Levothyroxine, also known as L-thyroxine, is a manufactured form of the thyroid hormone thyroxine (T4).[2][5] It is used to treat thyroid hormone deficiency (hypothyroidism), including Hashimoto's disease and a severe form known as myxedema coma.[2] It may also be used to treat and prevent certain types of thyroid tumors.[2] It is not indicated for weight loss.[2] Levothyroxine is taken by mouth or given by intrav...

Is there anyone out there that has had a good experience with this medicine. Also does it always cause hair loss. It was just prescribed for me yesterday but I'm afraid to take it after reading about it. ## I've been taking Levothyroxine for 6 years now and I've had a great experience with this medicine. I have had to up the milligram dosage 3 times, but that's due to my thyroid levels keep decreasing. I have never noticed hair loss while taking this medicine, but it may have different side effects for different people. ## Thank you Julia , You are the first and only one out there that I have heard anything positive from concerning this drug. ## @Pat, Usually when people take the time to leave feedback, it's generally because something went wrong with their medicatio...

Thnx ## With your symptoms, you sound like you may be suffering hyperparathyroidism. You should get a calcium level along with a PTH level. Have you had surgery to remove one or more of the parathyroids. You have a total of 4 parathyroids and one or more could have turned into benign tumors (adenomas). If you're still having symptoms then there is still something wrong.

im on 50mg of levotyroxine still feel like crap, still heavy, will it all change ## How long have you been taking it? Most medications require 4 to 6 weeks to reach their full effectiveness in the body and not all of them work for everyone that tries them, thus there is really no way to say whether or not this will change for you. You can usually tell, when you've hit this point, because that is also when any side effects you're experiencing will be most severe, such as nausea, drowsiness and dizziness, then they will start to taper off in severity. Have you consulted your doctor?

How are you doing? If they are taking blood samples regularly to check your thyroid levels, it is completely normal for your doctor to adjust the dosage accordingly. There isn't one set dosage that you can be given, since the hormone levels fluctuate, the medication dosage must be changed to compensate. Is there anything else I can help with?

oval, beige, pill, GG337 ## ive been taking levothyroxine for 3 months and i was drinking water regular now ive been taking thyroxine sodium and i cant get enough water please explain the differences thank you derrek ## There aren't really any severe differences, they are both thyroid hormones, given to supplement those are are deficient. However, your body can react differently to differenct medications, so while on one medication you may not experience a lot of side effects, but a switch to a new drug, even in the same class, might result in more severe side effects. Is you continue to experience problems, you should probably consult your doctor, this may not be the right medication for you. Is there anything else I can help you with? ## I have been on levothyroxine 16 years. I have...

I have taken this medication for about eight weeks and have experienced some changes. First, hair loss and since I have nice hair, this is a worry. I have very little appetite and I was thin to begin with. I am 82 and wonder if these changes will persist. Also, I don't sleep well, but that is often true of aging. I would appreciate answers. I am going back for another blood test to see where my thyroid count is now. ## Go to tpa-uk.org.uk/ this is an excellent web sight and has many answers. There is always someone there to support you. Hope you get well. ## As to the hair loss, yes, it most likely will persist. It is generally an ongoing issue, when taking this medication. However, you should speak to your doctor regarding the appetite and sleep issues, because while they can also ...

I've been taking Levothyroxine 150 mcg (hypothyroidism) for the past ten years. Up until a month and half ago my doctor increased my medication to 2 mg. I'm noticing a high volume of hair loss, does this ever stop? Will the hair loss issue, subside? Very concerned. ## Unfortunately, hair loss is a normal side effect of this medication and, while not everyone experiences it, it usually does not subside, most people do experience it as long as they continue to take the medication. It tends to be a more severe problem at higher dosages, so it may abate if your dosage is lowered in the future, but there is really no way to say with any certainty, since everyone is different. Have you discussed the issue with your doctor? ## It does stop after awhile on it and your body adjusts to th...

I've been taking it for almost 2 weeks and get nauseated and don't have an appetite. ## Have you consulted your doctor? I started taking this drug about 8 weeks ago. After 6 weeks my blood was checked and levels were still high so doc increase doseage to 50 mcg's a day. This drug does effect my period. My period used to last 5 days, but since I started taking this drug, my period only last 2-3 days, plus it bleeding less. I'm really worry about it. Is this drug mess up my body? ## Have you consulted your doctor? It is possible that your period was actually running a little longer and heavier than it should, due to your thyroid issue and that the medication is now helping with it, however, only your doctor can really help you discover if that is the case. ## What levels were too high? If your doc increased your dose I suspect it was just one level, TSH. Get a copy of your results so that you know ...

how does the pill look like? ## my precription was refilled . the first capsule was light in color, now the new refill is Lighjt orchid . Doe this matter? ## Just to clear this up, no the colors don't actually mean anything. That is something that is entirely up to the whit and whim of the manufacturer. If a new refill of the same medication in the same dosage is a different color, then it's most likely also from a different manufacturer. Learn more Levothyroxine details here. Years of Levothyroxine and never felt better. completely quit and have more energy, but very grumpy ## From what I could gather, irritability is listed as a side effect of Levothyroxine. Ref: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a682461.html#side-effects It could be that there is still some left in your system or even just your body getting used to not having it. How long have you been off of this medication for?

I have been taking this for yeas, suddenly, I've developed a rash that comes and goes, and wonder id\f anyone else has had this problem.....my doctor has prescribed prednisone, but I think my dosage is to high....help ## Hello, Harvey! How are you? Skin rash can be a side effect of this medication, but it is a normal one and doesn't necessarily mean that your dosage is too high, as reported by the FDA. You may also experience dizziness, weight changes and hair loss. When were your levels last checked? Your dosage should be dependent on them.
