Is Losartan A Statin

Statins are known to cause memory loss. I've read that losartan can cause the same side effects as statin drugs. Is memory loss one of the side effects losartan can cause? ## No, it is not a statin, it is actually classified as an angiotensin 2 receptor antagonist, but yes it can cause memory impairment as a side effect, though it is very rare for it to do so. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Is the patient on any other medications? ## yes, patient is on amlodipine. He has none of the 'normal' side effects you mentioned. He is always tired. When I looked up side effects for his meds, both said extreme fatigue was a possible side effect. He is cold frequently when no one else is. Is...

I take 100 mg losartan a day along with 10mg amlodipine. I have really bad aches and pains in all my joints and muscles. Is losartan to blame as I did not have it before? ## It is not a statin drug, but it can cause those types of side effects in some people that take it. The NIH lists other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased urination. The increased urination could also cause it, if you are becoming dehydrated. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change? ## I get dizziness and almost unbearable foot pain. I had stopped taking it, for this reason, but the doctor still prescribes it. ## I used to take 100mg of Lorstan too, along with 10mg of Amlodipine with Hydrocholorthiazide 25mg. for blood pressure control (high). I noticed tha...

Take 40mg at night, take losartan 100/25 morning. after morning BM[normal] half hour later stomach cramps and severe diarrhea lots of water. could pravastatin cause this? causing liver to dump bile? taking a water pill and adding this effect causes me to be concerned as to dehydration with 80-90 degree temps here in the South? ## Hello, Rick! How are you? Yes, it can cause those types of issues in some people that take it. These statin medications are very problematic and many people have experienced such severe joint and muscle aches that they had to stop taking them. In these high temps, it might be best to speak to your doctor about adjusting something or perhaps dropping the diuretic for now. Are there any other questions or concerns?

I take Losartan in the am and Paxil and Lipitor before bed. I find myself extremely tired and could sleep most of the time. I can't wait to got to bed. Is this tiredness due to the Losartan or Paxil??? If so I want my Dr. to wean me off of it. I was always extremely active...not used to this. Thanks,Carol ## Hello, Carol! How are you? The first culprit that I would suspect for such a problem would actually be the Lipitor. It is classified by the FDA as being a statin medication and they cause problems for many people that take them, in quit a few cases, people have had to stop taking it altogether. You may also experience nausea, headache and joint/muscle aches. There is also a chance that it would be a combination of all of them. Have you discussed the issue with your doctor? How l...

I am taking Losartan 50 mgs twice a day and I am getting terrible joint & muscle pain. Can it be from the meds? Orrrrrrr could it be from the simvistatin? ## Have you talked to your doctor about this? The first guess as to the culprit would probably be the Simvastatin, these statin medications are very well known to cause these types of side effects in some people that use them. This means it may not be the right medication for you to use and you may need to switch to something else. The Losartan can also cause these types of side effects, but it isn't known to do so as frequently as the Simvastatin. ## How many different medications are you taking with the Losartan? Based on information I've gathered, I'm thinking that Losartan is the primary cause of your joint and mus...

My MD recently lowered my atenolol to 25 mg daily and losartan 25 mg daily, but added Lipitor 1 hs. due to my dizziness and lightheadness. pressure seems fine, but still feeling dizzy, can I take both all 3 at bedtime ## Why was the Lipitor added? The FDA classifies it as a statin medication that is used to lower cholesterol. It is very well known to cause side effects, such as dizziness, nausea, headache and joint/muscle aches, so it's very doubtful that it will improve anything. Generally, it is best to take the blood pressure medications, Lisinopril and Losartan in the morning, so they can help control your blood pressure during the times of day you'll be most active. The Lipitor, however, can be taken any time, unless your doctor specifies otherwise. ## sorry my question was...

Is losartan a statin? My blood pressure is high and they changed my pill from perindopril 4mg to losartan potassium 100 mg. Now my blood pressure is even higher and they have given me bendroflumethiazide 2.5mg. Can l take an herbal remedy such as co-q10? ## No, losartan is not a statin. It is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist drug used mainly to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Among the benefits of taking CoQ10 supplements is helping to maintain healthy blood pressure levels that are already within the normal range. This should not be confused with the treatment of high blood pressure which falls outside of the “healthy blood pressure” category. While there is good evidence to support the use of CoQ10 in the treatment of high blood pressure, this should only be...
