I was taking OxyContin for pain management for Cercvical Stenosis. I have had four neck surgeries in the past six years. The Opana doesn't seem to work as well as the OxyContin. Why?? The Dr said that this medication is twice as strong. It is not working. Now what do I do? I was thinking of doubling up on the Opana. But I am concerned about the side effects. I was just prescribed this medicine and do not feel very comfortable taking it. I would like to know if any one has tried this drug and how did it work. I was previously on oxycontin and the Dr. just changed me to this. Also i am allergic to mophine, alot of people have told me including the doctors that i work for that i should not take this due to my allergy. i have been taking opana 40 for years. yes, this new opana is not working even taken the correct way. can anybody tell me if they are now on dilaudid, does it help with the pain i take two new opana 40 2x daily. it doesn't help with pain but it seems to make me tired to where not only am i dying in pain, but i am tired to where i can't seem to get up and do anything. does dillaudid make you sleepy. when i took the old opana it not only helped with pain, but i could get some things done around the house. i feel like i am losing my battle with pain, and losing my girlfriend because i never want to go anywhere or take care of OUR house. First script was old Opana, just got a new one and they are green hockey pucks, I can't see my body absorbing any of this s***. I had to go to these because the new Oxy formula got me so sick with nausea, I'll see if these do the same, if so, I have no idea what to do. Duragesic did not work, and constantly had a feeling of going through w/d when on them. Treating pain meds like guns, because a few abuse them they penalise the law abiding. ## There have already been some complaints posted that the new Opana formulation doesn't work as well and that it causes odd side effects, in some people. My doctor just switched me to Opana IR 10 mg. I was taking Lortab 10/500, but staying misusing then because I built up a tolerance. Well these Opana's are amazing. I have never been so pain free in the twenty years suffering with chronic pain. Not to mention how awesome they make me feel in general. Bad part is the itching...keeps me awake and is unbearable. I wondered if there is something over the counter I can take to make this itching go away whereas I love Opana and definitely don't want to give them up. The old formulation of Opana (octagonal) was far superior than oxycodone in relieving severe chronic pain. Opana is a time released medication that is extremely potent Because of people who abused it, several people died due to overdose. The FDA mandated that Opana be reformulated to deter abuse. The new Opana is, at least for me, totally ineffective although the extremely high cost remained. As of June 2013, there is a generic available although it is still outragesly expensive. ## And once again, what is relevant to you is not necessarily applicable to everyone else. I have been prescribed opana 40mg for almost two yrs. I really wanted to be optimistic about the new formula but it does not work! Very little to no pain relief from these plastic pills! Now I'm spending sooo much time online looking for an alternative, but not having much luck. Nothing out there equivalent? How could Endo turn a great med into the worst?? I got my new Opana Prescription this week and it is the new formulation. The old ones were six sided and the new one is round. The new formulation, that the FDA approved, is supposed to be the same quality as the old Opana we are used to. I hope so. I am going to include the links to the articles that discuss this at the bottom, the latest article is directly from the makers of Opana and is from February. The old stock of Opana is all supposed to be gone from the shelves by now and the pharmacists are all supposed to be using the new formulation. Hello I take opana 40mg Er 3x daily with 8mg of deluded for break threw pain. I have l3-l5 fussed I have Ben on opana now for 6months before that mscontin and oxy. The opana does work for me with little to no side effects I have to agree with fellow commenters about the abuse of the drugs. All it does is make it hard on people like my self that suffer from chronic pain. The new Opana's are terrible! I swallow mine like you're supposed to and I see the entire pill in my poop when I go! Does anyone know where to get the old 40mg opanas in Poughkeepsie ny or even dutchess county?I heard the new ones are horrible and don't want to b left n pain.please help me! ## I really doubt you are going to have much luck finding them, places were running out and unable to fill prescriptions, until the newly formulated product was out on the market. If the new ones aren't working for you, then you may want to consult your doctor about trying a different medication. Are there any other questions or comments?

My husband has severe rheumatoid arthritis and requires 24 pain management. We felt there were too many ups and downs with the 50 mcg fentanyl patch and asked for something new. Pain Management Dr. (PMD) changed him to MS Contin 15 mg. He was in bed for 4 solid days, was taking 4-6 percocet per day for breakthrough and was anorexic and irritable. He changed him to Opana ER 15. Can anyone explain how that might be more effective for him??? Thanks! ## Percocet is adding a lot of acetominiphine (sp?) That may end up hurting his stomach. Has anyone else found that the "New" Opanas are not as effective as the old ones for pain control? I have post herpetic trigeminal neuralgia. I am hoping that the generics will be like the old ones. This is crazy. ## Unfortunately yes, there have been quite a few people complaining about the reformulated ones, even though they are new. I have been waiting for medicaid, my husband has medicare, both my son & I were not included on getting RX, or Dr's care. Has anybody tried Opana vs OC 80? Any feedback would be helpful. ## What dosage of the Opana? The Oxymorphone in it is actually twice as strong as the Oxycodone, so if you were taking 40mgs of it, then the equivalent dose of Oxycodone would be 80mgs. Both can be effective at controlling pain, it just requires a dosage adjustment. You should also know that there are no more Oxycontin OCs. Purdue has changed the formulation and they are now Oxycontin OP. Are there any questions or comments?
