Im a 33 year old woman. I was just prescribed .1 mg of clonidine for OxyContin withdrawals. I have bend using Oxy's for about 2 years now. The clonidine seem to be working and I have weined myself off from 60mg a day to 20mg. But now the next step is to go off completely. I need to know how long they last in your system. I know it's at least 3 or 4 hours but not sure if any longer. I want to take my next dose before the withdrawals start. Plz help. Mom of 2 ## The plasma level of clonidine peaks in approximately 3 to 5 hours and the plasma half-life ranges from 12 to 16 hours. The half-life increases up to 41 hours in patients with severe impairment of renal function. NOTE: it generally takes about 5 half lives for the drug to be completely out of your system. Omg I'm f***n miserable! I didn't think I would have withdrawals this bad after only a month and a half of taking thus drug everyday. It's literally comparable to a milder xanax withdrawal. Yes, I did abuse it. I would take 3 0.1 mgs 2-3 times a day. Tolerance goes up extra quick with this drug. I have none left and I'm on my 3rd day of feeling like s***. I'm on a hundred and 30 milligrams of methadone every day, and it's not even taking care of me in the morning times because of how s***ty I feel. Woah good lord I f***d up royally lol my tolerance for things is always extra high because of how long I've done drugs. I refuse to tell my clinic and I just need some help because I can't find any info about how long it stays in the body when you stop it cold ...

But I still found my self restless and no real change...anyone with diff results?? ## Clonidine may actually cause the opposite effect in some people and could be keeping you awake. It does work for some people, but there are many other reports of it causing insomnia, rather than h...

I was prescribed .2mg of Clonidine twice a day to prevent withdrawl while tapering off of 100mcg/hr Fentanyl. I was not informed by my doc that I needed to taper off the Clonodine as well. Stopped taking when took last dose in bottle, & have been having horrible withdrawls from the Clonodine. Went to ER, & doc prescribed .1mg twice daily. Took first two doses & still very shaky, having horrible chills, & unable to sleep. How long will it take for this to calm down? ## Hello, Michelle! How long were you on the Clonidine? I have to wonder if these withdrawal symptoms aren't more due to withdrawing from the Fentanyl, rather than the Clonidine. Short term use of Clonidine shouldn't cause major withdrawal symptoms and the ones you've described are more typical of ...

I have recently been put on this drug for sleeping and well its not working at all. I have been taking one at night before bedtime which is what I was told but is it safe to take 2 since im not getting any rest with the 1? ## Also I failed to mention in last comment they are 0.2 mg ## I would recommend trying 1 1/2 first take it no more than 15 mins before bed it works fast. But if u take it 1hour or 30 mins before bed you can kind of simulate yourself into it not working then it loses its effect. Once the groggy effect wears off before your in bed most likely you will not fall asleep well. ## I would also call your doctor to let he/she know it's not working because if you increase your dose without say so to the doctor they will not be happy and you will run out of meds early. If t...

What all can it be used for other than blood pressure treatment? ## This is sometimes used for migraine headaches as well. ## Occasionally some types of after surgery discomfort from mild procedures, on top of what nenene already stated. I have also heard some people have been given it by their docs to help with withdrawal from other meds, but this is a total off label use, so I don't know much about it. ## My son uses it for his Tourettes. It helps with his tics, but makes him very tired. ## Withdrawal off klonopin which can be worse than opiates. I was in combat 25 years special unit. On and off klonopin and ativan 25 years. This last wd almost killed me. Doc started replacement with slow wd and clonidine. I have complex back and neck injuries. Also relived by clonidine taking pla...

My diabetic and hypertensive mother (age 88) was recently hospitalized for weakness and frequent falling. She has been on clonidine and a new doctor took her off it. She has been having horrible waves of nausea and diarrhea for about a week and a half now. She has to force herself to eat a couple of bites of each meal, and she weighed all of 92 pounds when she went in. Besides the hell she is going through, I am worried about her wasting away. How long does the clonidine withdrawal process last? ## Are you saying they just abruptly took her off of it? Did they replace it with something else? Are they providing supportive therapy? I doubt that the hospital will really let her waste away, if she starts to lose too much weight and isn't holding anything down, they will force nutrients ...

I have been having heart palpitations on an off since I started cloindine 1 mg. Should I quit? ## How long have you been taking it and how long do the palpitations last? The FDA does list palpitations as being a possible side effect of this medication and they may continue for 4 to 6 weeks, while your body is adjusting to the medication. In most case, palpitations are harmless, unless they are accompanied by other symptoms, such as dizziness and chest pain, according to the NIH, or if they last for very long periods of time.... but, it never hurts to have your doctor check things out to be sure.

Ok, so I have been on .1mg clonidine (catapres) for the last four years. I have never been to impressed with the generic I have taken nor have I ever withdrawed from clonidine ever. I take 1 in morning and 2 at night as directed. The generic I have been used to for all four years is the actavis (blue po) and have never tried any other generic. However I am big on knowing all generics differ in all medicine unless it is brand name. I tend to always order the most preferred / best generic. It would be great to get some feedback on any generics compared to actavis / blue p.o.? There are some new generics out I have noticed and I would like the most efficient. I personally stay away from Mylan on anything and usually stay away from actavis best I can but hard on this until i choose to order...

I have been on Suboxone for over a year and I want to get off of it. I am down to.5 mg once a day. For some reason that last .5 mg is the hardest part for me to get off of. My doctor has prescribed Phenobarbital 32.4 mg. for agitation. But I also have some Clonidine 0.1 mg left from an old prescrption. If my withdrawals get pretty bad at night, is it safe to take Phenobarbital 32.4 mg and Clonidine 0.1 mg together? ## Hello, Angie! How are you? I didn't find any interactions listed between these two medications, but only your doctor can tell you if it's safe for you to take both of them. Have you tried just the Phenobarbital, yet?

I have cfs since 1987 and fibro since 1994 (adrenal fatigue is the true illness). Recently I notice I have low blood volume, my pulse is always rapid, I get maybe 2-3 hours of sleep in 24 hours, high blood pressure, as well as other symptoms. I read clonidine will specifically help with all these symptoms. I just started a .1 once a day rx. I was very hopeful about this drug helping me but I am reading so much about people having bad experiences. Is this an addictive drug? My doctor and pharmacist did not say it was an addictive drug. If you have taken this drug did you become addicted? I am worried now. Although, I have to admit, my life in the last several months hasn't been a life. No sleep, can't stand up for than a few minutes, dizzy when standing from laying down. Thanks f...

One of my Doctor prescribed Aten 25mg for Migraine. He asked me to take when ever I feel starting sympems of Migraine. I have Post Partem anxiety and have been going to Minnie Jones for several months to see Dr.Ambrose in an attempt to avoid medications. It's not working. The last time I was on any medication that worked for me it was a coupling of Clonidine (Kapvay) and Diazepam as PRN for anxiety attacks. To make a long story short, I was able to completely stop needing medications for a long time. The program that I was in which originally prescribed these medications was shut down for abuse several years ago, and all of their records were destroyed in an "accidental" fire. They continued to prescribe my meds long distance for years before this happened. What I am saying is, I need a doctor who is willing to go with my suggestions as this is my body, but also who will not push me to try new
