the #60 Glipizide/ metformin are 5-500 mg. and the #60 Glipizide are 5 mg. Why would you take 1 tablet of the Glipizide metformin 500 mg and 1 Glipizide 5 mg? do they balance each other out or help stabalize sugar levels? thank you for responding. ## metformin and glipizide are two seperate diabetic medications. the metformin has a small amount of glipizide in it - and the rest that you need is supplied by the 5mg pill. also, the 5mg glipizide should be taken 30 min before a meal, the 500 mg metformin WITH a meal. you should also be receiving vitamin B12 supplements, as the metformin decreases your levels.

If diabetics sugar reads 73 would you give a Glipizide? ## Normal blood sugar levels are considered to be between 80 to 120, therefore a reading of 73 is actually considered slightly low and giving a medication for it would not make any sense. However, if the person is a known diabetic and takes the medications regularly, they work best that way to help keep the blood sugar under control and they still take it, as directed by their doctor, to help keep the levels under control. If it would start to fall extremely low, so they are experiencing symptoms, such as nausea and dizziness, then their doctor should be consulted. However, no, it would not be normal to add a dose of medication when they are having a low reading. Are there any other questions or comments?

Can I substitute metformin for glipizide ## Hello, Randy! How are you? They both treat diabetes, but they are not the same type of medication, so aren't necessarily interchangeable. My husband takes a pill that looks like glipizide 10mg, but it has nothing on it except "P with a 10" on one side. I am type 2 diabetic, currently on Glipizide. On long term Prednisone for polymalgia rheumatica for 2 years. Just had cataract surgery and have been on Durezol for 2 weeks t.i.d. Blood sugars are very erratic since doing the eyedrops. MD says no interaction! but something is going on. Eye surgeon says NOT the eyedrops. Any idea why this is happening? ## The Durezol contains the active ingredient Difluprednate, which is another steroid class medication, just like the Prednisone. So yes, it could be causing the problem, especially if you are still taking the Prednisone, since it means that there are now more steroids in your body and they are known to have an effect on blood sugar levels. Have you doctors given you any ideas for resolution, such as adjusting your diabetes medication? ## I...
