Lisinopril Cough

I have been taking lisinopril for about a year with an annoying cough the whole time. Then suddenly last week developed a cough from hell, all day, and all night, no sleep, etc. Went to the doctor and they said it was the lisinopril and changed the perscription. When I was in line to pick it up the man in front of me was there for the same reason. Is there a bad batch running around? ## I doubt it is due to a bad batch, it is actually a very common side effect of this medication. For some people it is very mild and wears off after a few weeks, but for others, it continues or worsens and they have to switch medications. In all honesty, you should have talked to your doctor about the cough and something should have been done about it some time long before this. Are there any other questio...

Just learned that the chronic cough I've had for two years might be caused by this med. What would be the alternative Rx? ## Sorry to hear about your bad experience with Lisinopril. I personally used to have severe hypertension for a number of years, but was able to control it by controlling more of my eating habits and exercising. What works for me may not work for everyone, but my initial advice is to look into natural ways (before prescription alternatives) such as: Low/no sodium foods to help reduce inflammation and water retention, supplementation of garlic, as well as having a diet that is rich in potassium and magnesium. Other dietary and non dietary options for lowering blood pressure can include (but are not limited to): L-Theanine Magnesium Glycinate Coenzyme Q10 Garlic Ha...

I have OCD and I have a pill phobia and become obsessed. My question is how much is too much of Lisinopril 25mg? Toxic effects? also for HCTZ 25mg? ## Hello, Brenda! How are you? I understand, I have OCD myself and frequently do the same thing with medications, though I don't have a phobia about taking them. Anyway, I am very happy to help with more information. You should only take the amount your doctor has prescribed. But the maximum daily dose of Lisinopril can go as high as 80mgs daily, but it's rarely used in doses more than 40mgs daily. 1 year on Lisinopril: Coughing so bad I vomit. Weezing so loud I wake my self up. Rash so bad i bleed from itching. Leg cramps. Lips numb. Doctor wont listen. So I took my self off this medication. Rash is clearing up. Cough is better. Taking an aspirin a day and no salt, loosing weight to control BP till I find a new doc. Stay away from this Medication. Horrific year of horrific side effects!!!! ## Hello, Doll! How are you? I'm sorry about what you've experienced. Wow! That's horrible! I also had a very bad experience with Lisinopril and my doctor listed it among my allergies to make sure no one prescribes it for me, again. Those can be side effects of it, as reported by the FDA, along with nausea, headache, increased urination and hypotension. What type of doctor were you ...

round pink pill with number 5 imprinted on back ## Is it scored on the opposite side? If so, then it is Lisinopril 5mgs, a generic for Zestril. This is used to help lower blood pressure. Some of the most common side effects are cough, diarrhea and drowsiness. ## My lisinopril has #10 on the back rather than #5 as you stated in this article. On the front is LUPIN. Is this OK? ## Yes, that is fine. It is just manufactured by a different company than the pill that the original poster was referring to. ## My pharmacy gave me Lisinopril LUP 30 mg which is a round pink pill instead of my usual Lisinopril 30mg SAN which is normally small, pink and oval in shape. Is this okay? ## Yes, Diane, yours is also the correct medication, just made by a different company. ## Doctor just changed my husban...

I have been on Lisinopril for 6 months. I told my doctor I am allergic as I broke out in a serious rash. A dermotologist gave me Bethamensone to put on rash and I broke out in a chronic rash. A new dermotologist gave me Cephelexin and Muroprocin (both ate me alive). I then was placed on Prednisone (30 pills). I feel better but notice that I still have spots of rashes here and there. I'm looking for a new HBP medicine. I was suggested Benicar. Any help? ## After being on Lisinopril for 4 months I had enough. The coughing and sharp pain in my head no more. Its not worth taking a med that makes you feel so bad there are other meds to take in replacement of Lisinopril. ## Unfortunately, coughing and headaches are normal side effects of most blood pressure medications. It will be a matte...

Hi, my mom was placed on Lisinopril 10mg to lower her HBP. Unfortunately we noticed the dry cough. With the approval of the Doc., she was placed on Nifedipine 20mg to be taken two times daily. Sadly, its been two weeks since she stopped using Lisinopril but the cough is still there(it just subsided a little). She is also managing diabetes. Is it alright for her to use cough meds? ## Hi, Nikky! How are you? Sorry about your mothers cough. The Nifedipine usually doesn't cause it as often, but it can cause a cough, as well, in some people that take it. Has she consulted her doctor, again? Learn more Nifedipine details here. Has anyone had a simular experience, and if so, have your symptoms cleared up since you stopped taking this...its been about 2 week since I stopped and I'm still experiencing some sporadic coughing. Throat is not like sore but I can tell something is going on. Doc said cause of cough was meds and stopped them but will it or how long will it take to straighten out? need help please! ## It really depends on how long you were taking it. I experienced this when I was taking Lisinopril, along with other problems, I had been taking it about 6 weeks and it took about 3 weeks, after I stopped, for the cough to finally go away completely. What other medication are you taking, now? If you have high blo...

I started taking lisinopril a couple of years ago. I never really got the cough. However I got acid reflux that was debilitating. I was prescribed pantoprazole for that. I hate the long term side effects and was looking for an alternative - and wondering how I suddenly got reflux. I stopped the pantoprazole two weeks ago and am coping with apple cider vinegar. After some research it seems that lisinopril can cause stomach issues. So I stopped that yesterday and am drinking hibiscus tea instead. Has anyone else had acid reflux disease as a result of lisinopril? ## Hello, Gerdie! How are you doing? Most prescription medications can cause acidity issues as a side effect, according to the FDA. They can often be mitigated by making sure to take them with food, or by taking an antacid with th...

I recently got off this drug because of a cough and serious kidney problems. Has anybody out there had kidney issues. New meds hace brought my kidneys back somewhat. But will never be the same. ## Kidney problems from Lisinopril are rare, but they have been reported to occur in some people that take it. In many cases it has the complete opposite effect and is given to help protect the kidneys from other medical conditions and medications. What medications are you using now? ## Amlodipine 5 mg. Kidneys got better after I started taking this. Dr said it was dehydration but I think it was the meds or both. GFR went from 41 to 50 after taking for only 10 days. Always was 60. Boy was I scared.

I have been taking Lisiniprol 10 mg 1 tab per day for the past 4 yrs and BP has been quite normal, so yes it does work. Like any other drug watch closely and see your doctor if you notice any harsh side effects. I would say for me yes I do get the cough on and off, dry tickle, cough, cough. It's annoying but I don't know if it's enough to stop taking it as it seems to be working well otherwise. I do however worry about the long term use (if it's OK) and if I were to stop I have read that it's not a good idea to stop cold turkey, any suggestions of how to stop, perhaps I should consult with Doctor?? P.S. I am over 50 ## You shouldn't stop, without your doctor's approval, because while your blood pressure may be normal now, the medication may be the only thing ...

I've taken 10mg Lisinopril with success for 9 days. Lowered my BP from 140s/90s to low 100s/low 70s. But on days 6-9 my BP was going down to 98/65 different times of the day, with some slight lightheadedness, no coughing. I was worried it would keep trending lower, especially while sleeping, and cause more dizziness. So my Dr gave me a 5mg RX. One day on that dose and I already noticed my BP going higher (High 130/high 80, low 90s). Now that I know I get better readings with 10mg I want to switch back. So my question is, is it ok that I went one day with 5mg and will go back to 10mg the next day? I was going to take another 5mg 12 hrs after my first dose but wasn't sure if that was ok? ## It really takes about 4 to 5 weeks, at one steady dosage, for Lisinopril to reach its full ...
