SOMETIMES AT NIGHT MY PRESSURE WILL SKYROCKET TO ABOUT 235/105. I DOUBLE DOSE MY MEDS BUT IT STILL TAKES AROUND 3-4 HOURS TO GET IT DOWN; NOT LOW BUT LIVABLE. I TAKE CLONIDINE .02 LOSARTAN 100 MG AND SOMETIMES AMLODIPINE 5 MG. ## Actually, the only thing bringing it down after 3 to 4 hours is time, not the medications. These medications don't work like that to bring it down that fast, they take time to work, which requires consistent dosing for 4 to 6 weeks to have an effect, occasionally doubling up, just when it spikes does nothing. Have you consulted your doctor about the spikes? What are you doing that may make it elevate like that? You most likely need a med adjustment in the evening, which will probably be a higher dosage of one of them. One that you could ask your doctor abou...

Is losartan a statin? My blood pressure is high and they changed my pill from perindopril 4mg to losartan potassium 100 mg. Now my blood pressure is even higher and they have given me bendroflumethiazide 2.5mg. Can l take an herbal remedy such as co-q10? ## No, losartan is not a statin. It is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist drug used mainly to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Among the benefits of taking CoQ10 supplements is helping to maintain healthy blood pressure levels that are already within the normal range. This should not be confused with the treatment of high blood pressure which falls outside of the “healthy blood pressure” category. While there is good evidence to support the use of CoQ10 in the treatment of high blood pressure, this should only be...

Can Losartan 50 mg loose it's effectiveness for lowering blood presure overlong term use? ## It actually isn't that the medication loses effectiveness, but that your body gets tolerant to it. Your body can get used to anything you use for a long period of time and it will eventually stop working as well for you. Learn more Losartan details here. There's really no precise time frame, it can vary from person to person. Some people can take the same medication in the same dosage for years and it will keep working, but some people will need to switch to a different dosage or medication after just a few months. And since we are talking about your blood pressure, you also need to be aware the certain lifestyle habits can also play a role and may be making it so it's going high...

I was on Losartan for 5 years and for the last 5 years on Benicar 20 OD. About 10 days back my blood pressure showed increased values of 180/100 and fluctuated between 180/110 to 140/90. I also continued having a dull headache. I have since enhanced the dosage to Benicar 40 OD. Now the blood pressure is keeping itself at values below 110/70. Can I revert back to Benicar 20 after some time?

I have been prescribed ramipril 5, telmisartan 40, losartan sodium 50 at different occasions for blood pressure. I want to know is there any harm in changing the medicines from time to time. Or one should stick to one medicine for BP. Please let me have your suggestion in this regard. Please note that alongwith this BP Medicine I have been taking Glibenclamide5mg+Metformin 500 mg (for diabetic) ## Hello, Kaaliya! How are you? You should take whichever medication your doctor has prescribed, unless they tell you to change it or to stop taking it. These types of medications take awhile to reach their full levels of effectiveness in your body, so switching too frequently wouldn't actually give them a chance to work. Which one are you currently taking?

My mother is 95 and never had high blood pressure while taking 20 mg Metoprolol. About 3 months ago her blood pressure started being around 200/90. She has been on 100mg of Losartan and 2.5 mg Amlodipine, but it isn't bringing it down. Suggestions? ## How long has she been taking the new medications? They usually take about 4 to 5 weeks to reach their full level of efficacy in the body. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Does she eat a lot of fatty and salty foods? I have been taking Losacar-H along with Amtas AT for the past seven years for my blood pressure. Now that my blood pressure is well under control, is there any harm in continuing these medications? ## While there are always risks associated with using any medication long-term, the risks to you are far greater if you stop taking them and let your blood pressure get out of control. Has your doctor been running occasional blood tests to check your liver and kidney function? If those tests show no abnormalities and the medications are still working for you, then there is no need to switch or change your regimen, unless your doctor advises you to do otherwise. Losocar-H contains Losartan and Hydrochlorothiazide. Amtas-AT contains Amlodipine and Atenolol. ## Thank you very much for your reply...
