Can this medication affect the liver in anyway ? ## Hello, Brenda! How are you? Most medications are processed through your liver, so yes. Though, it is very rare for it to cause any problems. However, when most people are taking it for a long period of time, their doctors will do liver and kidney function tests to monitor and make sure they aren't developing any problems. This medication is most commonly used to help lower high blood pressure and treat certain cardiac conditions. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, hypotension and dehydration. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have been taking losartan 25mg for about 6 weeks for high blood pressure. Within that time I started to experience back pa...

I have been on it for 2 months and the side effects have been awful. I couldn't stand it any more. I stopped taking it last Wednesday. It's been 5 days. I now have swollen ankles. Is this something to worry about? What is the risk of stopping and how long does it take to get it out of your system? ## Hello, Lindyann! How are you? Yes, you shouldn't have stopped it abruptly, because that can cause a rebound effect, such as what you're experiencing with the edema. You may also have dangerously elevated blood pressure. Please consult your doctor as soon as possible to have things checked out for your own safety. You may require medical treatment and will need to try a different blood pressure medication. Are there any other questions or concerns? ## hello..ive been taking l...

I took one pill and an hour later took another one.... What do i need to do? Will it hurt me? ## While it is always best to check with a medical professional, according to most FDA reports, doubling up just once is usually not dangerous, unless someone is allergic/sensitive to a medication. But it may cause you to experience more severe side effects than usual, which could include nausea, dizziness, headache, and increase urination. How are you doing? Did you experience any adverse effects?

my Losartan hctz tab 100/25 ap are yellow oval, i just want to make sure they are the right pills ## I can't really provide you with a definitive answer, without knowing the markings on the tablets, since that is what enables us to identify them for you. However, there are several oval, yellow tablets on the market that contain this dosage of Losartan and Hydrochlorthiazide. Some of the markings are: 93 7368 (The 93 may have been changed to the word TEVA) APO 100 25 M43 LU E 49 and there are several others. Do any of these match the tablets in question? ## I take Losartan/hctz yellow oval tabs number on it is 1118 Pharmex 2009 copyright These do not cause me to cough I am trying to find a pharmacy in Surprise, AZ that carries these. ## Carol, I'm sorry, but we have no way of kno...

I've recently been diagnosed as a diabetic but I've been on low Losartan HCTZ for over 10 years and I'm wondering with the change this is going to have on my body . Am I going to retain lots of water and become swollen will my bp rise does anyone know ? ## It is possible, but there's way to know ahead of time, until you try taking it for a couple weeks. Have you made the switch, yet? The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension.

I have been taking losartan hctz for 3 days and already feel like I have a url with burning and urgency. I never get these infections so I am assuming it could be the Losartan. Yes or no? ## Hello, Kathy! How are you feeling? I'm sorry about the problem you're having. To be quite honest, I'm finding conflicting information on this, some information says it can cause them, but not others. So it may or may not be, there is always a first time for everything, including getting a UTI, though you never have before. Have you had this checked out, yet? Are on any other medications?

I have been taking this medicine for a short while. The firat 30 days my no was well controlled but I've had a serious backache for about 2 weeks. At refill, it was switched to another brand, North star Rx LL. My bp is again staying elevated, 150/95 consistently, and the backache is gone. Is it possible that I got a bad batch? ## Hello, Kathy! How are you? It is rather difficult to say, it could be that it's just not working well for you. What type of foods do you eat? Do you watch your sodium? How much fluid do you drink each day? Are you on any other medications? Do you get lots of exercise? Have you spoken to the prescribing doctor about it?

I have taken generic hyzaar for years.for the past 4years I've taken losartan potassium HCTZ 100-25 mfr by SANDOZ. They 2 days ago I got my refill and it was a different color pill and made by NORTHSTAR rx. Two days of taking them and my BP goes up to 154/122! Holy crap! My norm is 120/80. Has this medicine acted like this for other people? ## Hello, Vicki! How are you? Has there been any change? There can be fluctuations in the amount of the active ingredient in generic medications, as allowed by the Hatch-Waxman Act of 1984. Thus, this one may not be as potent as the one you were taking. The 122 is concerning and you should have this checked out, if it's still going that high, as your doctor may need to prescribe a different medication. ## They changed my meds back to the orig...

