I am taking penicillin for strep throat, but i find it very difficult to take one pill 4x a day considering all the time I must wait before and after I eat to take them (It just doesn't quite match up with my schedule and I do not want to mess it up). Hi I was prescribed penicillin for tonsilitus i took for 3 days and was no better however had no side effects. I went back to doctors and they gave me clarithromycin instead i have taken 1 of these only and have had stomach pain and diarrhoea. But no, old or new, Penicillin isn't effective at treating the virus that causes a cold. It is only effective against bacterial infections. Additionally, improper use, such as taking it for a cold could lead to your developing antibiotic resistance, which could be very dangerous if you do get an actual infection that requires an antibiotic. It doesn't get dangerous once it's expired, but it does start to lose effectiveness, so it should just be disposed of properly. I'm all out of Amoxicillin and have Pota-V-kin Penicillin V 800000U... Does this cure a UTI? Please help. ## Hi Juno, A study by the US National Institute of Health smugly describes Penicillin's efficacy against UTI's as being a rational choice. Source: NIH / PMC477226 However my research leads me to believe that Penicillin's efficacy may also be dependent upon the strain of bacteria that's causing the infection. Therefore it may be a good idea to have your doctor analyze the bacteria through whatever diagnostics are deemed appropriate, in order to ensure that taking Penicillin is indeed the best approach. If you're unable to get in to see a doctor, perhaps a local pharmacist could at least advise you on Penicillin's standard adult dosing protocols for a UTI....

This is available from many, many different manufacturers, and this it comes in pills of different sizes, shapes, colors and imprints. It is also available in lquid, capsules, and chewables, so nobody can you tell exactly what they all would look like. There is no proprietary guidelines in the pharmaceutical industry that says all pills or products with that ingredient must all look the same. How they look is up to the whim of the manufacturer. If you take too many, you create the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria, but that's about it. Is an M357 pill penicillin or back pain medicine? I looked online and couldn't get a straight answer. ## This tablet is manufactured by Mallinckrodt and they list it as containing 5mgs of Hydrocodone and 325mgs of Acetaminophen.
