My prescription says take 3 capsules by mouth daily as needed for nerve pain. Should I take all three at once or space them out thru the day? This is for peripheral neuropathy due to chemo treatments for cancer in bones & liver. Also should I take vicodin with this medication ## Have you asked your doctor or pharmacist? Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant, that has also been shown to help with nerve pain, however, it is normally given as 3 daily divided doses, but you should check with your doctor or pharmacist to be certain. Side effects may include: nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and weight changes. Learn more:

I've been taking 100mg @ night for 3 weeks. I have lightheadedness in the morning. Could it be gabapentin, or the caffeine from coffee that I take about 1/2 to 45 minutes before I get the lightheadedness? ## I was on this medication several years ago and one of the side effects was lightheadness. I also had headaches. ## Hi Sharon, According to NIH.gov, if you notice dizziness, drowsiness or nausea while on Gabapentin, you should talk with your doctor. The MayoClinic also confirms that lightheadedness is a side effect of Gabapentin. Something else worth noting is that a caffeine overdose can cause dizziness as well. I don't know how much caffeine you take, but I wouldn't rule it out as a possible contributing factor. Hope you feel better soon!

I have been taking 100 mg of gabapentin for three weeks for neuropathy and it helped but I am feeling so down and giving mood swings so I want to stop taking it. Can I just stop it without ant problems. I'm taking a capsule so I can't cut it in half. ## After such a short period of time, you usually can, but it would be best to check with your doctor, to be safe. If you are prone to seizures, there is a risk of your experiencing them, according to FDA reports. However, you should be aware that these side effects will usually pass, once your body gets used to the medication, which generally takes about 5 to 6 weeks. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change?

Is there a 100mg tablet of gabapentin? I have heard there is but have only been told or heard of 300mg or 600mg. Can you confirm this for me please? ## Yes, there is a 100 dose, it's what I started on about 12 years ago. Mine was in capsule form. ## Donna is correct. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and weight gain. Is there anything else we can help with?

need to see pictures of pill ## I'm sorry, but due to copyright reasons, I don't have any pictures to post for you. In addition, since this is a generic, there are quite a few on the market, manufactured by different companies and they will all have different markings to denote the manufacturer and dosage. Just to give you some examples, here are the markings and descriptions of a few of the 100mg Gabapentin products: A white capsule, with the marking G 5026. An orange and white capsule, with the marking R 665 on each half. A white capsule with the marking APO 112. A gray capsule with West-ward 991. A white and clear capsule with E 91 on each half. And there are more.... Are there any markings on the pill in question?

I take Gabapentin 3x a day (AM-NOON PM) for extremely severe pain from spinal stenosis. The pain travels down my legs. Difficulty in walking My question is: What is the most Gabapentin I can take of this medicine without severe side effects? ## Hello, Harriet! How are you? I am very sorry that you're in pain. The important thing you need to know is that Gabapentin is not an actual analgesic, so it will not work like one to treat your pain and help with it, when you're having a day that's worse than usual. This is an anticonvulsant, it can help with some forms of nerve pain due to the affect it has on brain chemicals, but in order to help, it must be taken for about 4 to 6 weeks in a consistent dosing. You will not get more relief by taking extra on any given day, so please d...

For four years, I've taken 100mg of Gabapentin (one capsule) along with 0.50mg of Ropinirole (two pills) at night only for Restless Leg Syndrome. I am 76 years old. There were times when I felt that I really could, maybe even should have increased, as directed but I just hate taking any kind of medicines and finally, it felt more ok enough to not increase. So, I did not. Now, I would like to get off of all of it but since the Gabapentin is one capsule, how I can taper off from that one? I can go down slowly on the Ropinirole by taking only one tablet each night as each one is .25mg but I do not know how I can cut the Gabapentin capsule with the powder medicine inside in half. Any suggestions or anyone else have a similar question? ## In many cases, doctor's will instruct the pat...