I take this for blood pressure. Now if I out in the sun, even just sun bathing and not moving much I get so light headed I can't see. Can this be the med.? Thanks ## I should add that when this happens my BP drops, maybe from 135/78 to 100/60 and heart rate goes up to maybe 120. ## Hello, Ralph! How are you? Only your doctor can say for sure, but it is most likely due to the drop in your blood pressure, rather than the medication. When out in the sun and warm, or hot, it can cause your blood pressure to drop even lower than usual, being overheated does that to many people. Typical side effects of this medication may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. There is also a chance that it could be due to dehydration, if you aren't taking i...

I have been taking the 100/25 pale yellow tablet mfg by TEVA. My pharmacist claims they cannot get the tablet due to formulation problems at the mfg. I have been taking a green tablet 100mg Losartan along with a separate HCTZ tablet made by IVAX. I have broken out in hives and itching. This is not the same formulation I was taking before. Going back to the Dr tomorrow. Has there been a report about this before? ## It certainly sounds like you may be allergic to something in one of the tablets. And yes, unfortunately, there has been a shortage. It was reported by all manufacturers a few months ago and was supposed to be resolved in a short period of time, but this obviously has not happened. They've also not provided any explanation for the shortage. It would probably be best to talk...

What is the difference between Losartan HCTZ 100/12.5, white pill, 1117 on one side and blank on the other side, and Hyzar 100/12.5? ## Both of the pills in question are one in the same drug. The only difference I noticed is that they are different brands/generics manufactured by different companies. Because of this, there may be a slight variation of inactive ingredients; but other than that you can be assured that they are the same drug and same dosage. Certain "inactive" ingredients that may or may not be present in each brand, are actually detrimental to how the drug is metabolized and used by your body. Because everyone is different, your body may respond favorably with one medication and not the other, due to how you feel or based on whatever side effects present themselve...

Ok, is the yellow losartan pill 25 mg or 100 mg? Kind of confusing. Is this a high dosage or a low dosage? Thanks, David ## Is that the complete marking? Can you please post back and clarify? Is the marking E 49? If so this tablet is listed by Aurobindo Pharma as containing 25mgs of Hydrocholorothiazide and 100mgs of Losartan. It is used to treat high blood pressure, and certain cardiac conditions. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, dehydration, and hypotension. Thus, it is actually neither, since it s a combination medication that contains 2 active ingredients, in different dosages.

I had high BP for several months and tried all combinations without success. I had a bad reaction to Beta Blockers and Calcium blockers. My BP became normal (120/80) just a few days after I started taking Losartan/HCTZ. It was magical for about a month but starting this Monday my BP jumped to 156/98; then for last two days in the morning 145/86 and in the evening 130/92. What could cause this sudden rise? What can I do to get back to 120/80? ## Your blood pressure will never reach 120/80 and stay there, it is always going to fluctuate depending on the time of day you are checking, when you've taken your medications, what you've eaten, activity levels and etc. Why are you checking it so frequently? The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, he...

My Dr. took me off lisinopril-hctz because of headaches and body weakness. I felt better with the losartan 50mg but my blood pressure shot up to 200/100. Would the losartan work in a combo with lisinopril-hctz; possibly taking the losartan in the evening? ## Do not mix meds. Pharmacist told me that. I was taken off Lisinopril and switched to Losartan 50 mg a day. Blood pressure does not stay regular. I get dizzy. I hate bp meds. I hope we get this straightened out. Losartan seems to be better so far but I am scared that my BP will not get better. Just do not mix medications. Call your doctor and he can adjust. Good luck. ## Juan again on the conversation lisinapril-hctz and losartan,I suffer from chronic pain that can attack me at anytime, but I noted that when i changed from lisinapril-...

I take losartan-hctz100-25mg 1 a day. Could this make me lose my hair? Have been on it for 2 months and starting to lose my hair Is this a side effect? Also take verapamil er 240mg for around 2 years. ## Hi jenny, According to The National Library of Medicine, Losartan can in fact cause alopecia (hair loss) as a side effect. It doesn't appear to be very common though since this side effect is not listed in other directories, but it does happen. If it becomes unbearable, you may want to consider switching medications or looking into a natural alternative that may be safer to use in the long run. Have you had a chance to discuss this concern with your doctor yet? ## Am on Losartan, Inderal, clonidine, I have been on these for 3 years and have lost over half of my hair, are there alter...
