my grandaughter has been on methadone drink for five years now and her teeth are rotting away terribly fast. Is there another way she can take this drug? ## Hello, Verlie! How are you and your granddaughter? There are other forms available, such as tablets, but that won't likely help the problem. Opiates are all well known for causing dental decay, with long-term use, because they can cause mineral loss in the body. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Has she consulted a dentist? A cleaning and sealant may help slow down the decay.

been with same pm dr. for 4 years has recently retired and now have no dr or meds combination of fentanyl patch 75mcgs and 4 10 mg methadone tablets a day worked wonders for me 0 pain level now I have to start all over really scared of withdrawalsWL ## Withdrawal does have the potential of being very dangerous, thus I'd advise you to seek emergency medical assistance if it happens and you find yourself showing any severe withdrawal symptoms. Did your doctor not refer you to another doctor for assistance? Are there any other pain management clinics in your area? What is your general location? If you can post back with that information, someone may be able to suggest a good doctor in your area.

Am on methadone 5mg daily now doctor wants me to take butrans patch for severe back and nerve pain. Can i take them both or will i get sick? How long do i have to stop methadone before starting the butrans patch? ## Hello, Lily! How are you? No, you usually can't take anything else with the Butrans, because the Buprenorphine in it tends to cling stronger to your opiate receptors and prevent other opiates from having any effect. And unless your doctor has specified otherwise, you need to be in full withdrawal from the Methadone, before starting the Butrans, otherwise, it may throw you into dangerous precipitated withdrawals due to the way it takes over the opiate receptors. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may...

I want to know if I use the patch and then take methadone, will I go into withdrawal? ## Hello, Spooky! How are you? The danger here is actually due to the fact that they tend to increase the effects of each other, which could be very dangerous and may cause a fatal overdose, thus they should not be taken together, or close together, unless your doctor specifically tells you to do so. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

How are you? How about one of the time released narcotic patches? Both Duragesic and Butrans are available, they are very potent and basically skip the internal processing step. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## To by pass the digestive process of the pain meds, you can go the way of the pain pump...

Is a 25mil fentanyl patch as strong as 40 mil of methadone? ## From what I've read online, fentanyl is reportedly much stronger than methadone. But because the forms of administration are two worlds apart (one being a transdermal patch and the other being a pill), I honestly don't think there's such thing as an "equivalent dose" between the two; especially since each medication effects people differently. Have you talked with your doctor yet about trying one or the other? ## I am taking 50 fentanyl patches but waiting for 3 days in between them is no good and I am now replacing the patches every 2nd day but the hours are different. The Notes for Patients are a scream. Says they don't even have an effect for the first 24 hours!!! That after removal of one the skin...

I am currently on 54 ml. of Ordine 10, 150 mg Fentanyl patch, and 80 mg Targin, equivalent to about 1,200 mg of morphine a day. My pain specialist wants me to change to methadone or suboxone. What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance. ## Hello, Allan! How are you? Most people have said that Suboxone didn't do much for their pain, so if you need pain relief, you might be better off with the Methadone. I've never taken either one myself, I am just stating what I've learned from other posters on this site. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Does anyone else have any advice to offer? ## I really strongly suggest having nothing to do with Methadone...

I've been on 150mg methadone for the last 10 yrs or so. NOW bc of new federal REGS, they have me on 30 mg methadone per day plus two 10mg oxymoron for breakthrough pain. Can someone suggest a medicine that might work around the clock and meet federal mme limits? Thank you so much... In pain in Alabama.... HELP IS APPRECIATED! ## Hello, Ferrell! How are you? One possible option you could discuss with your doctor is the Fentanyl patch, they are time released and usually last from 48 to 71 hours, it is an opiate that is over 80 times stronger than Morphine. The FDA classifies it as narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Does anyone else have any ideas or suggestions? ...

I've been taking 30mg of Methadone for a few months. I've had 3 severe back surgeries and started taking the Methadone until I could get into pain management. I had a medial nerve block yesterday and I also only took 10mgs of Methadone yesterday, too. The pain Dr. wrote me the Butrans 5mcg/hr patch. It's Buprenorphine, i suppose like Subutex without Naloxone. I'm in a lot of pain today, but scared that if I apply the patch i will go into withdrawal. Please help if anyone truly knows what's best. ## Well, i took 10 mg the day of my medial nerve block, they gave me some xanax for future cervical blocks. It had been 30hrs no methadone, so I applied the 5mcg/hr block along with a flexeril and 2mg xanax and slept. Got some sweats, don't feel the greatest this morning,...

Does Methadone work well for Neuropathy in the hands & mouth? I'm in need of pain management in Tyler, Tx or around east Texas. ## How do you administer the methadone? Is it in pill form? I have taken both pill form & liquid form, but the liquid form doesn't help pain and was not helping much. It even says that in PDR. I had a Dr that gave me methadone 10mg qid. I am a retired nurse. I have chronic pain from 3 places in my nerves, cervex, and lower gum area. My nerve pain stems from my fingers. I have peripheral neuropathy which is no fun now, cause I can tell where the nerve is. I have had Rxs from different Drs mostly in Dallas. I also had a patch, but brutran patches cost $700 if you have to pay for them. I never did because I have insurance now, but I have medicare ...

Can I mix lamictal and methadone safely ## Hello, King! How are you? I didn't find any problems or interactions listed between these two medications, but it's always best to double check to be sure. The FDA classifies Methadone as an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Lamictal is an anticonvulsant and mood stabilizer, which may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, weight gain, runny nose and cough. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Is the Suboxone patch ok with methadone for breakthrough Spain. The patch is 5 mg and the methadone is 90 mg daily in liquid form.

Is it wise to go from Hydromorphone to Methadone? Looking for more pain relief. I have a tolerance to Hydromorphone now I think. Thanks all in advance! Have taken Hydromorphone for 6 years ## Hello, Kat! How are you? Methadone should actually be a last resort, because it is highly habit forming, even if you only take it as prescribed, it can very difficult to ever stop taking and some people end up having to remain on it for life. There are other medications available that are stronger than the Hydromorphone, such as Fentanyl, which is available in a time released patch, so you may want to speak to your doctor about trying it. The FDA classifies Fentanyl as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness...

I have been on Methadone for about 5 years. I had an addiction to oxycontin and the went on methadone to quit. My highest dose was 120mg and I have managed to wean myself down to 17mg. The problem is I am having a really hard time getting off of it. Doing some reading I have learned that methadone is one of the worst for trying to quit. I have a perscription for 12mcg/h fentanyl for back pain which I havent been using but was thinking about quiting the methadone and using the patch instead so when I eventually drop it the withdraws won't be as bad. Has anyone tried this? is 12mcg enough? Any other thoughts or advice? ## I'm sending only a suggestion for you and that is......