Don't know what to do. Been dealing with this for over 20 years. Any advice? ## Hello, Lori! How are you? What symptoms do you experience that you describe as feeling strange? Today is day 7 of 1 pill daily, only 100mg. Second attempt trying this drug, don't like it. Can I simply stop? ## Hello, Suzi! How are you? What types of problems are you having with it? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings and weight changes. After 7 days on such a low dose, you can most likely just stop it, but it would be best to check with your doctor, because stopping abruptly could create the risk of seizures. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you for your reply; i can do it over a few days. To answer your question, just feel kinda "strange" at times, you know? Then again, hate to give up too early. All the negative reviews are scary to me.

Is there a big difference between the 100 mg and 300 mg pills? I’m currently taking 2 100 mg pills 3 xs a day (600 mg total) for a forearm injury but don’t know hos much a difference it makes between these 2 pills. If you have started at the same dose please respond if taking a stronger pill than what I am doing. ## Other than the notable difference in milligrams (potency), each pill is also going to come with a different set of inactive ingredients, otherwise known as binders and fillers. To my understanding, these seemingly inert substances can actually affect bioavailability and even cause some concern for individuals who may be hypersensitive to certain chemicals. Now I'm not saying that your experience will be anything like this, but I do feel that binders and fille...

I have COPD and taking gabapentin will it affect I my breathing I'm using it for muscle spasm in my leg ## Hello, Ron! How are you? In theory, it shouldn't, but there's never anyway to know how any specific medication will affect any given person that tries it. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, weight gain and anxiety. Did your doctor prescribe it for you?

Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

I'd like to discuss with someone about the proper dosage of this medication. Can anyone help? ## There is really no set dosage for this, though you do need to start at a low dosage and gradually add more until you find the amount that works effectively for you. Most doctors will start with 100mgs taken 2 to 3 times a day, then go up to 300 and continue adding until they find what works for each patient. It would take a tremendous amount to OD on this, which is why so many doctors like to use it, they can take the dosage very high, without danger and it has very few side effects. Your best bet then, is to take your doctors advice on what you should be taking and how often. ## I just started gabapentin. My doctor told me to take 300 mg before bedtime for the first week and then move u...

I take 100mg each night to allow myself a nights sleep without my mind racing through thoughts. My neurologist said the only side affect is sleep. Was I too trusting. ## Hello, Barbara! How are you? All medications carry the risk of causing side effects and yes, it can cause for more than just drowsiness. The FDA lists the other possible ones for this medication as including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings and weight gain. I'm on medicaid and my Dr. Has like a bajillion patients and I can never get a hold of him. II'm always on hold for 30 minutes so I figured I'd ask here. I'm also taking 10/325 norco and 20 mg of prednisone ## Hello, Jes! How are you? I think you may be misunderstanding, this isn't actually an analgesic. Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant that has been found to help with certain types of nerve pain, due to the way it acts on brain chemicals. So, it's not going to work in just 2 days, it will take about a month, before you know whether or not it is going to help you at the current ...

I have a method on weaning off from 1,200 mg a day to 100 mg total (talking to the doctor when it’s time to take 2 xs a day instead of 3 xs). ## I’m well aware that there are multiple phases during withdrawals. The first phase took 10 days for Gabapentin to equalize in my body. A week afterwards I had 2 days of Hot night sweats but was done with withdrawals after that. (At least until I lower my dose). My prescription was from two years ago. Now I have the same nerve pain in my upper arm and I have some 100 mg capsules left over. Do not want to see doctor for the same thing. Can I take the capsules now? ## Update: I am having good results from the Gabapentin. ## Hello, Shirley! How are you? I'm glad to see that the medication is working for you. Dry product medications, such as tablets, or capsules with powder, do not go bad once expired, but they may lose some efficacy with time. Thus, it is best to be careful, and if it doesn't work as well as it should, consulting your doctor for a fresh prescription would be the best option.
