Eliquis Stomach Pain

Have been taking Eliquis 5 mg 2x day for almost 3 months. Seem to be having Stomach Pain, Abdominal Swelling, Bloating, Gas, Facial Swelling and lots of weight gain and water retention. Also brain fog and memory problems. (It's hard to tell how much of this is from Eliquis and how much from CHF associated with A-Fib. Also taking Beta Blocker and Digoxin.) Eliquis has been out long enough for the pharmaceutical company (BMS) to put out a REVISED list of side-effects, to reflect real-life patients' experiences. Wonder if they have done so, or when they'll do so? Am probably going to switch to Xarelto and stop the Eliquis, in hopes that the Xarelto will cause fewer problems. ## You might want to rethink that decison, Afibber. have used this here in the u.k for 4 months as I was diagnosed with a.f. 5mgs x2 per day. Wish I had never been given them. So far strange pain in the top of head. stomach cramps. blood in urine. pain in back passage cant sleep more than 3 hours per night. affecting spinal stenosis and arthritis. I am on Eliquis 5 mg. per day, and Diltiazem 240 mg. ER. Have insomnia, dizziness, loss of balance, weak legs, itching especially of scalp and face, frequent urination, swelling in ankle and foot, and small appetite. I am in my 80's. I'd like to know if others have any of the same symptoms? ## Yes, those are possible side effects of one, or both of these medications. I have been on Eliquis since 2016. I was first on 5M twice a day after suffering a small stroke. I had bleeding behind my right eye and blood in my urine. I was then put on 2.5 twice a day. Still get nosebleeds. I have gained 20lbs am extremely tired all the time and feel like the life is drained out of me. Starting in July I have had stomach problems and the gastroenterologist put me on a low food map diet. After two weeks I re-introduced dairy. I had ice cream and had extreme diarrhea, vomiting and stomach pain. It seems I am now lactose intolerant. ## Lactose is an ingredient in Eliquis. ## You need to taper off it and/or take another blood thinner. I'm on week 4 of Eliquis for DVT. Over the past 2 weeks I notice when I get up in the morning I am stiff in the joints, legs hurt. I get dizzy to where I see black. I have had 2 migraines and lost balance on numerous occasions. And I fall asleep at the drop of a hat. Is this related to Eliquis? ## Hello, Karen! How are you doing? Yes, the FDA does list those as being possible side effects of this medication and you are not the first person to post about experiencing them. You may also experience easy bruising and stomach pain. Given the loss of balance and severe dizziness, it would be best to speak to your doctor as you may need to try a different medication. After a single AFib event, I was put on Eliquis. I almost immediately developed severe shoulder pain in both shoulders, so doctor changed to Xarelto. Same problem. I am not currently taking a blood thinner, only a daily aspirin, because of the side effects. One shoulder returned to normal, but the other one continues to hurt. Had never had any problem with shoulder pain before taking these medications. ## Is Aspirin the only medication you are currently taking? The FDA warns that it may cause side effects, such as nausea, increased risk of bleeding, stomach irritation, and headache. ## Yes, the only blood thinner. Take a baby aspirin.

I have taken elequis for over 2 years now. I have Afib. This month my Dr added another drug - a ppi to my prescription to combat any future stomach problems caused by elequis! I take beta blockers too! I have so many side effects from elequis - tiredness, aching joints - knees, toes and shoulder joints. Difficulty sleeping due to shoulder and knee pain. How do I get off this drug - or at least reduce it from 5mg x 2 a day to 2.5 mg. x 2 a day? I would really prefer to just take aspirin but don’t know if it is effective? ## The beta blockers can cause similar side effects, so it's difficult to determine which one might be causing your symptoms.
