for alternatives. I took Metoprolol tartrate tabs 50 mg,mfg by greenstone, is this the same drug? ## The 25mg would be a lower dosage and the ER designates the 25mg one as being a time released formulation. Metoprolol is a beta blocker used to treat high blood pressure and cardiac conditions, Did your doctor make this change in the dosing and formulation? Such changes shouldn't be made, without your doctor's approval, because sudden changes to the dosing of this medication may cause rebound effects, which could include elevated heart rate and blood pressure.

My mother has been taking metoprolol tartrate for 2 years. Six to eight weeks ago she started experiencing hallucinations(seeing things that are not real,) at night after taking the pill. She called her doctor but the doctor told her to break the pill in half, which is going from 50 to 25 mgs. I am afraid she will have an episode while driving. Is there another medication equilvalent to what she is taking. Should the doctor have taken her off of the medicine. ## Hello, Barbara! How is your mother doing? Hallucinating is not a typical side effect of this medication and has only been reported in a few rare cases where someone was taking the extended release formulation. There are other medication options, such as Labetalol, which is known to cause far fewer side effects. Has she contacted...
