i am now taking morphine sulfate 30 mg er tabs, and oxycodone 30 mg ir tabs morphine1 tablet every 8 hours and 1 tablet of oxycodone every 8 hours.but when waking up in the morning i have these terrible bad headache. i almost have to vomit. is that to happen? thanks sharon ## Hi Sharon, To answer your first question, Oxycodone is said to be approximately 1.5x as potent on a milligram to milligram basis. My pain specialist had me on 40 mg Opana ER and 15 mg Morphine Sulfate IR for 8 years. I had to find another doctor and starting next week I will be taking 30 mg Oxymorphone ER every 12 hours and 10 mg Oxycodone IR up to 3 per day. I have been out of my break thru pain med for 2 days now and my pain level averages 9 to 10 every day so I have taken 5 mg valium, Tylenol #3 with codine and a baclofen to stop me from going into withdrawal. I was on 5 30mg of oxycodone ir after doing some reading after you have more than 120mg in your system the rest is not helping you it's just loading your system up and your asking for long term problems my dr. Say I take 3 30mg oxycodone, how many 30mg instant morphine would I need? ## Oxycodone is one and half times stronger than Morphine, so for each 30mg Oxycodone, you'd need 45mgs of Morphine, or for 90mgs, you'd need 135mgs of Morphine. Both are narcotics, so you should make sure that you aren't taking more than your doctor has prescribed, because they can cause depression of the central nervous system, as well as respiratory depression. Does anyone know if 2 15mg morphine tabs would be equal to 1 30mg oxycodone. Both are immediate release. I find it ridiculous that sooo many people are messing around with schedule II narcotics yet have no clue to the potency, side effects, drug interactions, etc.. are you people not adults? Oxy is indeed a good 1.5% stronger than morphine and not at all subtle like morphine.. Most doses of Oxy that are between 15-30 mg are IR's not ER (extended release like most morphine)... I think their efficacy also largely depends on your body chemistry and how well you tolerate each medication (in relation to the severity of your pain). Because this factor is so different for each individual, there's really no ethical way to compare these two medications on a milligram to milligram basis. If you're looking to compare one or the other, I would suggest asking your doctor for a smaller script that you can use as a trial run, just to see how your body responds to each medication. I have been taking 4 10/325 Percocet daily plus 100mcq Fentanyl patch every 48 hrs.My Doc changed me to 15mg morphine IR every 6hrs as needed,I can not feel hardly any difference in pain relief should I? ## Hello, Tom! For approx the past six months I have had even more problems than usual filling my morphine ir 30 mg. twice there have been drug shortages. I need to change to an equivilant medication like roxicodone,or something similar. What dose of oxycodone is equal to 4 X msir 30mg per day??? Is it the same as 1 hydro or much stronger ? I have some breathing issues taking 10 mg OxyContin but not with 15 -30 mg.
