I was just given Lyrica for my Neuropathy and Fibromyalgia. I start it tonight and will keep posted on how it does for me. My doctor said it would not hurt any drugs I am now on, which is a lot. And the side effects would be sleepiness. ## My brother was just diagnosed with fibromyalgia and this is what they put him on. My wife and I are waiting to see what the results will be as we both have the same illnessand our appointments for our doctor isn't for a while. We will be waiting for your results along with his to see if this turns out to be the medication we've been looking for. Of course, we know that meds can work differently for different people. Good luck and God Bless! ## My Dr. Put me on Lyrica for nerve pain that runs across my back and down both legs. It makes me sleep...

I take 200 mg Lyrica twice a day for pain associated with Neurofibromatosis. Seems to help but my wife won't come near me. Says my breath is stinky. Not what a husband wants to hear. Have tried all types of oral solutions so problem doesn't seem to be in the mouth. Wonder if Lyrica is to blame since bad breath is a side effect. I'm considering going back to Gabapentin and putting up with the increased pain. Anybody have a similar problem or solution. ## I haven't heard of this before, but I can't say that I am surprised. Drugs can affect everyone differently. Rather than going back to a drug that makes you deal with more pain, you might want to talk to your doctor first, they may be able to help you find a different solution. ## Thanks for the quick reply. I will do ...

i need to know if this drug is a narocotic drug cause i don;t want to take drugs that is ## I don't know I just like being involved in stuff I don't know anything about!!! ## Do you know that lyrica works by destroying the nerves and/or neurons. I am an ex-nurse and ex-respiratory therapist. Do you know what your brain is made of? Nerves and neurons. Lyrica destroyed my short memory and caused me to lose my job of 29 years at a hospital. It has been 8 years since I last took it and I still have memory loss. This is a very dangerous drug. You who are on it be careful. There is more to this drug than weight gain. ## Lyrica is NOT a narcotic. But, they do advise people who have had a drug or alcohol problem 2 b careful taking it. ## Lyrica contains the active ingredient Pregabalin,...

I'm on 600mg Lyrica. But don't feel the effects. I'm diagnosed by Neurologist as having Chronic Daily Headache What's wrong with the meds? ## Lyrica is not actually a straight analgesic, like a narcotic or NSAID, so you are not going to feel the same effects, as you would from something such as Oxycodone, or Acetaminophen, which are straight analgesics. Lyrica contains the active ingredient Pregabalin, which is actually an anticonvulsant and, by the very way it works on brain chemicals, it has also been shown to help with some forms of nerve pain. However, not being a straight analgesic, it's not going to have the same effects that they do and it doesn't work as fast, it actually takes about 4 to 6 weeks to reach its full efficacy in your body. AARP is not an organization looking out for seniors and getting savings on drugs. AARP should have the following information at their fingertips and I have brought it to their attention in 2 separate emails. Pfizer has revised their patient income limit. The new limits are $47,080 annualy for a single person. If your income is below that level you can get drugs like Celebrex, Lyrica and others for FREE. Previously, my prescription for Lyrica and Premarin put me in the donut hole by March. Now, since I get them FREE directly from Pfizer I am nowhere near the donut hole. Pfizer is a great company looking out for seniors. AARP should be ashamed to themselves for not getting this information out to their subscribers.l Go on the site Pfizer Pathways and you will get all the info you need to ...

I have been taking 50 mg of Lyrica 3 xs a day for about 8 years. I understand there is finally a generic Pregabalin available. Has anyone taken the generic? I was getting my Lyrica for free through Pfizer but now that there is a generic Pfizer will no longer give me Lyrica and I will have to pay for it. ## That is normal, once the generic is available, a manufacturer will usually end their assistance program for any given medication. I was on Atacand for several years, and then had to switch, once a generic became available, and the program ended, because at that time, I was uninsured, and still couldn't afford the generic price, which was over $100 a month. The generic for Lyrica, which as you mentioned is Pregabalin, is as effective as the name brand, and has helped many people. T...

If lyrica is affecting nerve pain and maybe even destroying the nerves slowly what is it doing to our brains? ## Hello, Mary! How are you? It doesn't destroy nerves. Where did you hear that? It works by affecting the synapses in the brain that respond to pain signals, it prevents them from reacting and overreacting to stimuli. It is actually an anticonvulsant that was later found to help with mood disorders and nerve pain. Its side effects may include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and weight changes. Are there any other questions or concerns?

Has anyone gained weight using lyrica as a back pain killer ## Hello, Mike! How are you? Lyrica is actually not a pain killer. It contains the active ingredient Pregabalin, which is an anticonvulsant, it's been found to help with some types of nerve pain, due to the way it acts on brain chemicals and yes, weight gain is a normal side effect of these types of medications. Learn more Lyrica details here. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and mood swings. Are there any other questions or concerns? ## As I said just on other thread regarding weight gain with Lyrica I never found it to put unwanted weight on myself the years I was on it for Neurolgia, it does work for many other areas other than Epilepsy as it is an anti-convulstant as you've already stated ...

Hi all. I've been taking 300mg of lyrica for 7 mo. which has been a miracle for my spine nerve damage however I have become completely stupid (no memory) and have developed neurovascular eye disease. Anyone else have this? Sorry for the post not being very clear lol as I said I'm brain dead! I almost forgot to mention the rash. I've developed a rash on my right calf only. I've been to a lot of drs an all my blood work has been normal. I KNOW it's the Lyrica. I can't stop though. When I stopped taking it I was literally bedridden. The Lyrica helps so much with the pain that I've decided the side effects are worth it, at least I can function, even if I do go around in circles most of the time. Other drug companies are coming out with similar drugs soon hopefull...

I've gone from 150mg a day to 600 & still may have to increase, I know weight gain is a side effect but does it ever level out or as I increase my milligram will I continue to gain? I've already gained 50lbs! ## Yes it can! I tried it & I believe I was allergic to it. I started swelling up immediately & even though I only took for a brief time, the extra weight I gained was super hard to get off. I've heard it helps some tho! I have been prescribed Lyrica for over 4 years. Before this I had near perfect teeth - save for a few cavities. After about a year of taking the highest dose 3x my teeth started to get "brittle" and would simply break off while eatingor simply fall out sometimes. Has ANYONE heard of this or knows somone it has happened to also? ## Lyrica, as well as a lot of other medications, can cause dry mouth as a side effect. When this happens, even if it isn't bad enough for you to really notice, it allows bacteria to remain on your teeth that would normally be washed away by your saliva. Learn more Lyrica details here. Thus, any time you are taking a medication for a long period of time, your normal dental routine may not be enough. You might have to put some more effort in to save yo...

I was placed on Lyrica only a few months ago (only 75mg) Did it help my pain from nerve damage? yes it did. However, I have been experiencing acute problems with my teeth...the latest...yellow teeth and several turning green...i swear...been crying for hours...also enamel on front teeth almost destroyed. I am aware of the dry mouth warning, but there's no excuse for this. If you are thinking of this med. do more research, PLEASE. The blogs are everywhere.... ## Thank you Cheryl! I'm not crazy. I was on Lyrica for almost a year. Every other month I'd brake a molar or a tooth. I didn't know what was going on. The worst part is that I spent thousands of dollars on jaw surgery and braces (as an adult) and all that work has gone down the drain. I now need dentures. Great! I t...
