my mom having this tab, she have a sweling body is this a side effect . ## Has she consulted her doctor? How long has she been taking it? It might be the sign of an allergic reaction and she should contact her doctor immediately. ## Hi. My grandmother is 70+ and she has just recently managed to get her sodium levels under control, they were quite low. Also she is diabetic but thats under control, her BP is usually in the 140 range, cant really help that because she needs to take salt capsules to regain her sodium during summers and the monsoon season. Now, she has been experiencing a sudden weight gain, with excessive swelling to the feet. That came down a bit with a 5 day dosage of lasix 40mg, cant continue as she may lose electrolytes again. So, the doc asked to get her TSH checked wh...

My mother aged 87 years has started taking Nexito Plus for the past 3 days. She used to have panic / anxiety attacks in the night, and hence was prescribed Nexito plus instead of Revotril (0.25 mg). She did not sleep during the past two nights, and today has been sleeping through the day. Towards evening, she became more drowsy and is sleeping soundly with very little reaction. Her pulse rate is varying between 52 - 57. Oxygen saturation is 95-99. She is also on Lasix (40mg) - 1/2 tablet twice a day. Should we let her sleep ? Is it one of the effects of using Nexito plus ? Should we do something else ? ## Yes, drowsiness can be a side effect of this medication, according to the U.S. FDA, she may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, and irritability. Things should improve in abou...

My husband is taking the following medications: Olmetec 40mg + Zanidip 10mg + Plavix 75mg + Lasix 40mg + Cartia aspirin 100mg; 1 each morning. He is also taking: 2 Panadol Osteo 5mg x 3 times daily + 1 Pregabalin 25mg + 1 Vytorin 10/40mg at night. All prescribed by his GP. He had a triple bypass in 2014; stents 1 in Feb, 2 in Nov 2016; Radical prostectomy for cancer in 2006; Radiation for secondary cancers in 2009; Neurosurgery for a subdural hemorrhage in 2013. He has had breathing problems and used inhalers off and on for 4 years (is now off these). He does have asbestos fibers in his lungs, but thankfully no major problems there. But he is having problems with tiredness throughout the day and is constantly sleeping. Is this due to the mixture of drugs he is on now?

My wife is suffering from MCD (Minimal Change Disease) and has been prescribed the above drugs by the Nephrologist. However, she has started experiencing acute cramps all over her legs and hands. Please advice or share experience. ## I am not a medical doctor but have some understanding of the diuretic due to use of these on my parents. The cramps are a result of loss of potassium due to use of Lasix type of diuretic, and reduced loss of potassium due to use of Dytor type of diuretic. Normally potassium chloride is recommended to substitute for potassium loss and to take care of the cramps. My advice is to see a good physician and get an opinion on this. Cramps are highly debilitating and painful and hence I am responding to this. My mother who had been on prolonged dytor use had cramps...

Have been using cardizem for 7 years and would like to know if there are any long term side effects...I seem to be having some trouble cognitively and my great aunt who was on it ended up with dementia...was curious if there was any correlation between the brain and the drug. Also the buildup of fluid has been extensive even with watching the salt intake. Also taking daily ranexa, eliquis, lasix, spirivia, albuterol. Thank you for any input. ## Since you're on several medications, it's hard to attribute your symptoms to any particular one with certainty. What types of cognitive issues are you having? As to the fluid build up, is the Lasix not helping with it? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, increased urination ...

Doctor has RX'd both lasix and KLOR-CON M 20meg for swollen ankle. Is it necessary to take both medications? Can I just take the lasix and rely on the potassium I obtain through the foods that I eat? ## Hello, Buckeye! How are you? It would be best to take them both, if your doctor has prescribed them both. Diuretics, such as Lasix tend to really sap your potassium and it could be dangerous, if it drops too low. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Lasix as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and increased urination. The Klor-Con is known to cause stomach pain and upset, so it is best taken with food or a snack. Is there anything else I can help with? ## The advice in your reply sounds logical and I will follow it by taking both meds. thanks, Verwon. An extensive sea...

I'm taking 300 mg of gabapentin three times a day and noticed a rapid weight gain. I think it's mostly water retention and I was wondering if taking one Lasix a day would help me loose the weigh and keep it off and not cause any other catastrophe. ## Hello, Margareta! How are you? With the possible risks associated with such rapid fluid retention, it would be best to have it checked out, rather than trying to treat it yourself. It does have the potential to lead to congestive heart failure. How long have you been taking the Gabapentin? It can also just cause regular weight gain and not just fluid gain. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness and mood swings. ## The drug made me pile on the weight and my tummy hammed it on. I was frighted to eat. I would try and come off...

I am taking 10 mg lasix twice daily and 20 meq potassium daily. Is this a good ratio? ## Hello, Eugene! How are you? Are these the doses your doctor has prescribed? There's really no definitive rate that I can give you for how much potassium Lasix depletes from the body, it can vary from person to person. Have you actually tested as being low in potassium? The FDA lists the typical side effects of Lasix as possibly including nausea, dizziness, increased urination, hypotension and dehydration. The potassium is known to irritate the stomach, so it should only be taken with food.
