Has your doctor instructed you to take both? This combination can cause a prolonged QTc interval of the heart, which may be dangerous for some people. The FDA lists the other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. I really can't speak as to your doctor's reasoning, if you're getting UTIs regularly, then it may be for prevention.

Would this work for a cyst on my vagina? I've had a hard rock feeling thing on my vagina lip i want to know if this would help me it hurts so bad.. ## It sounds like you may have a Bartholin's Cyst, which as explained by the NIH, occurs when the gland becomes blocked and fluid builds up in it. Usually, if they are that painful, your doctor will need to drain it for you. Antibiotics don't typically help much, since it isn't an actual infection. Have you consulted your doctor?

my doctor put me on a combination of sulfamethoxazole and doxycycline after they lanced an infected oil gland on my back. the sulfa was first 4 days and I was ok. then they lanced it again and added doxy. I got a really bad sore throat and cold that they said was coincidence! and I would get really nauseous for a few hours after taking the meds. That nausea seemed to get worse each time. I could not go to work today so called dr. to see if I could take the pills once a day at night? get sick at night and still work? or what suggestions and a nurse called me back and said, "just stop taking them," this, after they gave me the warning in the office, 'make sure you finishe the whole course.' I'm confused. I don't want to do more harm later if I stop these now. Calle...

I would like to know if I can take Alieve for back pain while on sulfamethoxzole tmp ds tabitp? ## I didn't find any interactions or problems listed between Aleve and Bactrim, but you should double check such information to be careful. However, such medications are often prescribed together, since many infections cause pain and it may required medicating for a few days, until the antibiotic starts working. You can learn more Bactrim details here and you can find more Aleve details here. You may, however, experience some worsening of side effects, such as nausea, dizziness and drowsiness. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was on narcotics for 1 year due to a disk problem. I stopped for 5 weeks and after 2nd week I felt severe pain on my hip and lower sides, so back I went to my Dr. She assumed I had a urine infection and prescribed me an antibiotic. The first week of treatment didn't work so I went to the hospital for blood work, U/A's and a CAT scan that came back with a bladder infection. They then gave me another round of antibiotics (sulfamethoxazole) and I'm on my third day still in pain. ## Hello, Joe! How are you feeling? Has there been any change? I was put on this antibiotic because an infection was found in my blood work . What kind of infections can be found in blood work to have this prescribed to me plz help me I am worried. ## It's really more of a broad antibiotic that can be effective at treating various types of infections, so they may not even be certain of the specific infection and just prescribed this to try to eradicate it, regardless of the type and origin. In most cases, what happens is that while testing your blood in the lab, they discover that your white cell count is elevated and, if the elevation isn't severe enough to be a cause for alarm, the most common cause is an infection somewhere in your body. The white cells are actually your disease fighters. That's why I said that your doctor may not ev...

My boyfriend drank while on sulfamethoxazole. Now he feels like poop. He is suffering. So my question is, what now? Should he go to the drs again? Wait it out? Obviously he isn't drinking tonight, lol but i also think he should wait to continue the prescription, once the alcohol is out of his system.... These are being taken for more of a "preventive" infection from a spider bite he got at work. So, once he's free of these nasty enhanced side effects he can then continue the prescription (he only took 2 pills, before consuming beer). Thanks in advance. Oh and if you are thinking of drinking while on this, i would think twice. Its equivalent to the flu. ## Hello, Crystal! How are you? Unless his doctor instructs otherwise, it really should just be a matter of waiting it o...

Extreme tooth ache (infection) reoccurring of course. The only option to eliminate the pain and infection is a dentist. Of course I do not have that option right now. I haven't for a long time. Thus reoccurring tooth pain(infection). I have taken Clindamycin in the past for a tooth infection. But right now I only have the Sulfameth-Trimethoprim 800/160mg tabs. From what I have read it is not often prescribed for a tooth infection. But for a bacterial infection yes. So I am giving it a try. If it works I will update you. If it doesn't then it's a trip to the Emergency room for a numbing shot and a prescription for antibiotics that I might or might not be able to pay for. Tooth aches, abscess, or infection. Honest to God worst pain imaginable. That says alot Because I have bee...

Ok so i used tho medication and got what i would like to think is a yeast infection. Thick white skimpy discharge but without the smell or itch. And i went to my GYN and was testednegative for everything but e coli wwhich was why i took it. But now there is this discjarge so i am now using an over the counter 3 day monistat to hopefully clear the symptoms and side effects of the medication. If this does not work then i will talk to another GYN because frankly im not happy with the way my current doctor treats me as a patient. ## Hello, Gabby! How are you? This medication is an antibiotic and most of them can cause a yeast infection, as a side effect, as listed by the FDA, along with nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash, headache and diarrhea. However, if you didn't have any itc...

I am taking sulfamethoxazole-TMP DS tabs for two 2 weeks now for my UTI. Doctor said it takes more for it to work. The only symptom I have is frequent urination or the urge to pee and microscopic hematuria. Does it take that long for the infection to get cured? ## My doctor gave me only 3-day tabs. For same UTI w/o blood. 2 weeks seems too long ## It can vary depending on the type of bacteria that has caused the infection and the severity of the infection, so it is best to follow your doctor's instructions. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

Can this medication (sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim) be taken for shingles? I have shingles and was wondering if this medication will work? ## No, this is an antibiotic that is used to treat or prevent bacterial infections. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Shingles, however, is caused by a virus, so it will not help to treat it. Has your doctor diagnosed it as shingles? Are you on any other medications?

Just wondering if there can be any liver damage over the long term to keep me from having chronic UTI. I have been on Sulfam for three years as an antibiotic. ## Well, I can't say that you will suffer any such damage, but yes the possibility is there. And with this medication, which contains Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim, there is an even greater chance of suffering kidney damage. Learn more Sulfam details here. Are there any others that have worked for you? ## The dr had me on another med but changed it because it would likely give me some damage to the liver, I think. I have been on the sulfam for nearly three years now...and it works quite well for the UTI's

Since colds are caused by viruses, it has no affect on them. If you use it, you also run the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. You can read more on the medication and its uses here: Do you have any other questions? ## can your use suxprim for throat infection ## body aches n have alot of flema
