I am taking Hydroxyzine for itching. However I am beginning to think I am allergic to a component. I am allergic to stearamidopropyl dimethylamine and develop hives when using cosmetics with stearic acid or derivatives. Is this an ingredient in hydroxyzine? I am in good helath and am 64 years old ## I used to take Hydroxyzine 25 mg manufactured by Watson Pharmaceutical Co. It was a dark green, round pill. I have been told that Watson no longer makes this pill. Is that correct? If so, is there another co. that manufactures the same pill? My pharmacist filled my Rx with a small, white, round pill made by Pliva, and it does not help like the green pill did. Thanks for your response.

We ask for something to increase the appitite is this meds for that? ## This is actually an antihistamine, used to treat allergic reactions. However, after the expiration date medications do start to lose their effectiveness and will not work as well. When it is past the expiration date, usually 1 year from the date it was filled, it should be disposed of. This means that their time starts ticking away as soon as the seal on the original factory container is broken. From that point on, they have a one year expiration date and after that year, they being to lose effectiveness. Hydroxyzine isn't one that has been known to be dangerous once it's expired, but it's not going to continue working and having its intended beneficial effects. Part of me wonders whether it has enough time to digest if you're going to bed directly after you take it.
