Intravenous Gabapentin

Is this medication ever administered in intravenous dosage forms? ## From what I've read, Gabapentin appears to be available in the following dosage forms: a capsule, a tablet, an extended-release (long-acting) tablet, and an oral solution (liquid) to take by mouth. IV methods are usually pertaining to those who recreationally abuse the medication. So I wouldn't necessarily recommend doing anything other than what your doctor or health-care provider suggests, in that regard. The dosing instructions also state that you should swallow the extended-release tablets whole; and not cut, chew, or crush them. Can you take gabapentin intravenously and what are the side effects? ## Gabapentin was originally developed for the treatment of epilepsy, and is currently widely used to relieve neuropathic pain. It is not intended to take intravenously and that approach would be rather dangerous. Gabapentin's most common side effects in adult patients include dizziness, drowsiness, and peripheral edema. I was in the hospital and they gave me an injection for pain. It started with the letter g. Any ideas? ## Could it be gabapentin? Gabapentin is frequently prescribed for nerve pain, although I'm not exactly certain whether it's currently available in an intravenous dosage form. I did happen to find a clinical study on FDA.gov discussing gabapentin being taken via IV administration at the bottom of page 2 in the following link: accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatfda_docs/label/2009/020235s041.pdf Hopefully this will at least help narrow potential suspects as to what medication you're searching for. I'll be sure to post back if I can think of any other prospects that start with a 'g'. Gabapentin just happens to be one of the more common brand names on the market. ## Thanks,...
