what are the differences between gluconorm sustained release and 500mg aand extended release ## There would actually be no different in these, both sustained release and extended release mean the same thing, that it's a controlled release formulation of the medications. Rather than releasing the medications, all at once, as regular tablets do, there are specially made to slowly release over time to help better control your blood sugar. Are there any other questions or comments?

My dad has been taking tablets that are a combination of Glimepiride + Metformin HCI. Is it possible that he shift to taking just Metformin HCI (of the same dosage)? or is it also possible that the two substances: Glimepiride and Metformin HCI be taken separately (one pill for Glimepiride and another pill for Metformin HCI)? ## I take them separate 1000 mg Metformin twice a day and Glimepiride 2mg before meals.

I am 77 and type 2 for 15 yrs. I now take 1000 mg Metformin in AM and again in PM. Now in addition my Dr wants me to take 1mg Glimepiride in AM. My A1c was 7.8 and glucose 185. What can I expect from the combination? Headache, gas, etc?? ## You may experience some nausea, dizziness, headache, gas and diarrhea for a week, or so, as listed by the FDA. However, they tend to be transient side effects and typically go away, once your body gets used to the new medication. You should also make sure to check your sugar level regularly, as it could cause it to drop too low. I am 59 years old and have had type 2 diabetes for ~5 years. I've just relocated from Texas to California and am between doctors. I'm 5'5", weigh 260 lbs, and recently started to have extremely low (30) blood sugars at night. I've been taking 2 x 500 mg Metformin and 1 x 2 mg Glimepiride after breakfast and after dinner. What can/should I decrease? ## Hello, Joe! How are you? What type of foods do you eat? Have you tried having a small snack, before bed? Have you gotten into a new doctor, yet? That would be the best thing to do, rather than trying to adjust your medications on your own. You are diabetic, so you need to have things checked out by a doctor regularly. Do you get a lot of exercise?

Ideally, you should take them just at the start of a meal, right before you start eating. The normal release tablets take about 15 to 20 minutes to start working, so by taking them this way, they will have a chance to start working, by the time you are finished with your meal, to better control your blood sugar levels.
