My very overly active 3 year old had trouble sleeping and around September of 2011 I took him to a sleep specialist and she prescribed colodine. It worked great. But then he went to see a neurologist and the neurologist wasn't to happy he was on colodine and wants to take him off colodine slowly and fully take amitriptyline only. It's 10mg. What are some of the things I can expect? Will it help him sleep well and have less aggression during the day? ## Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant, but the only way to see if it helps him is to try it. Side effects can include: nausea, dizziness, weight changes and dry mouth. You can learn more about the medication here: Did you discuss you concerns with the doctor?

Changed pharmacies today and received the 10mg amitriptyline in blue. The first month I used this from the previous pharmacy the pill was pink. Is there any difference in the two? ## Put, pictures of amitriptyline 10mg, in Google. You should see a link to pictures. They do come in pink and blue and other colors. ## @Frankie, If you get them filled from a licensed pharmacy, odds are that the two medications contain the same active ingredients and dosage, but may have different binders/fillers. If you happen to know the pill imprint you can either look it up online or post it here for reference. However, in my own findings, a round blue pill marked with V 2101 reportedly contains 10mgs of Amitriptyline made by Qualitest. And you can view a photo of it by clicking the following National Dr...

Hi, I have been depressed for 5 years, almost 6 now. My illness has been very resistant to medical treatment. I have tried a variety of antidepressants and had no results. Now I have been on 150mg of amitriptyline for half a year. It has been THE WORST medication for me. This one has made my suicidal thoughts and overall depression even worse! I can feel my mood drop significantly when I miss a dose, and tapering off this medicine has been a nightmare. I recently saw my psychiatrist yesterday. We made a plan to slow down the tapering process by going down 10mg a week. Last night was my first dose of 140mg, and I really cannot tel if it is just the natural course of my overall illness or if it is making me worse again. Or what if it's just the medicine in general? I don't know if...

I started taking amitriptyline HCL 10MG 5 years ago. I would now like to wean myself off of the pills. How to I decrease the dosage and how long will it take before I am free from any problems. Grace ## Hello, Grace! How are you? It would be best to get medical assistance with doing so. However, the modern preferred method is usually to have a patient start to skip doses, while also gradually lowering how much they take. As listed by the FDA, possible withdrawal effects may include nausea, fever, chills, diarrhea, rebound depression and rebound anxiety. It's hard to say how long it will take to be free of issues, you've been on it for years, so it could take a month, or so. There are a number of warnings about the possible side effects of taking Amitriptyline - some people get one or more, others none at all. In my case I suffered a migraine on and off every twenty four hours for very many years. About 15 years ago I was prescribed this drug (10mg daily) to ease the symptoms and frequency and initially it seemed to make little difference but I have not had a migraine now for some six years - whether it is the Amitriptyline or something else no-one can tell me, but I have continued to take them all this time. The effects of taking them long term appear not to be known, but I am, quite naturally, unwilling to stop in case the migraines return. I have also been very fortunate in that I have had no side effects at all ever since I started taking them. I am jus...

I was prescribed 10mg amitryptilyine for migraine prevention. It seems to be helping with the migraines, however, I feel very tired all day and my eyes have bags under them and feel so tired all the time. It has been well over a month since I've started this and the side effects do not seem to be subsiding. Any suggestions?? I love the fact I'm not having the migraines but the side effects I can't handle much longer. ## Hello! How are you? This medication is a tricyclic antidepressant and it can cause REM onset latency, which means you don't enter the REM phase of sleep as fast as normal and spend less time in it than normal, so your sleep isn't as restful.
